Hello, I have only my Molly Barton who married James Livermore in Spencer, MA in 1781....it is written in the Livermore Family HIstory Book that she died in 1842 and the age of 80, which would make her birth year 1762....does anyone else claim this Molly? Sure would like to trace this Barton line back! Regards, Victoria Tester

Hi Mark, I saw your posting and had to respond. George and Leah were my GGG Grandparents. George was born about 1826 and died of wounds received in the civil was in May of 1864. Apparently he was a prisoner in a union hospital at the time. I got the above information from a land grant application that Leah made in 1898. She married a Levi Spikes after George"s death. She is buried in Brown Cemetery in Winnfield La. Any information about my family is available on our web site: www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/Delta/1976 Please visit it and also let me know your interest in this family. I have traced my mother's father side of the family from Edwin M. Barton born in Franklin co. ?Westville, Ny to David W. Barton and his father was Jerome Barton. Per the census records Jerome was born in VT. I have found him listed in the 1840 census in in either NewHaven or Ferrisburg Addison Co. Vt., he would have been about 20 at that time, but do not know who his parents were. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank Maxine
Ginny, The only BARTON in my lineage that I have information on is Mary Catherine BARTON. I assume she was born after 1842 since this is the birthdate of her first husband, John Vincent WILKEY son of Samuel WILKEY and Sara FRANKLIN. I also assume she was probally born in Jefferson Co., Alabama. Mary BARTON and John Vincent WILKEY married on Aug. 21 1860 in Jefferson Co., Alabama. They had one child, Isham Wilkey b 1861 d 1928 in Jefferson Co., AL. Isham married Julia Humber in 1880 in Jefferson Co., AL. John Vincent died during the Civil War, it is unknown which side he fought for. Their son, Isham had eight children, all born in Jefferson Co., AL. Mary Catherine (nee BARTON) WILKEY married John Calvin BEARDEN on June 25, 1865 in Jefferson Co., Alabama. They had eight children; George Mathew b 1866, Alfred & Albert (twins) b 1868, James Thomas b 1876, Charlie L. b 1879, Andrew (Andy) b 1881, Willy b 1885 died age 5, and Mamie M. b 1902 died age 1. All these children were born in Jefferson Co., AL They too, married and raised their children in Jefferson Co., AL. This is all the information I have on my great great grandmother, most of the information regarding her came from a family Bible which did not list Mary's birth or death date nor did it mention who her parents were. It did mention that John Calvin called her 'Cathy'. Do you have any clues as to what BARTON family my Mary belongs to? Emily (nee BEARDEN) SEARS
Hi, I hope that people that have BARTON roots in Jefferson Co., AL would add to the list their family that they are searching. So many of them came to MS. I think that we are all related and can help each other. Roll Calls are of no help when they just put the name that they are looking for and no time frame or location. I think that this is the lost family that is mentioned. Alabama is not mentioned much on any BARTON WEB. Ginny
Am seeking desc of Wilson D. & Madora J. BARTON FIELD. They were married in Cook Co, Ill. Believe he was a jeweler in Chicago. 1860's Dorothy Scott Muirhead@inebraska.com

Dear List Members: I frequently see information about Willis Barton who I think was born in Georgia or Alabama. I am also looking for a Willis Barton, but a different one: Willis Barton born June 23, 1820 in Bedford County, VA. He was the son of James and Susan (Martin) Barton who married July 23, 1819 in Franklin County, VA. Siblings of Willis Barton were: Elizabeth who married Adam Mann, Jr.; Andrew who married Jane Abbott; Joel B. who married Mary J. Noble; James, Jr., who married 1) Sarah Ann Mann and 2) Florence Wyatt; and Eliza who married Littleberry W. Noble. Willis Barton married (1) Rachel Neely ( dau. of John and Delilah Swinney) about 1842 as their first child was born in 1843. Willis and Rachel had three children, James F., Mary Susan and Rachel. Rachel died Feb. 22, 1886 and Willis married (2) Angelina Via (I do not know if this was her maiden or married name, probably the latter). Willis died Mar. 5, 1903. I would like to know: No. l . Where did Willis Barton and Rachel Neely marry and the date. No. 2. Where is Willis Barton buried? Thank you very much for reading my message and any help you can give me. Sue Barton Oden Williamson County, Tennessee
