Hi List, I know alot of you are real new to genealogy, and do not understand the meanings, terms etc...sometimes used in genealogy. When talking of a Gedcom... GEDCOM is a standard file format for exchanging information between genealogy programs. The acronym GEDCOM stands for GEnealogical Data COMmunications. The Family History Department of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) developed the GEDCOM standard. Most genealogy software programs will export family information in GEDCOM format. A GEDCOM is a file containing information on a family, in a specific format. Usually a GEDCOM file is produced by entering data into a genealogical database program and then outputing the results in GEDCOM format. Most genealogical databases from Personal Ancestral File to Family Tree Maker to Ancestor Research Tool all will import and export GEDCOM format data. As stated above there are many programs out there to use. Most of them you can find a Demo for downloading, to see and test before you buy. I use many, I really like Family Tree Maker, I have the 4.0 of that one, but most all are simple to use. Anymore questions? LOL

Hi, Wanted to take a little of your time to let you know that I will also be working on Genforum to help people there with their research. Answering questions where I can, posting line information, etc...I do this because helping others with their line is so important to me. Unlike other list and people I am here to aid people in the search for roots and do not do this just as a game. A mail list cost less than $65.00 a year. I spend so far 65.00 a month for web space to just add info and genealogy so others may have a place to research from and a common ground to play fair. Others now try to copy. Which is great because it gives all of us another root to take. A little play on words there.:) I do not ask for anything in return except shared infomation. I may be out of line here, I pray not. I do this for the love and honor of family, have shared everything I have and searched and begged for more over the 2 years I have been doing it on the internet. I give freely of myself and my research and share whatever I can. This has been a great love and hobby of mine. If you have a Richard of Newbury line, then I will merge it into than database. If you have a unfinished line then I will merge it into the Bartlett Cousins Soup database. Send a gedcom or FTM 4.0 or early program to me. Take your tree as far back as you can take it, then the last Bartlett you have, put yourself as their parent and add your email in the area you would normally typ a persons name. This way, people will see your line and email you, and I want have to try and keep up with a 100 different lines. You share, I share...And who knows what could happen.
