Invasion of Privacy Google has implemented a new feature wherein you can type someone's telephone number into the search bar and hit enter and then you will be given a map to their house Before forwarding this, I tested it by typing my telephone number in google.com. My phone number came up, and when I clicked on the MapQuest link, it actually mapped out where I live. Quite scary. Please look up your own number. Read below for details. Think about it--if a child, single person, ANYONE gives out his/her phone number, someone can actually now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious, and alarming. This is not a hoax; MapQuest will put a star on your house on your street. In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to: www.google.com Type your phone number in the search bar with dashes (i.e. 555-555-1212) (dashes &no spaces very important) and hit enter. This will divulge your name and address. You will see a link option to the right for MapQuest (click on it), which will use the address to provide a map to your home or place of business. If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information, simply click on the telephone icon next to your phone number. Then read and click where it says click here. I removed my name, but it takes 48-hours. If you are unlisted in the phone book, you might not be in there, but it is a good idea just to check. Please forward on to friends and family
Google has had that option for quite awhile now. If you are an unlisted or private number then you are not able to access your number on google. The reason it is done this away is their information comes from the phone books. Then anyone is able to mapquest any kind of information. People are easy to find on the internet. That is why you always need to take a precaution when giving out your phone number or any personal information. You can even find ways to look up people by their email address. With that said I hope people are a little more cautious when using the internet. Sincerely, Brandy McCann Crafton --- keith dowdy <k.dowdy@mchsi.com> wrote: > Thank you for this information. Marilyn-- Essentially there's no descendant line for Albert Gallatin Barrett. Only three of his many children (all male) lived to adulthood and married. Two of these boys died in the Civil War, one leaving one child, the other leaving two children. The third son who survived also married, had one child, then died. None of us has ever found any trace of these grandchildren of Albert Gallatin. Well, let me qualify that. Mitch found the second marriages of the Hill girls (the oldest two boys married sisters), and found their Barrett children on a census, I think, maybe 1870. I know he sent me that information but I never put it in my data base, and he's out of pocket for the time being. Of David Barrett's children, we have primarily the lines of the John Whitten Barrett descendants. We did find two descendants of David's daughter, Miriam, who married Hansel Coburn, but they are not actively researching any more as far as I know. Janet found someone who thought she was a descendant of Mary who married John R. Parker, but the lady has never been able to prove her line to Mary. I think that any descendants will have to find US, as it looks as though we aren't going to easily find THEM. Good morning everyone, I hope it is all right for me to thank all of you for the information in this one message, rather then send several messages. The Hill family has been very hard to research, and hard to find very much on them. I have often wondered what happened to the Barrett boys, and appreciate the information on the Civil War units they belonged to and their deaths. I will watch for the name Bithel Hill in my research. Alta-- I'm SO delighted to find someone connected to that family! Many years ago, probably in the early '70s, I went to Giddings, Texas to meet Billy Barrett who had "The Barrett Family Bible." The Bible had been handed down in his branch of the Barrett family, and he thought it was our line. However, when I looked at it, I realized right away that it was Albert Gallatin's Bible. His family was kind enough to Xerox the family pages for me, and I think this is the copy that's still floating around. I don't know what has happened to the Bible since that time. As to why it passed through John Whitten Barrett's family, the three boys were living with John W. when the war started, and I'm guessing that they just went off and left their things at their uncle's home. The youngest was not old enough to fight in the war, but he married a few years later and died shortly after his marriage. He also left one child behind. Somewhere buried deep in my Barrett records I have the Civil War records for these two older boys. I probably haven't looked at them in 20 years. When I was corresponding with a Whitten researcher, Arthur Reagan, in the 1970s, he went to the National Archives for me and found other related military records that are not filed in the Compiled Service Records. Mitch Vetuski and I spent years trying to find any trace of the children of David and John and the Hill girls. I finally decided that they are going to have to find US, rather than us finding them. I know that Mitch has identified the second marriages for the Hill girls, and at the moment I can't put my fingers on those records. Mitch is out of pocket for the time being, all his records are in storage while he's building his own home. We're so happy that you have found us, hope to hear more from you.
