I'm going to submit this information to our "reunions" person. Our reunions run on a space available basis, so hopefully it will appear a few times in the near future. I'm also going to submit it to our family trees writer Nancianne Parkes Suber, for possible use in her Saturday column. Thanks Frank Brown Features Editor The Clarion-Ledger 601-961-7060 [email protected] www.clarionledger.com > ---------- > From: Keith Dowdy [email protected] > Sent: Monday, January 20, 2003 2:12 PM > To: Brown, Frank > Subject: Revolutionary War Soldier Memorial story > > Dear Mr. Brown, > > I have copied to this email information I'd like to see printed in the newspaper. As I don't know what your policy for unsolicited material is, I'll leave it to you to decide what to do with it. As the subject pertains to a fairly large group of people in Mississippi, I believe you could justify covering it. I'd be happy to provide you with more information about the mentioned historical Mississippi family. > > Please acknowledge receipt of this email and whether you plan to use the article. > > Sincerely, > > Marilyn Dowdy > > > BARRETT FAMILY TO ERECT MEMORIAL FOR REVOLUTIONARY SOLDIER ANCESTOR > > > > REUBEN BARRETT was a horseman in the South Carolina Militia and fought for America> '> s freedom in the Revolutionary War. His descendents migrated South and West, with many settling in central Mississippi counties, including Kemper, Noxubee, Neshoba, Leake, Attala and Madison. Barrett will be memorialized along with his first wife Hannah, during a memorial service at Tyger Baptist Church in Greenville, South Carolina on Sunday, May 25, 2003. A family member of a Barrett descendent will preach the Sunday morning sermon at Tyger Baptist Church, followed by a ceremony in the adjoining cemetery to dedicate the new headstone marking the graves of Reuben and Hannah Barrett. Until now, the graves have been marked only by two fieldstones with the initials R.B. and H.B. carved into them. The cost of the double headstone grave marker will be approximately $1730.00. Barrett descendents also hope to obtain approval and place an emblem from the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution on the headstone, which will require additional funds. Donations are welcome and may be made to the Reuben Barrett Memorial Marker Fund, c/o James P. Barrett, 917 Gettysburg, Bedford, TX 76022-7621. Make checks or money orders payable to James P. Barrett. > > > > The BARRETT FAMILY REUNION, organized by descendents of Reuben Barrett across the United States, will be Friday, May 23-Monday, May 26, 2003, at Quality Inn Haywood, Greenville, South Carolina.
