I wanted to share the e-mail below with the list. Lee Barrett and his father Harry descend from Arthur Barrett and Rebecca Barton. They plan to attend the reunion. A friend of Lee has made a very interesting offer. I don't know why, but I told my dad and I will forward all that I receive to you and my dad also. I don't really have to time to answer a lot of e-mails. I'm not sure that the newsletter will generate a lot of questions anyway. I'm getting more anxious to go to our Barrett reunion. My dad and I are planning on being there Friday afternoon and staying until Monday afternoon. I have a history teacher friend by the name of Perry Barrett who should be coming and he has volunteered his knowledge of The Battle of Cowpens and Kings Mountain to be a tour guide if anyone would like to take a short trip up to see that area around Greenville. These were two important battles in the Revolutionary War and they are close to the Greenville area. Reuben Barrett might have fought in these battles since he was a Revolutionary War vet. Gaye & Sarah, Ludlow in Scott Co., MS is right on the edge of Madison CO., where Reuben G. Barrett lived, which might make it likely that could be the one you're looking for. Sarah, The one I'm interested in I think is in Madison County. I have a listing but it doesn't give the name of the nearest town. Lol. Gaye
Sarah, Which Barrett was your mother married to? Would she happen to remember Miles & Lula Irby Barrett??These are my great-great grandparents. They are buried ast Poplar Grove Cemetery off the Linn Road. Miles' daughter, Olly. was my grandmother and was born and raised in Boyle, Bolivar County. She and her husband, John Hugh Mayes,Sr. are buried in Hasley Cemetery, West Monroe,Ouachita Pasrish, Louisiana. Thanks so much for your help. LOL.Gaye
Sarah, Thats good advice, that what I do also. Most of the time they will make copies of all the cemeteries for you. Hugs, Janet
Gayle, my mother just called me back and said that there is another Good Hope Cemetery in Scott County. The one I gave you directions to is in Neshoba County. Anyway, according to Mother some Barretts are buried at the one in Scott County. She said that she went to a funeral there once. I bet this is the one you're interested in. She said that it is in the Ludlow community of Scott County. She said that Uncle Lee Barrett, that's one of William Lafayett (Bud) Barrett's sons, moved his family there and some of that group were buried there. Also, my grandfather, Oscar Harrison Barrett, lived there for a few years....near his brother, Lee. While there, my grandfather and grandmother had a son who died in infancy. He is buried at the Good Hope Cemetery at Ludlow. If you are really interested in finding the cemetery, call the main funeral home in Forest, Mississippi (main town in Scott County) and they will be able to tell you where it is. Forest is a small town. I doubt that there is more than one or two funeral homes. That's the way I've found cemeteries when I didn't know where they were. Good luck, Sarah Barrett Everage
Gayle, my Mother says that Good Hope Church and cemetery is off of Hwy 15 between Philadelphia and Union. She says to go down Hwy 15, from Philadelphia toward Union, for about 4-5 miles and turn right at an intersection. I think you could ask anyone along there where to turn. The Church is only a 1/4 to 1/2 mile off Hwy 15. She said it's a big cemetery and some parts are old. She doesn't know if any Barretts are buried there, but wouldn't be surprised if there were. She said Barrett relatives lived down that way. Some Barrett relatives, Andrew Rhodes for example, were buried at Linwood......that's on down highway 15. Mother is my main source of information, and she is only a Barrett by marriage, but she has a great memory....will be 90 this summer. Sarah Barrett Everage
Janet, my mother is from Kosciusko, but she lives in Philadelphia (Neshoba County). I rarely go to Kosciusko (Attala county). All our family there has died. We still have land there. I live in Alabama, but if I get back there, I'll get some pictures of the headstones. Probably, someone in that area will have the opportunity before I get back there. Sarah Barrett Everage
Sarah, Is there a listing or enumeration for this cemetery??If so, where and is it online? Perhaps you can tell mw where Good Hope Church Cemetery(the onw=w where numerous related families are buried. Thank you so much, Gaye M. Hall
Sarah, Do you live in that area? If so if you want to take a picture of it I would be happy to put it on the website with the Barrett names that are buried there. We have a section on the Barrett Branches website that is for Mississippi. I know Steven Mitchell has been doing alot of research pertaining to MS cemeteries lately. I also have several census indexes for Neshoba Co., MS that I hope to eventually put on there. There are already some there that Tracie Hoines did a few years ago, also some cemetery listings. Hugs, Janet
I have been reading about the interest in Barretts buried in various cemeteries in Mississippi and remembered that there are several Barretts buried in the Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery in Attala County.....a few miles out of Kosciusko toward Vaiden. I don't know if they are our Barretts. I saw the markers when I was researching my Mother's family. If anyone is interested in going to that site, it is the old campground Methodist church, one of the oldest in the county. If you go, you'll enjoy your visit. Bethel Methodist Church is one of the most beautiful old country churches you will find. Sarah Barrett Everage

WTC Survivor Virus is a hoax. Do not forward to anyone. You can read about it at http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/wtc.htm
Don't be sorry , if not for the warnings there would be a lot of damage caused by the individuals who have nothing better to do than damage someone's personal property.
