Marilyn, I have a copy of Reubens military records or pension records. If you need to use them let me know. Also included in the records are court documents stating where Reubens residence was by his second wife and by one of his grandsons in two separate letters. Janet
Marilyn, I believe I have a copy of Reuben's will and maybe a copy of the pension application made by his second wife. I'll do some digging and see what I can find. It may be this weekend before I can do much hunting. I have suspected for some time we wouldn't have the emblem in time. It isn't your fault, it is the way DAR does things. I have already talked to the people doing the marker about our options if it wasn't ready. If we are able to get the marker, it will be attached. If it is after the reunion that's the way it goes. We can't make others do things when we would like for it to be done. Thanks for your efforts. You have done a great job to get this as far as you have. I did give your e-mail address to another woman wanting to join DAR through Reuben. I hope you don't mind. I appeal to you genealogists who have been doing this for years--can you provide the info requested? If not I will start the process of writing to archives, county seats, etc. to try to obtain copies of the original documents we need. They also requested some changes in the letter of permission from Tyger Church, which I will mail to them. The DAR did say they'd allow the info to be inserted in the letter and signed off by any of the church officers, so hopefully that will be no probelm. Please be prepared for I fear the approval for the DAR emblem will not be given in time for the reunion. I am doing all I can, but as I told you early on, I am new to genealogy research and new to DAR, so my skills leave much to be desired. Charlotte, I don't have a Callaway in my Barrett information, but most on mine is limited to one son of Reuben. I have very little on Arthur's family. Gaye, Remember what they said about "For want of a nail a horse was lost!" The same could be said for gravel and the marker. All help is greatly appreciated. I'm sorry you won't be able to make the reunion, you'll be missed. I couldn't find my copy of Reuben's civil war record, but I have copies of two applications. Under service both: Capacity; private - horseman Service; 46 days of duty as horseman from 1st August to 15 Sept 1780, both days inclusive under Capt. Chas Holloway of 20/ to 150 days of duty as a horseman from 16 Sept 1780 to 12 Feb 1781 both days included under Capt. Jim, I would like to get proof of Reuben being in the Revolutionary War,. I would be able to apply for membership if I have the necessary proof. I don't know where to start.I am a descendant of Miles Barrett, the son of John Napoleon Barrett & Elizabeth Watson-Joseph Barrett & Rutha Cabiness Moore were John's parents and Reuben Barrett and Hannah Doty were parents of Joseph Barrett. Mile's daughter, Ollie (Olly) b. June 25,1884 -d.August 09,1965 was my grandmother. She was married to John Hugh Mayes, Sr. b.Feruary 15,1885-d.August 07,1952. Their son John Hugh Mayes,Jr. married Maxine Louise Vernon b.March 25,25,1916-d.May 13,1999.(My mother.)Maxine is a direct descendant of the Bartholomew Stovall lineage . He was a Revolutionary War veteran ,also.Do you or any member of our Barrett Family have any clue as to when and where Miles died and is buried? I don't drive very much and am widowed and a .retired LPN . If anyone could help, it would be deeply appreciated. Thanks from one "cousin" to another. As ever, Gaye
I plan to order the marker the last part of this week. If you have any comments, suggestions, etc. now is the time to make them. I have received enough in donations to cover the first payment which is due when I place the order. We are about $600 short of the final payment. I would hate for the company to take it out in trade. If you have already made you donation in cash, time, or mailings etc. this does not apply to you. For the others, I hate to keep bring this up, but I will have to have additional funds when the marker is accepted and I'm sure this will be done before the reunion. We can't expect the company to set the marker the weekend we are there. It needs to be done in advance. With my luck, if they waited it would rain all week and it would be too wet for them to get into the cemetery. If you haven't made your motel reservations that needs to be done also. I'll be checking on the status of the reservation the first week of March. Only three months left, as of today. I hope to see all of you in Greenville. I know some will not be able to be there. Hi guys, Just wanted to let you know that, while I do mostly just lurk here of late, I do read all of the posts and enjoy them so much. Just in case someone needs to ask me a question or anything, just wanted to let you know that I'll be out of the country for the next week and a half. I have the opportunity to go to Spain - free trip! - so, needless to say, I'm going! I'll catch up on email when I get home. Take good care all, Blessings, dina

This is the response I received from the Editor of the Genealogy column that is syndicated and appears in many Mississippi newspapers, including the Clarion-Ledger daily and the Winston and Neshoba County weekly papers. Hopefully it will generate more interest in the Reunion. --Marilyn ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] ; [email protected] Sent: Friday, February 14, 2003 2:38 PM Subject: Barrett Reunion Dear Marilyn: Frank Brown has forwarded me the information on the upcoming Barrett Reunion. I just wanted to let you know that it should be appearing in the papers within the next week. I hope you have a good turnout! I also checked out the family website and must congratulate all of you for the tremendous effort that has been put into it! Janet has done an amazing job at making it easy to use and in presenting masses of research material clearly and concisely. What a gold mine of information! I hope our readers will spend some time exploring it.....you are almost certain to find some new "cousins" if they do! Let me know how the reunion goes! Thanks for the information! This is from Jim concerning the Barrett DNA project.
More results are in. They prove that three of us all descend from a common Barrett ancestor. The results do not prove who we descend from, but our paper trail does. Two members of the group descend from Reuben's son John. The other member descends from Reuben's son Arthur. With three exact matches we have a good base for the family of Reuben. Any male Barrett who want to find out if he descends from this line can purchase a kit. When their results are back, if they match the three of us they will know that that have a common ancestor with us. Again, this will not prove that they descend from Reuben, only that they have a common ancestor. They still have to find the link. What we don't have is a good base for the family of Arthur Barrett who married Rebecca Barton. Most of us have believed that this Arthur and our Reuben were brothers. We have one sample from Arthur's family. The results from that sample are not close to the three of us who descend from Reuben. We MUST have additional samples from the family of Arthur Barrett and Rebecca Barton to prove anything. If you have any contact with any member of Arthur's family, please encourage them to look for male Barrett descendants and have them to contact me. There are several family trees on the internet for the family of Arthur and Rebecca, but I have not been able to find out who generated these trees. I don't understand why anyone would bother to put their information on the internet and not provide contact information.
