My Barton progenitor was JOHN BARTON. He was born ca. 1756 in Co. Down, Ireland, married MARY KYLE 4 Dec. 1784 in Belfast, Co. Antrim, died 22 Feb. 1838, buried in Cross Roads Presbyterian Church Cemetery near Florence, Washington Co. Mary was born probably between 1755 and 1765 in Carnmoney, Co. Antrim, a daughter of Bryce Kyle. She died 1816-1820. John and Mary and their 3 eldest sons emigrated in 1794 and initially settled near Canonsburg, Washington Co., PA. Shortly after 1810 they removed to Smith Twp., Washington Co., settling on Raccoon Creek. They were Associate (Seceder) Presbyterians. They joined the Cross Roads Presbyterian Church near Florence. Their children were: JAMES BARTON born 21 Feb. 1785, married SARAH [-?-] before 1810, died 16 Mar. 1881 in Franklin Twp., Jackson Co., OH. HUGH BARTON born in 1788, married MARY ANN BRIMNER in Washington Co., PA, died in Aug. 1864 in Findlay Twp., Allegheny Co., PA. GEORGE BARTON born in 1792, married AGNES FERGUSON, died in July 1835 in Hanover Twp., Washington Co., PA. JANE BARTON born in 1794, married JOSEPH WHAN 13 Oct. 1819 in Washington Co., PA, died 18 Jan. 1886 in Cold Springs (now Ormas), Noble Co., IN. ARCHIBALD BARTON born 14 Mar. 1797 in Washington Co., married (1) SARAH KELLY 12 Oct. 1821 in Jefferson Co., OH, married (2) Mrs. MARY G. WILDER 17 Mar. 1870 in Holmes Co., OH, died in Nov. 1877. JOHN BARTON , Jr., born ca. 1799 in Washington Co., presumably died before 1881. ROBERT BARTON born 20 Sept. 1801 in Smith Twp., Washington Co., married REBECCA WALLACE 14 Dec. 1826 in Cross Creek Twp., Washington Co., died 12 June 1883 in Cumberland, Spencer Twp., Guernsey Co., OH [my ancestor]. MARY BARTON born 14 Oct. 1803 in Smith Twp., married DAVID INGRAM, died 1882-1884 in Hancock Co., WV. I would be happy to correspond with descendants of any of the above children and particularly with anyone knowledgeable of John & Mary (Kyle) Barton's ancestors. John had two brothers (one named Hugh) who both died young. He also had two sisters (one named Mattie). They never emigrated. Tim, My great grandfather JESSE DANIEL BARTON had a brother named GEORGE W. BARTON b. Feb. 1834 prob. New York County. My records show he married Esther (could it have been Elisabeth?) 1858 prob. I believe one of my Bartons might be their child, but have yet to prove the relationship. The child is Jeremiah BARTON who m. Marie Anna GRANT in Charlotte, VT. They had a son, John Waterman BARTON, b. 1805 Charlotte. Any leads are appreciated, thanks. Annie

Dorothy, hello! Thanks for your generosity! Have sent out word to many places looking for information about the Molly Barton who married my ancestor James Livermore.....I wonder if that Livermore Family book might not say something about her.....your message just came, yes, the 1756 date is the one Paul Barton gave me for Molly, the other date i was using was from a site where they could not tell me where the info came from....so the cd is sayin that the Molly who married my James was daughter of Timothy and Hephzibah, then? Hi list I have been following the list for sometime but have not really posted anything so far. I read with interest all the US subscribers searching for their roots whereas my interest is in the Barton families of Fermanagh in Ireland. Has anyone traced their roots to Fermanagh? The main Barton line I have is the family that lived at Clonelly, near Kesh. This was a large estate and only one of many owned by the Bartons over all of Ireland. Some estate records have been handed down through my family and I have posted names of tenants on my site at http://janhart.webhostme.com/tenants.htm I have entered most of the Barton information from Burke's Irish Family Records in to a FamilyTreeMaker file and would be willing to contribute the gedcom to the list, if it is appropriate. Hi Christi: My Barton progenitor was JOHN BARTON. Have you tried checking into "Henry" instead of "Harry". This happened twice in my family and even though Harry was the son of Henry, both were called Harry. Lea Barton
Dear Christy, I have been on this line now for 10 mos and I want you to know that I think you are doing a really great job. I am a distant cousin of yours. My Barton line falls through Richard Barton who was William Bartons older half brother. Richard was the son of Benjamin and his first wife Mary Hale. This list has been really helpful for getting names and dates for the early part of my family and I wanted to let you know that. Thanks for every thing and keep up the good work. Lea Barton