Edwin H. BARTON, Thomas J. LAWTON, and Martin Luther BARNETT all arrived in Piqua, Ohio in the early 1840s. They all came from New York. All three were business men who worked the Canal trade. BARTON open a grocery store of imports while LAWTON & BARNETT formed a partnership of exports of farm products. They owned and operated Canal boats. Of the three, I have only found records of BARTON operating a Canal business in Canastota, Madison County, New York in the 1830s. BARNETT was born in Brookport, Monroe County, New York, another Erie Canal town. LAWTON was born in Canada just across from Jefferson County, New York where he was raised. I have no birth place except New York for BARTON. There common connection is that all married women in the CROCKER family from Cazenovia, Madison County, New York. These three women are probably sisters. Angenett CROCKER married Edwin H. BARTON, Angeline E. CROCKER married Thomas J. LAWTON, and Sarah Elizabeth CROCKER married Martin Luther BARNETT. Im looking for the CROCKER father of these three woman; and any BARTON family business that could be connected to the Erie Canal 1825 to 1870. Any clues or connections are appreciated thanks, gary -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gary Barton gbarton@pacbell.net "Its never too late to have a happy childhood." Tom Robbins
Hello Leon, I saw in your post that you have an internet address for a site that lists the "Descendants of Edward Barton". Could you possibly give me that address. I am just beginning my research. but my mother tells me that a distant relative has a "place on the internet" Mom didn't bother to write it down. I guess she thinks one search and BAM that's the only site that will come up. hahaha. Anyway, my fathers name is Jesse Robinson Barton. He had 2 brothers: James and Joseph Barton. His fathers name was Joseph Carl and mothers maiden name was Saloma Vulner. After Joseph Carl's death, Saloma married Joseph's half-brother, Henry Allen Barton. I'm sorry I don't have the dates as of yet but dad's memory is a tad sketchy. As soon as I have dates documented I will share them. My Barton progenitor was JOHN BARTON. He was born ca. 1756 in Co. Down, Ireland, married MARY KYLE 4 Dec. 1784 in Belfast, Co. Antrim, died 22 Feb. 1838, buried in Cross Roads Presbyterian Church Cemetery near Florence, Washington Co. Mary was born probably between 1755 and 1765 in Carnmoney, Co. Antrim, a daughter of Bryce Kyle. She died 1816-1820. John and Mary and their 3 eldest sons emigrated in 1794 and initially settled near Canonsburg, Washington Co., PA. Shortly after 1810 they removed to Smith Twp., Washington Co., settling on Raccoon Creek. They were Associate (Seceder) Presbyterians. They joined the Cross Roads Presbyterian Church near Florence. Their children were: JAMES BARTON born 21 Feb. 1785, married SARAH [-?-] before 1810, died 16 Mar. 1881 in Franklin Twp., Jackson Co., OH. HUGH BARTON born in 1788, married MARY ANN BRIMNER in Washington Co., PA, died in Aug. 1864 in Findlay Twp., Allegheny Co., PA. GEORGE BARTON born in 1792, married AGNES FERGUSON, died in July 1835 in Hanover Twp., Washington Co., PA. JANE BARTON born in 1794, married JOSEPH WHAN 13 Oct. 1819 in Washington Co., PA, died 18 Jan. 1886 in Cold Springs (now Ormas), Noble Co., IN. ARCHIBALD BARTON born 14 Mar. 1797 in Washington Co., married (1) SARAH KELLY 12 Oct. 1821 in Jefferson Co., OH, married (2) Mrs. MARY G. WILDER 17 Mar. 1870 in Holmes Co., OH, died in Nov. 1877. JOHN BARTON , Jr., born ca. 1799 in Washington Co., presumably died before 1881. ROBERT BARTON born 20 Sept. 1801 in Smith Twp., Washington Co., married REBECCA WALLACE 14 Dec. 1826 in Cross Creek Twp., Washington Co., died 12 June 1883 in Cumberland, Spencer Twp., Guernsey Co., OH [my ancestor]. MARY BARTON born 14 Oct. 1803 in Smith Twp., married DAVID INGRAM, died 1882-1884 in Hancock Co., WV. I would be happy to correspond with descendants of any of the above children and particularly with anyone knowledgeable of John & Mary (Kyle) Barton's ancestors. John had two brothers (one named Hugh) who both died young. He also had two sisters (one named Mattie). They never emigrated.
