Dear Bartlett Researchers, I felt a need to write this open letter to explain about the Bartlett Genealogy Foundation Repository.. The Bartlett Genealogy Foundation Online Repository is a totally free, open research site. You may use or download anything from the page for personal use. Thats what it is there for. If you pass something on from the page to another person, or copy it to your personal genealogy, then all I ask is that you give the Foundation or the person who submitted the data credit for the information we were able to provide you with. This site is a vast resource of information that is here for you to research from, this is because of all of the Bartlett cousins that came before you and shared the information . Just be kind, give credit where it is due, and share back if you are able. Thats all I ask. COPYRIGHT... Just for your general information, no one can copyright names, dates, places. No one can truly copyright a genealogy, only the form the genealogy is in. Such as a Gedcom of your family tree, you can copyright that, but if you pass it along to another to share with them and they in turn make a Family Tree Genealogy File, they can copyright it in that form. You can only copyright the form the genealogy is in, not the names, dates, places etc... in it. BARTLETT WAR... There is none, what goes on between me and someone else is our business and should not have been brought to this list for you the innocent Bartlett cousins to be brought in on.. Funding of the Bartlett Genealogy Online Repository I fund the site myself and to provide a place where you my cousins can gather information, to help you further your family genealogy. For how long will I maintain this site, I hope and pray for a very long time. Any and all work done is done straight from the my heart, and any genealogy found at this site, either I have done it or can put you in touch with the person who has donated that branch. BRASSY... Many people think my name is Tammy Ann Bartlett Harrison, well yes and no. Sometimes its just BRASSY. As a young Mother of two growing boys, a wife, genealogist, full time dish washer, camp director, nurse etc...You get the drift. I tend to have time for nonsense, or people who cause me stress, and as you all know have no problem letting someone know this. ON THE OTHER HAND... I am as honest as the day is long, truthfull to a fault at times. A bit blunt most of the time. I will not stand for any nonsense of one person taking advantage of another. Will help anyone with their genealogy, Bartlett related or not, and not such a bad gal at all. I am here if you need me, newbie or pro-Bartlett head hunter. What I have I give freely and from the heart. Tammy Ann Bartlett Harrison bartlett@bartlettgenealogy.com BGFOR http://www.bartlettgenealogy.com/

"Bartlett" is a good, honest Norman name, a diminutive of "Little Bartholomew" from the Isle of Wight in southern England. Has been and believed that this was the "heartland" for the Bartlett name, and from where the diaspora took place. Nice to have a few new UK cousins on the list to enlighten us all here in the states. We learn something new everyday.

This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --part0_899271911_boundary Content-ID: <0_899271911@inet_out.mail.aol.com.1> Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Hello, For the individuals that are connected to Robert of the Lion data base, if you check out Toni's first email that listed under the title of Bartlet that is one T at the end the names of Abigail and John of Deerfield.... That is of our line.. Abigail being John Stebbins wife and John Bartlett which should be Jonathan Bartlett (son of Samuel Bartlett, Abigail's brother).. Toni has graciously sent me the Full Loyalty Oath.. If you don't know it already before Robert took passage on the Lion, he signed a Loyalty oath to the King , I have a copy of that Oath. The original copy is in England and it has his signature with one "T" not two.. I'm still checking to see where the second "T" came into play.. Robert was not declared a "FREEMAN" until April 10, 1645.. So from the time Robert set sail on the ship Lion to April 10, 1645.. Robert was obligated /owed his allegience to the British Empire, or Monarchy until he was declared a "FREEMAN".. Ruth So when you see that someone has become a "FREEMAN" that means that the British Government released him from the Loyalty Oath that that person had signed.. --part0_899271911_boundary Content-ID: <0_899271911@inet_out.mail.aol.com.2> Content-type: message/rfc822 Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit Content-disposition: inline Return-Path: <tfeeney@int-usa.net> Received: from relay25.mx.aol.com (relay25.mail.aol.com [172.31.109.25]) by air14.mail.aol.com (v45.13) with SMTP; Tue, 30 Jun 1998 22:15:30 -0400 Received: from mail.int-usa.net ([207.51.112.2]) by relay25.mx.aol.com (8.8.8/8.8.5/AOL-4.0.0) with SMTP id WAA24644 for <TILADY@aol.com>; Tue, 30 Jun 1998 22:15:26 -0400 (EDT) Received: from [208.161.28.46] by mail.int-usa.net (NTMail 3.03.0014/1d.acdr) with ESMTP id qa308116 for <TILADY@aol.com>; Tue, 30 Jun 1998 22:23:36 -0400 Message-ID: <3598F310.DBFE5325@int-usa.net> Date: Tue, 30 Jun 1998 10:15:44 -0400 From: tfeeney <tfeeney@int-usa.net> Reply-To: tfeeney@int-usa.net X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.05 [en] (Win95; I) To: TILADY@aol.com Subject: Loyalty Oath Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit Ruth, Here is what is written in the book about the Association Test: The resolve of the Continental Congress and the order in its behalf by the New Hampshire Committee of Safety are printed in full below. ASSOCIATION TEST COLONY OF NEW HAMPSHIRE IN COMMITTEE OF SAFETY April 12th, 1776 In Order to carry the underwritten RESOLVE of the Hon'ble Continental CONGRESS into Execution, You are requested to desire all Males above Twenty One Years of Age (Lunaticks, Idiots, and Negroes excepted) to sign to the DECLARATION on this Paper; and when so done, to make Return hereof, together with the Name of Names of all who shall refuse to sign the same, to the GENERAL ASSEMBLY, or Committee of Safety of this Colony. M. Weare, Chairman In CONGRESS, March 14th, 1776 Resolved, That it be recommended to the several Assemblies, Convention, and Councils, or Committees of Safety of the United Colonies, immediately to cause all Persons to be disarmed, within their Respective Colonies, who are notoriously disaffected to the Cause of AMERICA, Or who have not associated, and refuse to associate, to defend by ARMS, the United Colonies, against the Hostile Attempts of the British fleets and Armies. (COPY) Extract from the Minutes. Charles Thompson, Sec'ry. In Consequence of the above Resolution, of the Hon. Continental CONGRESS, and to shew our Determination in joining our American Brethren, in defending the Lives, Liberties, and Properties of the Inhabitants of the UNITED COLONIES. WE, the Subscribers, do hereby solemnly engage, and promise, that we will, to the utmost of our Power, at the Risque of our Lives and Fortunes, with ARMS, oppose the Hostile Proceedings of the British Fleets, and Armies, against the United American COLONIES. This is about all there is in the book other than the names of the signers. One thing you might be interested in though is this record was originally published in Peter Force's "American Archives," Series IV, volume 5 (1848), and subsequently in "Miscellaneous Revolutionary Documents of New Hampshire," edited by Albert S. Batchellor and published in 1910 as volume 30 of the New Hampshire State Papers Series. Toni --part0_899271911_boundary--
In the 29th Annual Report I have of the "Boston Provident Association," there are two Bartlett contributors to this. This was an association that was an aid to the poor to help with whatever needs they might have in regards to food, clothing, rent etc. Two Bartlett contributors or subscribers, to this Association, in this report of 1880 are: Mathew Bartlett $35.00 Sidney Bartlett $200.00 Also in the 31st, 1882 report, Sidney Bartlett $100.00 Regards, Toni
Here goes my line, not much, but still looking for them. Thomas Bartlett b: AL., married Jenny Towns b: AL., had at least one daughter, my grandmother Margaret Elizabeth Bartlett, b: March 12, 1902, AL. d: April 18, 1929, Hammond, Lake Co., IN., married William Jackson Bellamy, Jr., they had issue of five, only one living now. I have tried to find Thomas & Jenny in AL. census records, a marriage record for them to no avail. My father told me many times that Thomas Bartlett was of wealth and may have been disowned from his family as it is said that he married a Native American, that being Jenny Towns. Some say Jenny only half Native American, I have searched Native American sources and have found nothing there either. If anyone knows of this family, please contact me. Thanks and good luck to all of you searching for those missing puzzle pieces. Patricia
More info re: JONATHAN BARTLETT - Taken from GGM Abstract: Jonathan was listed Dec. 2, 1788 on the Camden Co., GA voting list. in 1787 he signed Articles of Agreement. Jonahan, of Cockermouth, Grafton Co., NH, yoeman (what is a yoeman? it is not in Websters.) to John Bartlett, Jr. of Newbury, Essex Co., Mass. Jonathan's son, Esq. of Savannah. Like I said earlier, I'm very interested in these people because they could be a very big clue to some of GA Bartletts. Thanks, Mary I have no line to belong to at this time. I can only document back to Jesse Bartlett b. 1820 SC...
