Ken, Two years ago I self published a book called Descendants of Reuben Barrett 1755 to 2000 , it is over 500 pages. I was getting so many orders that it was hard to keep up with printing them as I didn't make any profit from the books. I only charged what it cost me for the supplies to print them. I decided to turn it over to a publisher, Higginson Books. I mailed the transcript in December of 2002. and I hadn't heard from them until the other day, when I sent them an e-mail to see how much longer it would be. Evidentley the woman who I was working with had quit working there and there still wasn't even a file made on my book. The new lady has taken it over and now hopefully it will be ready soon. They said that if I get 10 orders I can get the books cheaper if they are bought thru me rather than the company. So I start making a list and when they are ready I will contact everyone who wants one. Let me know how many you want. There is also two other books I did, unfortunatley I have lost the David Barrett out of my datas base and need to recover it...then there is the address book. Janet

Hello Janet, I assume the book referred to is a new issue or reissue of an earlier one. In any event I would like to have several of any new items coming out and a copy of the first also. Ken Cypress, TX. PS; are you going to the reunion as I plan and hope?
Hi Janet, Yes, I have been receiving the messages and yes a token to the care of the cemetery is a good idea. Thank you for the hard work Sydney
I received it. Jim, As one who has donated to the fund, but, regrettably, not be able to make it to the reunion due to my son's graduation, I suggest that the extra monies be kept in reserve for the unknown emblem costs. Then, if left over, donated to the cemetery fund. R/Steven ........................................... People who will not be at the reunion have donated to the marker fund. I don't think it is fair to ask that part of their money be used to pay for our food. We must make a donation to the church. This has nothing to do with our beliefs. They have been kind to us, they are allowing us to building for lunch Sunday. When we originally thought about having one of our own speak at the Sunday service. There was no question on their part as to this persons faith. We owe them. I still don't think this donation should come for the extra marker money, if there is any. We need to take up a collection for this. How many years has someone been providing care to the cemetery were our ancestors are buried? If there is any extra money I think it should go to a fund for the care of the cemetery. This isn't going to the cost of the marker, which was the intent of the donations, but it would be going to the care of the marker. I'm sure there is a cemetery fund. It may or may not be through the church. I suggest that we take up an additional collection for this fund, extra money if any, can be donated later. This is my opinion with my reasons. The money belongs to the group not to me. The group needs to speak. Jack, As soon as I hear back from them on the book I will let you know. I know they are donating two copies to the Library of Congress. I will try donating to Madison County Library and the one in Houston. And I love the way you sign your name... Hugs, Janet
Hi Kathy, Have you been to the web site and seen Janet's update on Hannah's and Sudduth's children. Their daughter Mary added another Pickens to the group. Thanks for the joke. I was wondering what had happened to the messages I usually receive from the Barrett newsgroup. I do enjoy reading the messages and lurking. I have not been researching any of my family names lately, so I enjoy reading about how people in the group are able to solve genealogy mysteries. My Barrett line is through my mom, Loree Cremeen, granddaughter of Ida Barrett Cremeen, daughter of Pickens Taylor Barrett, etc. Back to lurking, Kathy Creath
I also have received your mail. Bob Bowman
Janet, Please advise the price of your book. I would like one for my family records. Have we placed a book in the Madison County Heritage Society library? How about one in the Anderson-Clayton Library here in Houston? I usually sign my messages. Your friend in Christ. Hello All, Heres the tentative schedule it is all up in the air so if anyone has any ideas or suggestions please let me know...I decided the activity committee is all of us who are going and if anyone who isn't going has any suggestions that would be great too. May 23, 2003, Friday afternoon/evening: Registration at Quality Inn, 50 Orchard Park Dr., Greenville (Map attached). We can check into meeting in the meeting room when we get all settled. May 24 - Saturday: Research, visiting area where Barrett's lived, and Saturday evening: Swapping stories at the hotel and getting to know each other. Maybe all go out to dinner together dutch.?? May 25 - Sunday: Church Services at Tyger Baptist Church where Reuben Barrett attended church with his family, with a guest pastor, a Barrett ancestor - Dina's husband was going to do this but they had to cancel...does anyone have any ideas? I have one but wanted to see if anyone else had any. Over at 12 Noon May 25 - Sunday: Family Meal, visit Tyger Church Cemetery, dedication of marker How about 3 PM?? , Visiting at the Church and Quality Inn. We have a man who will sing at the dedication and I will say a few words..maybe read a poem. Any more suggestions? Anyone who dedicated to the Marker fund, if they have something they would like read or done at the dedication ceremony one of us who will be there will do it for you. If you would like to send flowers for the graves you can have them delivered to the church. May 26 (Memorial Day) - Monday: Library Research, Show and Tell and Wrapping Things Up Hugs, Janet
Hi Jim, I think that a donation to the cemetery fund is a great idea. I will also be happy to make a donation to the church. Jim Alexander

Thanks for your good thoughts and level head, Marilyn. I would also suggest that we think about making a donation to the local genealogy and local history department of the public library, or to Furman University archives and library (where the Baptist records are housed), with the specification that it be used to purchase research materials and/or to preserve local history. We can all afford to chip in a few dollars for our own lunch, don't you think? Karen
Jim, Yes I remember, I think it is all straightned out now. Janet
I got it, Janet. Thanks.
