Hi folks, Well, I've been out of circulation for a bit now, and finally am at a point where I am beginning to catch up, so I thought I'd post to the list with a few items. For your information, there are currently 260 total subscribers. For such a large number, we sure are quiet! The first item I'd like to post is about a roll call. Now, I know many of you have strong opinions on the subject, but as this list is a relativly quiet one, I have decided that I would like to call for a Barton roll call. This helps me, as a list admin, to know where most of our research lies. That way when someone contacts me about whether there are any researchers for "x-barton in x place" I can answer truthfully rather than just saying "well, why don't you join and see" (which, of course, I do anyway :) ) Also, it helps those who haven't "made the connection" to make one if there are others on the same line. In order to be fair though to those who prefer not to read "roll call" messages, I ask that when you post you put "RC:" or "Roll Call:" in the subject line along with the states/countries of your Bartons. Those who aren't interested in the posts can delete them or can only read those with like states/countries. For example, my roll call entry will have the subject line of "RC: Bartons from US:RI>OH>VA>WV>OH" that way, anyone who is interested in Ohio, Rhode Island, Virginia or West Virginia Bartons can take a look at my email by just seeing in the subject that there might be a connection. Second order of business is about the list rules. I will be sending (after this message) my standard "rule list" and hope everyone will read it. It is not a lot, but helps the list to run more smoothly. Any questions or problems with the list rules, please address me privately and not on the list. Thanks! Third, about the list website. I know, I know, it hasn't been updated in so long, but that is about to change... So, if anyone has additions to the links list, to the queries, or to the information contained on the page, please let me know as soon as possible so that I can get it changed. The site address is http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cbrogan/barton.html Oh, and btw, if you get a "runtime" error when accessing the site, just ignore it as that is one of the issues I'm currently working on. I am considering adding a java based chat room on a separate page for those interested. If this is something you (as a researcher) would like, let me know and I'll see what I can do. Meanwhile, thanks to all of you for making this such a great (abeit quiet) list! Hi, I am new to the Barton list, and was very impressed by the homepage. I am submitting my one known Barton ancestor here in case anyone out there "connects!" I am looking for ancestors or siblings of Mary BARTON, b. before 1805. She married Frederick SMITH before 1823, probably Staffordshire, Eng. They had a daughter, Eliza SMITH in 1823, and immigrated to either Allegheny Co., PA, or the Wheeling, VA (now WV) area, about 1825. Thanks, Betty Coldren

If in questions, please address the listowner at brogan@idworld.net Dear Melanie, I noted your Bedford Co, PA visit with interest as that is where my Barbara Kepler was born and she m. a Michael Barton. She was b. 21 Sept 1797 in Woodberry Twp., Bedford Co., PA, d. 27 Oct 1881 Mercer Co, OH. She was a d/o John Kepler and Helena de Avarie. She and Michael Barton were m. 27 Feb 1817 in Knox Co., OH, and that is where their 10 ch. were b. I inherited her Bible in which she recorded her date and place of birth and that of their 10 ch. Should you have found any connections to this Barton line, I surely would appreciate hearing from you. I have never found Michael's ancestry. Betty Pond Snyder Bettysnyder@prodigy.net
Of the four Molly's listed the one the d/o Timothy would have beern 25 when she married James Livermore. The other Molly m. Reuben Park in 1768 and 1756 was too young the Molly born 1762 was was only 15 in 1781. If you think the first Molly 1756 could be her, then we can follow Timothy ancestry all the way back I think. Because Timothy m. Stowe in 1753 the Timothy born 1732 but there are an awful lot of Timothy's. He was the son of Joshua Barton & Ann Barton m. 1719 does give any other maiden name. Then it goes back??? to Joshua born 1697 to Samuel & Hannah., This then gets into my line the Oxford Bartons. I have a whole booklet on this. I will check on this and see what I can come up with. You do not have names for her brothers.? I found them in the Oxford Bartons. Timothy & Stowe had Mary b. at Hopkinton 28 Dec 1756. If you think this is it. Can copy the whole booklet for you $1.68 tx and all of the Mass IGI Bartons (53 x8 all of this totals $5.92 plus postage and it big enough to stuff in the Priority Mail for $3.00 This buy the way is Clara Barton's line. But any other info you might have that I could check first let me know.