I would please like for the NH - Mass Line to help determine who these 2 fellas are and what line they descended from, if possible. This abstract is taken from the Georgia Geneaological Magazine 1962, p. 283 - Camden Co., GA Book L p. 127: EVAN BARTLETT of Hebron, Grafton Co., NH, by his Attorney-in-fact, Samuel Crosby of same place, to Horace S. Platt of St. Marys (GA). Deed dated Dec. 31, 1825, conveying part lot 55 in St. Mary drawn by JONATHAN BARTLETT, late of St. Marys, deceased. Book L, page 128: Power of Attorney from EVAN BARTLETT of Hebron, Grafton Co.,NH, husbandman, to Samuel Crosby of same place, dated Dec. 20, 1825, authorizing him to sell all real estate belonging to his brother, JONATHAN BARTLETT, formerly of Newbury, MASS., and late of St. Mary's, yoeman, deceased, said EVAN being the brother and lawful heir of said JONATHAN. GGM, 1962, p. 347: Book L/144, Camden Co., (GA) Mrs. HANNAH BARTLETT, wife of EVAN BARTLETT, of Hebron, Grafton Co., NH to Horace S. Platt of St. Marys, Minister of Gospel. Deed dated March 29, 1826, quit-claiming all her rights to part of lot 55 in St. Marys. Just for your interest, St. Marys is on the mainland just across from Cumberland Island, where John Kennedy got married. Camden Co. borders FL. And if there are, by chance, any one out there who is a Eugenia Price readers, does the name Horace Platt sound familiar? Was he one of her characters? I would like to know more about Jonathan, how old he was, who were his parents, if his was married - I presume not, since his brother was his legal heir. Since he was in Georgia, he may be a clue to some of the Georgia Bartletts - So, HELP.......
This was sent to me by a very dear friend, hope you enjoy it and please be safe this 4th. Also, please remember Ruth our list owner here in your prayers. She is a dear sweet lady who now finds herself in the middle of all those fires in the state of Florida. We all know what Bartletts and their decendants are able to do with a sword, gun or words, I just know a pray will even do more. Thank you for reading, Tammy As we head into the 4th of July it is important that we remember what the holiday is actually about... and what others gave up so we might enjoy freedom today. The story below tells what happened to the men who signed the Declaration of Independence. * * * What Happened to the Signers? Five signers were captured by the British and brutally tortured as traitors. Nine fought in the War for Independence and died from wounds or from hardships they suffered. Two lost their sons in the Continental Army. Another two had sons captured. At least a dozen of the fifty-six had their homes pillaged and burned. What kind of men were they? Twenty-five were lawyers or jurists. Eleven were merchants. Nine were farmers or large plantation owners. One was a teacher, one a musician, and one a printer. These were men of means and education, yet they signed the Declaration of Independence, knowing full well that the penalty could be death if they were captured. In the face of the advancing British Army, the Continental Congress fled from Philadelphia to Baltimore on December 12, 1776. It was an especially anxious time for John Hancock, the President, as his wife had just given birth to a baby girl. Due to the complications stemming from the trip to Baltimore, the child lived only a few months. William Ellery's signing at the risk of his fortune proved only too realistic. In December 1776, during three days of British occupation of Newport, Rhode Island, Ellery's house was burned, and all his property destroyed. Richard Stockton, a New Jersey State Supreme Court Justice, had rushed back to his estate near Princeton after signing the Declaration of Independence to find that his wife and children were living like refugees with friends. They had been betrayed by a Tory sympathizer who also revealed Stockton's own whereabouts. British troops pulled him from his bed one night, beat him and threw him in jail where he almost starved to death. When he was finally released, he went home to find his estate had been looted, his possessions burned, and his horses stolen. Judge Stockton had been so badly treated in prison that his health was ruined and he died before the war's end. His surviving family had to live the remainder of their lives off charity. Carter Braxton was a wealthy planter and trader. One by one his ships were captured by the British navy. He loaned a large sum of money to the American cause; it was never paid back. He was forced to sell his plantations and mortgage his other properties to pay his debts. Thomas McKean was so hounded by the British that he had to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Continental Congress without pay, and kept his family in hiding. Vandals or soldiers or both looted the properties of Clymer, Hall, Harrison, Hopkinson and Livingston. Seventeen lost everything they owned. Thomas Heyward, Jr., Edward Rutledge and Arthur Middleton, all of South Carolina, were captured by the British during the Charleston Campaign in 1780. They were kept in dungeons at the St. Augustine Prison until exchanged a year later. At the Battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr. noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the family home for his headquarters. Nelson urged General George Washington to open fire on his own home. This was done, and the home was destroyed. Nelson later died bankrupt. Francis Lewis also had his home and properties destroyed. The British jailed his wife for two months, and that and other hardships from the war so affected