    1. Re: [Barrett-Reuben-SC] Computer for Janet
    2. I received an email from Janet this week from her Father's house. She said that she and her husband were going to South Carolina this week. I suppose that is why you have not been able to catch her. 1. Computer for Janet
    2. Hello everyone, Glenn has made a suggestion that we purchase a new computer for Janet, as hers has crashed. I have been trying to contact Janet for the past week, but as of this time I have not been able to talk with her. Glenn has sent me a check, and I will continue to collect money until I talk with Janet to find a computer that fits her needs. If you would like to donate, please send your check to me. I think that it is very important to keep Janet up and running. She has been invaluable to the group, and the work she has done has given us a place to meet and share information. No check is to small. Just think what Janet could do if she had a high speed computer with CD burner. Jim Alexander P.O. Box 21 Spring, Texas 77383 281/367-9430

    1. Dead Fred
    2. Jim Barrett
    3. Karen, Thanks for the "Dead Fred" information. Were you able to find the link for the list of people in each picture? I didn't. The link to Caswell Barrett's family is http://www.couchgenweb.com/family2/barrett.htm William Franklin Barrett, grandson of Caswell, had sons Arthur and Reuben, who would have been of the right age to be in these pictures. These two young men were the brothers of (Sarah) Lois Barrett O'Kelly. For those of you who weren't lucky enough to know Lois, she was a MAJOR Barrett researcher who lived in Starkville, MS, during the time I knew her. I sure wish Lois was still with us. She would get one of her relatives to provide a DNA sample for the Barrett Surname Project. I have contacted a couple of them with no takers. If any of you know of male Barrett descendants of Reuben's brother Arthur we sure could use another sample or two, particularly if they descend from someone other than David Barton Barrett. 1. Re: Barrett Archives, Dead Fred, Old Photo i. d., and Tyger plat map
    2. Karen Hett
    3. Jim--thanks so much for this URL for the Archives! I knew that all the messages were archived but have never taken the time to figure out where! I guess it's not searchable. That's too bad, but it's certainly better than nothing at all. I was given the Dead Fred website by the editor of the Montgomery County Texas Herald, since I was writing an article on the identification of old photos. I typed in Barrett, and up popped those photos! I really would like to share my photo i.d. article with all of you, because I found out that far from being helpless, we are now empowered due to all kinds of help sources. A few hours of concentrated study and some experience with your own old photos can make anyone into a semi-expert. I wish I had learned all of this long ago, since there are many old photos that will never pass through my hands again. When it is finished, I'll put it on a web page so everyone can see it. The photos that I practiced on were sent to me by Carlton Cranor, a descendant of sister of my g-gf James McCan who married Amanda Barrett. Jim, I am very impressed with your Tyger plat map. It is wonderful to have it available! You know for sure that Hannah's relatives are among the surnames of Reuben's neighbors. Nothing happened in a vacuum in those days, families moved together and lived as neighbors. Wouldn't we love to have a sudden epiphany while perusing this list of names!? Thanks to Gerry for working on the Doughty line; maybe some day she will find THE clue.... 3. ALL: Yes, there has been a mail problem with our list. RootsWeb has a server down. It seems they got some, but not all of our back log through, If you go to any RootsWeb internet page and click on the "Help" button at the top, far right, of most pages you'll be taken to a page where such problems are reported. They don't list which list have been out, only that a server for some of the mail list is down with no service date known.
