I found this looking for Kelly's for my sister in law. This may help this person find information, oddly I have found information thru the Galveston Daily News that I would never have thought. It surprises me to have lived in Galveston thirty nine years and then leave the area to find it played such a large part of history as being a port. Of course this doesn't mean they stayed there any length of time but is may have some importance. Have a good day Deb Ancestral Endeavor by Michael A. Janet, My prayers and love go out to your brother and his family. He will be remembered with love and in prayer at our church. Take care. Love, Gaye
Janet I was sadden to hear about your brother. I am glad he wasn't hurt any worse than he was. When I was eleven my fannel night gown caught fire from the fire place and I had first, second and third degree burns from my right ankle to my neck. We lived on a ranch on the west end of Galveston and mom had planted aloe plants everywhere. The doctor told her that it is what kept me from scaring. It also relieved a lot of the pain. She disobeyed the doctor's instructions and medications and would cut those plant leaves open and lay them all over my leg and back twice a day. The first degree burns hurt the worse because third degree apparently does nerve damage. When the feeling starts coming back the third will really hurt. The doctor was amazed how fast I healed. The aloe is messy and feels like you are laying in boiled okra but it really does help. I hope he doesn't suffer too much and will back to himself soon. It is very frightening to be burned by fire and my heart goes out to him. Jim, Marilyn and everyone else, I am so proud that this DAR ceremony is going to take place for Reuben. We all have worked so hard in the last few years to bring his life recognition again. And to make his life a lasting remembrance after 200 years of sleeping. He has gone from descendants scattered throughout the US not really knowing each other to having a warm loving family again. From two small stones with their initials on them to a beautiful headstone that will be able to be seen for generations to come and now with the loving care of Marilyn and Jim, his military career will stand in marble so those same generations may hold their heads up proud and know that we even after 200 years are proud of our grandfather. He received the "funeral service " he should have gotten the first time around two years ago, and now he will receive the Military Service he should have gotten then also. He was a wonderful, caring man when he lived, it is only fitting that we all show him that even after 200 years his blood has passed on to many many more wonderful caring generations of grandsons and granddaughters. My heart is truly touched to know that I am one of those Granddaughters and that I am a part of this loving caring family. I want so much to be there and to be a part of this ceremony, and will do everything I can to be there, as I hope everyone else will be. If not, then please know that Marilyn said she would record the ceremonies and make it available for our family website so all of us can share in it. Marilyn, Jim I am very proud of both of you. Hugs, Janet
Marilyn Dowdy has come through again!!!! She has managed to put the big pot in the little pot! A small portion of her last message to me: "Elizabeth Sutton has rounded up a bunch of DAR 'importants' and has made arrangements for a color guard & rifle salute from Furman U., and has sent me a "DAR Ritual" ceremony specifically for this event." If you are a member of the DAR through Reuben or you know of anyone who is, please send their name to Marilyn. I'm sure she would rather have some duplicate names rather than to miss anyone. Once again, "THANK YOU!! MARILYN" Jim Barrett Bedford, TX
Thank you, cousin and the feeling is mutual. Take care. As ever, A Barrett cousin, Gaye

Guess I'm worse off than I thougjht. When I read my note to Gaye I said my name was Joan Barrett May - it's not - it's Joan Barrett Blanks.
Gaye, My sister, Jean Barrett May and I, Joan Barrett May are both members of DAR, Chief Red Jacket Chapter, Brandon, Ms. and our ancestor is Reuben Barrett. Congratulations.
Just a reminder that we will be dedicating the DAR marker for Reuben at 2:00 pm May 22, at the cemetery. Everyone is invited. I received confirmation today that the DAR marker has been attached to the stone. I still don't know what is will cost us to have the marker attached. When we were there last year the man who was suppose to drill the mounting hole retired after having a hip ball joint replacement. The local monument company was unable to find anyone else to drill the holes so they took the stone back to Georgia to have that done. Susan, the preacher's wife, had Jake, the preacher, go to the cemetery this morning to check on the stone. He reports that he believes we will be very pleased. We are truly blessed to be dealing with this church and church family. Gerry, congratulations. We'll wave as we pass through the Clinton area Saturday, May 15. Jim Barrett Bedford, TX