her health that she died only two years later. "Honest John" Hart, a New Jersey farmer, was driven from his wife's bedside when she was near death. Their thirteen children fled for their lives. Hart's fields and his grist mill were laid waste. For over a year he eluded capture by hiding in nearby forests. He never knew where his bed would be the next night and often slept in caves. When he finally returned home, he found that his wife had died, his children disappeared, and his farm and stock were completely destroyed. Hart himself died in 1779 without ever seeing any of his family again. Such were the stories and sacrifices typical of those who risked everything to sign the Declaration of Independence. These men were not wild-eyed, rabble-rousing ruffians. They were soft-spoken men of means and education. They had security, but they valued liberty more. Standing tall, straight, and unwavering, they pledged: "For the support of this declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of the Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor." * * * The story comes from http://www.self-gov.org/liberator/

Hi All, I am one of the newbies. To let you know how new I am to all of this- I had to have help in order to subscribe. But I will make up the rest in enthusiasm. I am one of the Bartlett cousins. I have no idea what branch I am connected to. My gggrandfather is Daniel John Bartlett. He married Alvina Schermerhorn on July 4, 1861 in Walworth County, Wisconsin. The info on his Registration of Marriage reads Daniel J. Bartlett, Father's name: Lock A. Bartlett. Mother's name: Mariam Bartlett. Occupation: Farmer. Residence of husband: Hebron, Illinois. Birthplace of husband: New York State. Full name of wife: Alvina Schermerhorn. -ETC. on wife's side. They lived in McHenry Co., Illinois when to first married and then moved to Clinton, Wisconsin. Where they lived, farmed and raised a family. That is all I know about my Bartletts. But I am on a mission to find out all I can. I don't know much more, other than children's names. But I am very interested in Tim's e-mail. The possibility of Bartletts in Canada. Perhaps that is why I am reaching dead ends. I have been writing to a Bartlett cousin who is also very interested in her Bartlett genealogy. She sent me info from the 1870, Ridgebury, PA census: L.D. Bartlett (age 65); father foreign born; Marion not listed, but it says "wife" (age 65). Mariam (n) Bartlett (age 64) listed as living in the household of Norman (spelling hard to read) Allen (age 37) and his wife Harriett (age 28) maybe Marion's daughter? Phoebe (spelling hard to read) Bartlett (age 24) (listed as a head of household) and Lafayette (age 1). The next household is listed as Alonzo Bartlett (age 42), born in Canada. His wife Amelia (age 32); Lilla (age 2). I have no idea how to use GEDCOM. But I will try to learn. Thank you--Thank you--Thank you. For all that you are doing to preserve the Bartlett name. Because of you I am more determined then ever to stay focussed in my search. Keep up the good work-you are an inspiration. Donna
In a book I have, "Inhabitants of New Hampshire, 1776," by Emily S. Wilson, there are some Bartlett's listed who signed the Association pledging their loyalty to the cause of the colonies. Not all towns are listed and some names might not be signed if they were already in the Continental Army. An n after a persons name means that this person was a non-associator and refused to sign the Association, therefore someone else wrote his name in. The Continental Congress resolved that all persons who refused to sign should be disarmed. Ruth Just a quick note to say I'll be there for the chat in July! I'm assuming that a start time will be decided before the day arrives? It's a wonderfull idea and I can't wait to meet some more cousins. Along with England and Scotland maybe you should add Canada to the list? I live in Calgary, Alberta ( it's a long story) Richard of Newbury's line sure gets around! :-) Do you know of anyone else on this list that lives in Canada? I'm sure they would have some interesting stories surounding the American Revolution and how their line arrived in Canada. Hope they too will be chating in July. BTW my nick for the chat will be CageNutM5 the sameone I use on IRC. Don't worry about being a newbie, we all are at one time or another. Hi Ruthie & list members, Thanks for the welcome, Ruthie!! The line I am researching is, I believe, the Richard line from Newbury. I am particularly interested in a Priscilla Bartlett (Samuel, Joshua, Samuel, Samuel, Richard, Richard). She was born 1774 in Maine. One source lists Priscilla as being married to a Brice Jameson. My question? Was this Priscilla married twice? The Priscilla I am looking for ( according to the IGI) was married to Josiah Foss. They had the following children: Samuel Bartlett Foss b: Apr 20, 1799 Thetford, Orange, Vt. Tiba Foss b: abt 1801 Thetford, Orange, Vt. Nancy Foss b: abt 1803 Thetford Sally Foss b: abt 1805 prob. Derby, Orleans, Vt Phebe Foss b: abt 1807 Derby Susan Foss b: abt 1809 Derby Fanny Foss b: abt 1811 Derby Betsey Foss b: abt 1813 Derby Lucinda Foss b: abt 1815 Derby Does anyone have this Priscilla in their database? Thanks for any and all info anyone might have to confirm that these two Priscilla's are the same person. Regards, Toni
Hi Everyone, Does anyone have a George Dexter Bartlett in their line? He was born in Danville, Vermont in 1837. He married Asabel Dennett in 1859. (she was from Charlestown, Ma.) Let me know if this rings any bells. Thanks Mike Bartlett MJBJFK@aol.com
