    3. Deb-- This DOES sound suspicious. John R. and Polly's first child was David Henry Parker, and we know from old records that he was called "Henry." I would be amazed if notes from 1845 (the year the Parkers came to Houston County Tx. from Fayette Co., Tn.) still exist, but stranger things have happened. It's of course possible that someone made notes from an old letter or a diary. I have biographical sketches of both Henry Parker and of his half-brother, James McCarley, on my web pages (on Barrett Branches) concerning the Civil War history of Capt. Wooldridge's companies. Here is the URL for Henry Parker, and you can get to James McCarley from this page by clicking on his name. Be sure the whole URL is copied into your browser; if it isn't all highlighted, you will have to copy and paste. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~barrettbranches/Researchers/ Karen%20Hett/biographies/henryparker.html I think it's worth following up on, Deb, as the names certainly are right. As far as Mary being born in Georgia, we think David and family lived in Greenville until they left for Tennessee; there's always the outside possibility that they went over to Georgia to check it out, but came back home to S. C. Never say never. More likely, the Parkers were not home on the day the census taker came; he was required to get the information from a neighbor when the family was not at home--he was not going to be paid for going back to the house another day. That's the reason you often find some wild ages and birth places on census records. Let us know what else you can find out from that branch of Parkers. 3. Good Morn Karen and family, I always love going through all your research and reading about the history of our soldiers. It is so sad that so many died so young, but as I explained to my grandson . He asked one time "maw maw do I have ancestors"? I had to laugh a little on that one."Did I have a relative die at the Alamo,,why did so many really died at the Alamo,do people just like to fight"? I told him no people don't really like to fight and loose their loved ones to battle but it is just like the war we are in right now, there are people out there that can't stand the word freedom. They want to rule people and tell them what they can and can't do. He said well you tell me what I can and can't do. Boy ,,can't argue with an 8 year old. Anyway I asked him if I was evil and he said no way and I said the ones who want to hurt our people and control them usually are. I told him If we had not made a stand at the Alamo ,Texas would be Mexico. Then he said well I sure don't want to be Iraq. I had to hug him for a good minute to keep from crying. As far as the Parker notes and such,Cynthia said this is an old trunk that her father left her. She was only 17 when he died and like so many a few years go by and you start wondering who are these people in these pictures. Old newspaper clippings and an old notebook which now after I told her it may be a hand written copy of a bible or family ledger she agreed. Ewell's g grand father was a brother to her g g grandfather. She lives 20 miles from Brownsville,TN so she is going to start hitting some of the libraries in the area and cemeteries. Her descendants name was James Richard Parker ,they called him Jim. For a while I have wondered if the John R. that married Mary Polly middle name was Richard. The name Richard kept popping up in a few counties in that era. As you,Jim and Janet pointed out census are just a good source to use as a guideline but not acurate some times. Could be that John R. came out of the Carolina's as did my husband's side. I will keep you updated on any information she finds. When she gets her scannner repaired or replaced she will send me what she can. She is going to donate most it to the library so it doesn't deteriate any more than it already has. I do believe the oldest letter we have in the family is dated 1881 and Ewell's cousin in Goliad had it sealed in some kind of plexy glass or something. I told her to be very careful, I would rather obtained it from the library after it had been preserved verves her damage it with the bright light of a scanner. We are scheduling a Parker reunion in Tennessee for Easter 2005 so I hope I find some answers and possible the connection if any. I told hubby he could takes his golf clubs if he will let me do all the research I want and he said Good Trade. That is one of my favorite parts on Dances with Wolves, where he lost his hat and one of the Indians picked it up after the hunt.
