I have a Nelson Barton , born abt 1825, KY. He married a Nancy Bishop in 1845. Nelson lived in Whitley county-he is listed with his wife in the 1850 census. Problem is he died in 1851 and i cant find the family after that. I am trying to find out 1) if the family went to live with relatives or Nancy Bishop Barton remarried, and 2) whether or not Nelson could be the son of William (Will) Barton of Knox or Whitley County, KY. I have the 1820 census for Knox co for a William (Will) Barton, for both a Sr and Jr. Could someone who has access please lookup for me the 1830, 40, 50 and 60 for Knox county. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Bonni

Rev Thomas Barton,in his 1780 will, mentions lands in Ky surveyed for him in 1763 by [by 1780 Brig Gen] Wm Thompson. A bio of the latter places him at Carlisle and FT PITT early. Gen Wm Thompson fought in the British forces in the French and Indian war,as did Thomas Barton. Gen WM Thompson seems an Indian trader at Ft Pitt,at times. Did he minister at York Springs? Does anyone know of a biography mentioning his pre 1776 years in detail?

    2. Christie, Thanks so much for all the Barton information. A tip for any one who gets great info like what Christie gives us, I usually copy and paste all messages into my word processor and then go back to the file when I have time I read everything. I usually list the file as "Barton E-mails 1/17/00". You can have folders from each family name you are working on and save these to floppies so you will have records to go back to. You never know when you will find that elusive relative. It also helps clean up your mail boxes. I just received a 1500 name typed file from a relative on my Barton and Morris family and am still trying to absorbe everything, so I can't afford to miss one little link. Hope this helps you stay organized. Cheryl Va Beach, VA Family Home Page: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clginvb ================================================== Free Web space. 3. I have been touch by email with a library in Surrey, England, asking about Barton-in-the-Beans. They forwarded my email to the Surrey History Service, and they said Barton-in-the-Beans is Leicestershire, and there has never been a place by that name in Surrey. Apparently our records are incorrect. Anyone searching for John Barton can now search in Leicestershire. Shirley

    3. Hi Doug, I have a Martha N. Barton in my line who was in Woodville Indian Territory 1871 & Woodville was just over the border not to far from Denison Texas. In 10-13-1871 she married my great grandfather Robert Simon Bell & they had three children. One son was named Joseph Bell. Do you have these names in your line? I am only asking because of what you mentioned in your email. I have been trying to find information on Martha N. Barton for a whole year & so far no leads. Well, lets say, you can find Barton's everywhere coming in from all parts of the country & because I am dealing with Oklahoma means few records to check. So, you have to ask a lot of dumb questions such as the one I am asking you:) Thank you for any help you can give. 3. Hello Shirley, Barton in the Beans is such an unusual name that I cannot imagine that it occurs/occurred twice in totally different locations of England. However, if what your cousin's friend says is true then that suggests a connection between the two places. It might be helpful to establish the origin of the name I guess.
