Unless we have the DAR emblem in time to have it attached to the stone before it is delivered we won't know if we'll have any extra money or not. People who will not be at the reunion have donated to the marker fund. I don't think it is fair to ask that part of their money be used to pay for our food. We must make a donation to the church. This has nothing to do with our beliefs. They have been kind to us, they are allowing us to building for lunch Sunday. When we originally thought about having one of our own speak at the Sunday service. There was no question on their part as to this persons faith. We owe them. I still don't think this donation should come for the extra marker money, if there is any. We need to take up a collection for this. How many years has someone been providing care to the cemetery were our ancestors are buried? If there is any extra money I think it should go to a fund for the care of the cemetery. This isn't going to the cost of the marker, which was the intent of the donations, but it would be going to the care of the marker. I'm sure there is a cemetery fund. It may or may not be through the church. I suggest that we take up an additional collection for this fund, extra money if any, can be donated later. This is my opinion with my reasons. The money belongs to the group not to me. The group needs to speak. Jim Barrett Bedford, TX [email protected]
When counting people remember that there are those who live in the area, those staying in motels other than the base motel, and those who may just drop by. I am aware of several families who plan to make the trip in RVs. There I suspect we will have well over 30 families. I hope the activity committee is busy with plans. Jim, Great job!!! It is wonderful the way everyone has come thru on everything we have planned. Wow!! 20 people, we are going to have a great turnout. I am just about to burst with enthusiasm. I want to mention to everyone we still need someone to meet the Marker people at the cemetery. It has not been scheduled so if we can find someone in Greenville to do it, they can schedule a time that is convenient for them. Jim will send you the check to give to them..so all it will take is just an hour or two out of your day to make sure the writing is OK on the headstone and make sure they put it in the right place. It doesn't have to be the week of the reunion, it can be done at your convience....we can contact the church and ask someone from there to take care of it but Jim would rather one of us do it, so we don't have to bother them. If someone who lives in Greenville or near Greenville can do this for all of us it would be so appreciated. Please contact either me or Jim as soon as possible so we will know if we need to make other arrangements and Jim will have time to get the check in the mail. Got it. Jim Alexander
Rosemary, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! Your such a sweetheart!! Can you get together with Jim please since he knows all the information you need and needs to mail you the check. I am sure he will be e-mailing you. Thanks Again...it looks like we are all set for the reunion now. Who was it that was taking care of the food? Karen and who? Or what did we decide on that? The reason I am asking is to try to see if there is anything else we need to do before the reunion. Jim, The church never contacted me back about a speaker on that Sunday, did they get back with you? I believe we still need someone to speak at the service on Sunday don't we? If we don't have anyone attending that can do it then we need to make sure the church knows. I know we have someone to sing... Any thoughts from anyone? Janet P.S. Looks like the list is working ok now...sorry for any problems anyone had.
Jim, I also had two long sessions without any messages. It seemed they arrived finally all at once after a long pause. Pat Crawford

Janet, I think using the extra funds for the reunion food is a good idea. I also think it might be a good idea to make a donation to the Tyger Church, since they are being very generous in allowing us to have our memorial service there. Marilyn Dowdy

In a message dated 4/1/03 8:04:36 AM, [email protected] writes: << Taliban authorities will cut off America's supply of convenience store managers.>> It IS funny; but when we were trying to sell our stores, the only people who wanted to buy convenience stores in small towns were the Pakistanis, who, of course, wanted you to give them away. We were really worried about how our long-time employees would be treated and whether these people would "give back" to the community through community service, which had been one of our priorities. We were pleased when we finally were able to sell to a local person. We do have to think, though, of the other side of the coin: it will take a generation or two, and the descendants of these people will be "Americans." That's what America is all about; hey, two of my grandparents were immigrants! I can't fault these new immigrants for wanting to claim the American Dream for themselves and their families. We are the consummate Melting Pot, and I wouldn't have it any other way! Kuz Karen
I thought it was funny, too. I was just giving Janet a hard time. I know what you are talking about. When we sold our cleaners in Galveston and relocated to Bryan we were approached by numerous people of different cultures and they do want to play let's make a deal. We too were able to sell to a local family who had been in the same business as ourselves. What is sad is that in those countries over there they treat the women so poorly and my biggest worry was I had customers that I had had for fifteen years that would not take kindly to their treatment of females. I say this from experience of watching a woman nine months pregnant standing over a press with temperatures of at 120 degrees and it was not by choice but because it was demanded of her. To all; If their are left over funds I see nothing wrong with it going toward the group. When we did fund raiser for my daughter's softball out of state tournaments we would use the additional funds for the team players and in a sense the ones who are able to go are our team players because they are going to get to gather information for all of us and for those of us who can not attend we will get to see all they see through their yes.
