    3. Hello Cheryl, There is a small group of us who are researching our ancestors in New York. For the most part they were born in Westchester, lived in New York County and migrated to Sullivan County. My gr grandfather JESSE DANIEL BARTON was born 1843 in Sullivan Co. removed for a short while to Vineland, Cumberland Co., N.J. then brought his family to Oceana Co., Michigan. He was the son of WILLIAM and ELINOR JANE GALWAY. We are watching other names that seem to follow much the same pattern but have not connected them yet. They are my gr gr grandparents WILLIAM b. 1801, m ELINOR JANE GALWAY b. 1806 Dutchess Co..: and also--- HENRY b. 1810, m SARAH/SALLY BATES, their sons James and JOHN HENRY. J.H. removed to Vineland, N.J. about the same time as Jesse Daniel; JOSHUA b. abt. 1793 in New York m. Sarah Weisemer; DANIEL H. b. 1807 m. Nancy. d. after 23 Dec 1892: JESSE b abt 1790 New York m. Jane who was b. Westchester Co. There is a WILLIAM/WILLET T. BARTON b. abt. 1820 n Westchester, N.Y. m. Phebe J. and a JOHN BARTON There were a lot of Bartons born in Westchester about the same time and many of them stayed in New York and a few went to Pennsylvania. Many of those posting on the BARTON-List are from the Southern States. You are most welcome to join our small group researching in New York and share what we know so far. Did they also have a son named Aquilla--none is listed below in the original message? Could they be the Aquilla (b. abt 1752 in Virginia) and Elizabeth (ELLIS) Barton (b. abt 1777 in Virginia)? Since Caswell County, NC borders on Virginia, it is plausible that this Aquilla and Elizabeth could have lived there. However, I doubt if this Aquilla was part of the Lewis Barton clan, documented in the book Baltimore County Families, 1659-1759, that migrated from Baltimore County, MD to Caswell County, NC in the late 1700s since there is no reference to an Aquilla in the book. I say all that to say this. My family has an Aquilla (b. before 1790, d. ?, m. 10 Feb 1813) and Elizabeth (KENNEBREW) Barton (b. before 1800, d. ?) also associated with Caswell County, NC. However, we have no indication that they ever lived in Tennessee. They had a son also named Aquilla (b. 10 Jan 1815, m. 20 Jan 1842, d. 29 Dec. 1897) who married Sarah "Sallie" (Henslee) Barton (b. 15 Oct 1818, d. 15 Dec 1897) in Caswell County, NC. Aquilla and Sarah Barton came to the Missouri Ozarks in the late 1840s and are both buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Webster County, MO. The senior Aquilla Barton's name is listed on a commemorative stone at the small Compton Family Cemetery in Webster County, MO. (The Comptons were also from Caswell County, NC). We have assumed that the senior Aquilla and Elizabeth came to the Missouri Ozarks in the late 1840s with the younger Aquilla and Sarah Barton, but we have no hard evidence. Neither are they listed in the 1850 Webster County, MO census which also leaves a question mark. Thanks for any input that would help resolve my questions/concerns re. the two Aquilla and Elizabeth Barton families. Jerry L. 3. Frances Neikirk, I have some "stretches" for you that may be so thin they are nearly transparent, but let's see. My grandfather James O. Barton, had a brother named John. We know nothing of this John except he probably was born in 1863 and probably in Jackson County, Ohio. My grandfather was born in Jackson County, Ohio in 1861. These brothers had an uncle named Richard, who as far as we can tell, remained in Beaver County, Pa.. The father of these brothers came from Beaver County, Pa. through Jackson County, Ohio to Vigo County, In and Clark County, Illinois. My grandfather moved on up to Tazewell County, Illinois. I said it's pretty thin!! I'd like to find out something about my great uncle. Any thoughts?? 3. I am descended from Barton's and Pulley's also. I have the following information on them. Samuel Barton was born in January, 1749. He married Martha Robertson about 1778. They had a child named Stephen Barton who was born November 19, 1781. Stephen Barton and Eleanor (Nellie) Baird had a child called William Barton who was born about 1810. William Barton and Margaret Lain had a child named Martha Ann Barton who was born May 18, 1840. Martha Ann Barton married William Franklin Pulley approximately 1857. William Franklin Pulley was the child of William Pulley and Sarah Bragg. They had a child whose name was William Robert Pulley who was born April 17, 1858. William Robert Pulley married Martha Ann Cornett and they had a child named Annie Bell Pulley who was born April 7, 1886. Annie Bell Pulley married Joe Carroll Preston in about 1912. They had a child names Mattie Ruth Preston is my mother. This is just the basic information. I also have picture from Tennesse of the Bartons and Pulleys. Included in these pictures is Martha Ann Barton and her husband and their children. Let me know if this looks like a match to any of your research. Paul Monschke

She was the daughter of James Edward Barton and Jane Shields married May 20, 1837 Clark Co. Illinois. James Edward was born 1824 Pendleton County KY. although I believe this date to be wrong because he would have been only 13 when he married. He was the son of John Barton and Mary Polly Earles married May 9 1816 Pendleton County Ky. John was born in Virginia. I don't know if he came to KY as a child with his family or if he went there after he was grown. John's brothers were William, David, Stephen, Taylor and Rosewell. I don't know what happened to these brothers but it could be that one or more of them went to Pendleton Co. KY also and stayed there while John and Mary went on to Illinois. Could your Elizabeth Jane be a branch of this same tree? I am more than happy to share what I have with you and would like to know more about yours. Let me know what you think. Sandy

    3. Looking for more on Eliza Jane BARTON, b 1841 in Pendleton Co., KY, married to Horatio TUTTLE in 1858 in Pendleton Co. On Pendleton Co. census for 1850, 1860, 1870 and then I'm stuck. I believe she died fairly young, according to family stories. Thanks, Joan Byrne
