Thought maybe some of you may want to participate in this. Dear Janet, With the passing of President Ronald Reagan, one of our country's great leaders, our nation remembers the historic accomplishments of our 40th President. Many of us are also reminded of the impact that President Reagan's optimistic stewardship of our nation had on our lives and the lives of our families. We have created a living memorial on our website, www.GeorgeWBush.com, where we invite you to share your thoughts and memories. Your entries will be posted alongside many others to form an online tribute to President Reagan. Go to www.GeorgeWBush.com/Reagan/ to participate in the living memorial.
Hello All, I had an experience today that I want to share with all of you. I had a DR. Appt today and it was raining so bad when I went. The wind was whipping bad. My oil light went on so I stopped at a Shamrock to put oil in my car. I went in, bought it and in the rain and wind checked it and it said it was full, I checked it again, still full. So I put half a can in and left. The rain had gotten really bad by now and I almost started to pull over cause I couldn't see where I was going. But something told me to keep going. On my way back from the DR, going the same way I had gone, there were limbs all over the road, the station I had stopped at had yellow tape roping it off and the gas pumps I had been parked next to 30 minutes before were pulled out of the ground and laying on it's side!!! The tornado hit right after I had left!! It evidently was right behind me as I was driving. Believe me, as soon as I saw that I got chills up my spine and I said "THANK YOU GOD!!!". He was surely giving me the feelings I was getting to hurry up with the oil and to keep driving instead of stopping. I have a habit that everytime I am nervous something is going to happen, I always tell myself, That God is watching over me and he will keep me from harm and won't let anything happen to me or my children, and after my experience today He proved to me that he really is watching over me. Anyway, it really effected me and I wanted to share it with my family. God bless you all, Hugs, Janet

Thank you Jim, I bounced around looking for people who I know the origin of their race and the Barrett's in Neshoba County that are ours had some check marks too. So I guess it possibly means father and mother or something like that. I want to thank you and everyone who made the gathering at South Carolina such a wonderful family event. I so wished I could have gone. Thank you for all your hard work, I too am so proud to be a part of this family. A special thanks to everyone and I would not have noticed Marilyn's attire had she not mentioned it. Deb, I just looked at this record online. I don't believe the check in the race column has anything to do with race. In many cases both parents had checks but the children didn't. The checks didn't always apply to adults, so I'm not sure what this recorder was trying to tell us. He was in the 45th infantry division Co. G as was his uncle Jeremiah Barrett. His father and Jeremiah's brother was Lawrence Barrett who raised horses and sold some to Union soldiers during the war. One of those horses was shot from under a Union officer at the Battle of Stones River. I understand that Lawrence was a farmer who also made many items out of cedar including baskets and even coffins. Apparently he was murdered by an unknown assailant when struck over the head after dinner one night by a singletree. Lawrence's mother was a Betsy Hancock Barrett who brought her 7 children into Wilson Co TN in March of 1831. It has been said that she may have been Cherokee or part Cherokee and came west from North Carolina as a result of the Removal Act of 1830. Her husband John Alston was a fur trader who operated a business on the Mississippi. He ei! ther died of Cholera on a flatboat by New Orleans or was killed by the great wheel of a paddle boat when he accidentally fell into the river. I would love to learn more about this Barrett line including where they might have originated from. I understand that you might have additional information that you would be willing to share. If this is the case, please feel free to email me at this address. Thank you for your consideration. In 1860 census for Itawamba County,Ms it doesn't show the color of the individual. If there is a check mark does that mean white, black or mulatta? Does any one know? There is a Samuel W. Barrett age 52 SC (wagon maker),Eliza C age 48 SC, Joseph W. age 7 MS, Harriett B. age 5 MS, David M. Coker 22 ALA,Martha J. 22 MS,Sarah A. Beene 15 Ms. But Saml and Eliza have check marks. Thanks Deb
Hi Rachelle I will post what I find on Samuel's and then if any one on the site recognizes them for they belong in thier families maybe we can elimate a few that way. Have you found Samuel in the census? Are we sure that is his first name or middle? Hi Rachelle, Good to hear from you, I see you are still on the quest. It is possible your Samuel may have been married before Emily because he was abt 34 when they married. I have ran across a couple Samuel' who look like possibles but from SC and VA. Of course as many have told me the census is not 100 per cent acurate. I will keep my eye out for you since I just started back researching again after many months. I will copy you anything that pops out to me. Take Care Love Deb ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rachelle" <sanddrs@bellsouth.net> To: <BARRETT-REUBEN-SC-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, June 04, 2004 8:08 PM Subject: [Barrett-Reuben-SC] Samuel Barrett b) abt 1810 NC > Looking for any information on parents/siblings of Samuel Barrett b) abt 1810 in NC. m) 1st Emily Byars in Winston County, MS 1844 and m) 2nd Elizabeth Smith in Winston County, MS 1855. Beth, I have a lady who contact me from Katy ,Texas that says she is helping her children do their family tree and although she is divorced from their father of many years. She said her father in law was William Robert Brooks Seale , who was Billy's sixth child by Emma. She said she knew Hattie and she had a daughter named Earlene. I only have George,Mattie Pearl,Hattie,Lillie, and Ina Lee for Billy's second family. Do you know if there was a sixth? I am not doubting her but the only William Robert's I have are Barrett's. I gave her Margie's phone #, because I am sure she would know, right? Let me know if you can fill any of the blanks for us. I do have a Robert C. but I have him listed with Billy's first set of children. I only have he was married to Lillie and never found any more on him. This man supposed fought in the war with his father Billy. She does know that his father was a black smith in Madisonville. So it has to be our William Joseph Seale. Hope you are doing okay , Love Deb
