-------- Original Message -------- Subject: Caleb Barton Date: Sun, 02 Jan 2000 08:44:54 -0600 From: Dorothy <muirhead@inebraska.com> To: bartnash@swbell.net I have the NY IGI sheets for Bartons, no Pauline listed. Were they marriedin NY? I will go thru and see what other children they might have had. There are about four marriages and three births listed for a Caleb but not for the female you mentioned. Have you tried www.familysearch.com??? This could be more up to date perhaps than my list. Dorothy Scott Muirhead@inebraska.com

Ron, Virus warnings are not permitted on the mailing list. In addition, this is a hoax, not an actual virus. More information on this hoax and others can be found at this site: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/aoly2k-hoax.html Again, virus warnings are not permitted on the list (see your welcome letter) and can cause your removal from the list. Hi Folks, While I don't normally send out virus warnings and DO thoroughly check them out before saying anything, this one almost got me this weekend and has been received 10 times again since. Before I continue, let me tell you two things to reassure you. #1: Rootsweb lists are incapable of sending or receiving attachments and/or HTML mail, so you will not get this worm from a Rootsweb list. #2: Please note that as far as we currently know this worm only affects those using Outlook Express and Netscape Mail as their email programs, but it is a clever worm that is constantly morphing so please be aware. Now, several of you may have received mail that LOOKS like it is from a Rootsweb list that is carrying the virus, but the important thing here is that this worm is capable of "forging" it's to AND from lines so that while it is not actually coming from a Rootsweb list, it looks like it is. Rootsweb has posted information on this particular worm here: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/virus1.html that explains the "forging" and Symantec (the makers of Norton Antivirus) has information about the worm and how to remove it as well at http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/worm.newapt.html Basically the best rule of thumb is NEVER open an attachment you know nothing about and if in doubt, email the "sender" to make sure that they are actually trying to send you something. ALWAYS update your virus software (i.e.. once a week is best) and ALWAYS scan any files before opening. Below is the post that was sent on to us on the listowners list by MessageMates.com. Thanks Carole for the info! I received this week the Muster Roll record for Robinson W. BARTON from the NY State Archives. It lists the enlistment date as August 11, 1862 at Owego and mustered in on August 12, 1862 at age 18. There seems to be a second enlistment date and muster in date at age 19. (not sure what that means) and muster out date of June 4, 1865 with "Co. at Delaney House, D.C." The Remarks section says "Absent missing since the battle of Petersburg, VA. July 30, '64 as Robinson W. MR-Oct-64 Promoted to Corpl February 10, '65: M-OR." There are also several notations such as M-1R and M-OR+MR-Oct-64 and " Apr 18, 63 and M-OR in the margins. I have no idea what these may mean and no idea where I could find out! Any ideas????
I recieved your inqury about Barton, but I am looking into the Burton Family. Good Luck!!
I'm placing this request on behalf of an older Briggs cousin who has been trying (for over 15 years!) to find any info. about Elizabeth Barton. She was married to Alpheus Briggs. Alpheus b.1773, NY; d. 1855, Eastchester, NY; son of George Briggs; g.son Walter Briggs. Alpheus and Elizabeth had at least one child, George, b. 1823 in NY. Elizabeth possibly b. abt. 1781 (place unknown) and, if birthdate is right, she was abt. 42 yrs. old when son George was born. (Was she a Barton widow or a Barton by birth?) Also, according to St. Paul's Cemetery records, Eastchester, NY, Elizabeth d. aft. 02-01-1841 and bef. 07-09-1844. Any possible sources, info. or leads appreciated. Thanks!
I have been researching my BARTON line. I am at a brick wall with Enoch BARTON b: 1819 in Edgefield County, SC. The family story is that he ran away from home at a very early age because he could not get along with his step mother. In the late 1830's he was in Chambers County, AL. and he had himself declared an orphan so he could marry. He married Rebecca MEACHAM/MITCHUM 1837 in Chamber County, AL. He was still in Chambers County, AL. in the 1840 but had moved to Rock Mills, Randolph County, AL by the 1850's. He lived in this area until his death. I was going through some notes that a cousin's wife has sent me (my cousin is now deceased). In the notes there is a notation that reads: BARTON, Joseph Dec'd -- Sold -- 1833 Edgefield Rec. Bk. A-296 Distributees: John P. Cullum purchased 2 shares of Isaac BARTON William WILLIAMS - $98.28 Bailey CHANEY - w- Sarah Enoch BARTON minor Wm. WILLIAMS Gdn. 1/2 39.m Bethany BARTON minor Wm. WILLIAMS Gdn. Mahala BARTON Joshua BARTON Isaac BARTON Solomon DAVIS This is the only reference I have ever found on Enoch BARTON in SC. Do these names ring a bell with anyone?? I have a lot of information on Enoch BARTON and his descendants would love to share with anyone also researching this line. If anyone has any information on the above names please contact me. Best Regards, Belinda savadge@alltel.net http://www.genealogybin.com/
