Hi Janet, My family's prayers are with you. After what my mother went through with her brain tumor, I believe in the power of prayer. I believe she is home today because of the many people who prayed for her. A lot of the people did not know her. So keep the faith, and He will be with you. And, yes, I think a Madison County reunion would be fun. Jim Alexander
No ,sorry I didn't know. I just knew I ran over some Barrett's,well not ran over them but when I was looking for the flip side of my mom's ancestor's the Seale's I did see Barrett's in Mississippi. Janet, Please don't loose faith. I know you are scared. My daughter had tumors in both of her breast that results come back benign on Christmas Eve.After doctors misdiagnosed my husband for eighteen months he was an earlier stage three lymphoma hogkins, stage four is fatal. I believe that the strength of my family's faith is why he is cancer free now. Yes there is the technology that is there but I truly believe that prayer is a very strong medicine. If there is anything I can do Bryan is a hop skip to your place. Just let me know. Jack, Hello, it is so nice to hear from you again. I know how involved you are with your church and all and please know that you will be missed at the reunion! Thank you for the kind words, and I thank everyone for helping me to help others. I think that is a great idea to have a reunion for the David Barrett descendants in Madison County!! I would love to hear what the others think about it. I need to ask for some special prayers from everyone. I am going thru a bunch of tests and there is a possibility of breast cancer and uterine cancer. So please please everyone pray for me that everything will turn out ok. I will have two tests done tomarrow, the sonogram on the tumor and a mammogram. So please tomarrow if everyone can say a small prayer for me, I know it will help. God knows my 5 sons need me and I know He will watch over me and my family. But I need my extended families thoughts and prayers also. Love to all, Janet
Hi Gaye, I haven't heard of your McBride - actually, my husband's family is from SE Ohio (Marietta) going back to the late 1700s, then in PA before that - and perhaps Ireland prior to that. I do have some McBrides marrying into MY Kitchens family in MS, too - wish I could figure out where they went! Sorry! dina

Hi Sarah, Welcome to the group. I'm the group grouch, and the administrator for the Barrett DNA project. The grouch, because I keep reminding everyone to make their reservation for the motel, so we'll get our group rate and use of the meeting room, and donations for the marker. Speaking of the marker donations, we now have received $1,315.00. This includes a check received today from Miami without an e-mail. I'm sure you know who you are. Thanks. As for the DNA project, we currently have three descendants from Reuben's family. Two from his son John and one form his son Arthur. All three samples match which gives us a good base for identifying family members. A sample from Joseph's line would make a nice addition and it would also verify your connection. You'll never know how happy I was when the other two samples matched mine. For those of you who haven't visited the DNA web page recently the address is http://www.flash.net/~parino/barrett-family-dna-project.htm . In my dreams I see a sample from each of Reuben's sons. Anyone who what to join can complete an application at http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=Y63652 . This is a two page application with the address for the kit on the first page and the invoice on the second page. This makes it easy for the kit to be sent to one person and the invoice to another. Once again, I want to give a BIG THANK YOU to Marilyn Dowdy for having an announcement published in her area paper. I know we have had several people contact Marilyn and/or the group form that announcement. If you haven't done so it isn't too late to ask you paper to publish and announcement. You might also have an announcement post in your local library. Sarah. Hello it is very nice to meet you. My name is Janet Barrett Walker and I descend from the David Barrett line, and am sort of the organizer of the list and website. although it is all our researcher cousins who make it all possible. I assume you have seen our website? I was looking thru the Reuben Barrett Address Book, which I have recently updated and I see that we have 6 new "cousins" from the Joseph Barrett line in the last month. Steven Mitchell, Sammy Pace, Rev. Travis Fulton, Jean Barrett Blank, Jessica Thompson and Sarah Barrett Everage. Sarah, I list what line each person descends from and I see that Melba Barrett also closely parallels your line. She is also thru William Lafayette Barrett and his son Leonard Everett Barrett. Also thru Utley Pickens we have Theresa Barrett Dueitt, Joyce Sanders, Kathy Creath, and Jessica Thompson..although there are a lot of people who research the Joseph Barrett lines. You will find all the information on the reunion, the marker and the DNA project on the website. If you have any information on your line that you would like to add to Joseph Barrett's webpages please let me know. And I would like to say on behalf of all of us here "Welcome and we all look forward to getting to know you." Janet
Janet, dear friend - Prayers going up on your behalf. Have added you to my prayer list. dina
Janet, You have done a great job in collecting the Barrett information from all of us. I thank you very much for your effort. I wish it was possible for Dede and me to make the Barrett Reunion. Time and commitments prevent it, so be it. Maybe we can have one here in Madison Co. Texas for the John Whitten Barrett branch and any other branches that came to Texas along with John. Hi Ann, My line is Reuben, David, John Whitten, David Albert, William Anthony, and my mother Mildred Barrett Risinger. Since I am fairly new at this I am constantly looking in the census and I ran across a Sandy Barrett in Mississippi a couple months back. It was 1880 Copiah,Miss. You have probably already been that route though.Do you have an idea of his brother' s name and I will keep an eye out. I print all info on Barrett's even though their don't match up to our line. Janet and Karen have done so much for me in there research they are the ones that probably have the answer. Now that we have "new" cousins on the list, I thought I should put out another plea for help on Sandel Barrett. He, somehow, fits into the MS clan. Here are the facts that I can document: Sandel Barrett born: Dec. 26, 1907 died: Nov. 19, 1959 in Columbus, Muscogee County, GA buried: Parkhill Cemetery, Columbus, GA married: Elizabeth Jane (Janie) Smith My father remembers that Sandel was stationed at Ft. Benning, GA. He was a career officer in the U. S. Army. He met and married Janie Smith in Columbus, GA. When he retired from the Army, he remained in Columbus. He died at the military hospital at Ft. Benning. Sandel Barrett had a brother who, possibly (?), lived in LA. His sister was raised in an orphanage in Meridian, MS. When she was 18, she was released from the orphanage & visited her brother in Columbus, GA. She returned to live either with her other brother or in Meridian, MS. From what my father can remember, Sandel's parents must have died in the early to mid 1930s. I do not know the names of his parents or his siblings. If any of you know how this Sandel Barrett fits into our puzzle, will you please email me? I'd like to give this Barrett cousin a "home" in my data base. Thanks, Ann (Smith) Cummings