If any of you know anything about this family please contact Gale. Thanks. Jim Barrett Bedford, TX -----Original Message----- From: Gale Creel [mailto:lilgiggle@msn.com] Sent: Thursday, June 03, 2004 9:39 AM To: parino@flash.net Subject: BARRETT DNA Hello Jim, I am researching a Barrett line from Louisiana/Mississippi since 1980 but still at the same spot LOL Dan Barrett gave me your email to send you a message. I was wondering do you have any Barretts with: George W. Barrett born cir 1784 NC/SC that came to Mississippi, lived in the Lawrence CO., and Copiah Co., Ms. areas....removed to La. prior to 1840 since he and his son George Henry Barrett were both listed on the 1840 Catahoula Par., La Census. My gr gr grandmother was St.Helena Barrett born cir 1825 Ms. married 5-6-1842 Caldwell Par., La. to Richard Nelson, stated in the marriage license that they were both residents of Catahoula Par., La. I really believe that she is the dtr or grandaughter of George W. Barrett and his wife Sara. (lnu)... George W. Barrett & wife Sarah are listed on the 1850 Jackson Par., La. federal census with my Richard and St.Helena Barrett Nelson not far from them...also they are land records between George W. Barrett & my Richard Nelson... There were other Barretts in the same Parish: Nathaniel Barrett married to Mary Ann "Polly" (LNU) (removed to Texas via: 1860 Smith Co., Tx. then to1870 & 1880 Dallas Co., Tx. where he died) Bethena Barrett married Thomas Honea (she was living w/ George W. & Sarah along w/ a dtr of hers) (stayed in Louisiana died somewhere in Rapides Par., La. I think) Sarah Barrett married to Marion C. Wheat (died in Grant Par., La) Mahala Barrett married to WIlliam Bailey (died in Rapides or Grant Par., La) Bathsheba "Barshaby" Barrett married to James Edward Lyons (removed to Tx. died and buried In Smith Co.,Tx) Delilah Barrett married John Dunn (removed to Tx. via: 1860 Parker Co., Tx. 1870 McLennan Co., Tx. believed to be buried in Montague Co., Tx.) The above listed barretts were all in 1850 Jackson Par., La. Federal Census along w/ my Richard & St.Helena Barrett Nelson (they removed to Tx. by 1860 Nacogdoches per tax record only - then 1870 Hill Co., Tx. and then back to 1880 Nacogdoches Co., Tx. where they died cir 1896 and buried in Cushing, Tx.) Other Barretts that were around them in other areas are: Midberry Barrett married a William Dunn (possible bro to John Dunn) married in Copiah or Lawrence Co., Ms lived in 1850 Catahoula Par., La. and stayed there till they died) Milly Barrett married a John Aarons (married in Copiah or Lawrence Co., MS. can not find them on 1850 census but on 1860 Denton Co., Tx. AND from what I understand they went back to La. or Ark but can not find them on census George Henry Barrett married Sarah Honea (sister to Thomas Honea) they moved back to Copiah Co., Ms. to be by her parens Wilkes and Celia Ann Smith Honea and later by 1880 moved back to Grant Par., La. where they died There was a Salathiel W. Barrett that married a Nancy Myles in Copiah or Lawrence Co., Ms. around the other ones that married there but can not find any record on this couple at all.... Well, I know I have given you more info than you probably wanted to read but I am Desperate LOL the only male lines are the George W. Barrett born cir 1784, George Henry Barret born cir 1820/s and Nathaniel Barrett born cir 1819 and this Salathiel W. Barrett that I can not find ..... Hoping that you may have some good news for me.... Gale Cole-Creel
Looking for any information on parents/siblings of Samuel Barrett b) abt 1810 in NC. m) 1st Emily Byars in Winston County, MS 1844 and m) 2nd Elizabeth Smith in Winston County, MS 1855. You all have been so helpful getting me this far on my search I have to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone. Deb, especially to you. Rachelle
Thanks for the kind words. This goes to prove you should never miss a family reunion! I have not been able to go to the McCann reunions because of our never having a weekend off for 25 years; then I missed the one last year because we had other plans. I was floored when Bobbie Stone showed me the letter the first day of the reunion. Just goes to prove that important old documents are still in existence and are probably being thrown away daily! As far as my putting the letter on the web pages, it was a pain to do it, took me six hours! But I knew this would be the easiest and best way to share it with others who might be interested in it. I was so glad I took my scanner, even though I had no idea whether people would bring old photos or documents. Brandy, these people are really nice, and there were people and children of all ages. Also, the weather was cool and wonderful, and that is a beautiful part of Oklahoma. And speaking of the web pages, last year at this time I didn't know html from PDF! True! Now I can create documents in both! Thanks so much, Janet, for coaching me through the html, I know it was agonizing for you. I'm just a li'l ole gramma in tennis shoes, and I know it was frustrating to be asked the same question over and over and have to give the same answer patiently six times! Marilyn, you did a beautiful on the dedication report--it's a keeper! Thanks so much for all your hard work. This is truly a tribute to our common ancestor, and I'm so proud to be a part of this family!
