These links were sent through another subscription ancestral mailing list. Maybe the links will help someone to get over the "brick wall." I believe that at least one of them came from Cyndi Howell's List at Roots Web,which is an excellent site for researchers. It gave me a new perspective on searching for that elusive ancestor. Thanks Karen, First I must correct the way I spelled his name. Debra tells us it is Connor, not Conner. Connor is a Texan form way back, but on his mother's side. Jan had family here when the declaration of independence was signed March 2, 1836. My first Texas resident didn't get here until about 30 years after that event. Connor's father's line didn't arrive here until after Debra and Scott were married. On Saturday May 22, 2004 Marilyn Dowdy, her mother, Jan and I will be meeting that the Tyger Baptist Church to dedicate the DAR marker on Reuben's grave. We would like to invite any and all interested parties. I apologize for the short notice, but Marilyn has been trying to arraign for the SC DAR to take part in the service. A time has not been set, but I'm shooting for 2:00 pm. I have been in contact with the preacher's wife at the church and she has received approval from the church board for us to meet there and make use of their building as needed. She and her husband will be there to meet us this time. As before they are going out of their way to make us feel welcome. It makes us wish we lived close enough that we could attend their church. If you know any Barrett relative who might be interested and who is on our mailing list please let them know. We hope to see many of you there. Jim Barrett Bedford, TX

Jim posted this and was the author of the information. Good job,Jim,as usual. He is probably a "cousin" as is the Barrett running for Senate in OK. Hi Jim, I don't know about the Dan Barrett running for governor, but I know of Oklahoma's governor, Kirk Humphreys running for Senator. http://www.humphreysforsenate.com/ [click on the 'about' tab for a good picture of him & his family] Kirk's grandfather is George John Humphreys, a half-brother to John Thomas BARRETT, son of Mary Hill & John George Barrett, [son of Albert G. Barrett & Sarah D. Seaton]. After John George Barrett's death, Mary [Hill] Barrett married William B. Humphreys and their 1st child born in Hunt Co, TX was George John Humphreys [Kirk's grandfather] - and possibly named after John George Barrett. God Bless.... Alta

Hi Debbie, Thank you for the info on John Thomas Barrett & I will try to check it further. I have not found a marriage for Elizabeth Hill, before or after husband, David Barrett. The only information I have on Elizabeth after David Barrett's death is the 1870 Hunt Co, TX census, with their 2 children & Arkansas Dawson. I have not found a family link to Arkansas Dawson either. I appreciate the help you have given, and I will try to find more on her as soon as I am able to research more. I am trying to recover from pneumonia, so haven't been able to do very much. Thank you again. Alta PS: Below is the info I 'now' have on Arkansas Dawson. There are other Dawson families living close to Arkansas Dawson on the 1870 Hunt Co, TX census & the 1880 Rusk Co, TX census that I will try to check later too. ------------------------------------------------ Arkansas Dawson, b. ca 1856 AL, married 25 Aug 1872 Rusk Co, TX to William Henry Paul b. ca 1845 TX. Theda, Actually she doesn't have a bed yet. She is sleeping on a futon in my brothers livingroom. We have gotten her a storage room to store things she gets until we can rebuild her house. I can ask her which size she prefers if you like. And thanks so much for thinking of her. We have been asking all the people we know to donate a small amount Home Depot or Lowes gift card to help buy the lumber for her house (all the electrical and labor to rebuild are already donated). We are also sending letters out to all the Home Depot and Lowes stores and asking for small gift card donations from each manager (we tryed at corporate level but they only donate to non profit org.), so hopefully we will be able to get her back into a home before to much longer. Remember to keep her in your prayers. Hugs, Janet
