    3. Hi, Janet-- Welcome back! You are right, I stay far over on my side! I went into your files once looking to see if I could figure out how you did a certain html code, and I felt like a criminal! Since then, I've searched out the free websites that tell how to do things I needed or wanted to do. I'm so proud of myself to figure these things out on my own without bothering you! And I want to thank you again for all your help during my dunce period! Doing the site has been a really educational experience in so many ways. I can hardly begin to list everything I've learned, in the technical aspect of doing it, in Civil War history, and about the families who lived in Montgomery County, Texas at that time. And now, All, I have just had an interesting experience that may be worth mentioning. A distant cousin who is the descendant of my Civil War Captain Wooldridge (and a distant cousin on the Viser/McCan line) sent me 6 old photos that his sister had saved from their mother's things. She had them down in Mexico where she is retired in an American enclave. I used the book "Dating Old Photographs" by Halvor Moorstead, and did a lot of Googling looking for the studios whose names were stamped on the rear of two of the photos. The photos all turned out to be among the earliest CDV's (Carte de Visite) made, and were all from the 1860s. We are positive one of the photos is Captain Wooldridge, and I am putting the iimage on the bio page for Capt. Wooldridge. One of the photos was made by a studio in Providence, R. I, and was a tiny image of Jefferson Davis pasted in an ornate embossed "frame." I found several similar photos made by the same studio offered for sale to collectors, and they were asking from $250 to $400 for them! I'm sure the Jefferson Davis (president of the Confederacy) photo was in the family collection because of the fact that Capt. Wooldridge fought under him in the Mexican War, in the First Mississippi Regiment. Sorry to take up Barrett space rattling on about these, but I want everyone to know that it IS possible to date the old photos, sometimes within a year or two of when they were made. Having the originals in hand is of utmost importance, so that you can measure the size and thickness and see the corners of the cards that the photos were pasted to. And the name of the studio, if any, is a major clue. Just remember NEVER to touch the images themselves, handle on the edges. Even when our hands are clean, we have oils on them that can cause damage to the photos.
