Ann, Thank you for your advice and information. I haven't yet, but have any Barrett researchers attempted to ascertain who the caretakers/superintendents are of some of the purported cemeteries that Joseph is alleged to be interred. If so, do those caretakers/superintendents have the old cemetery records in their possession that may reveal those interred but with markers that are lost to the ages? I have had [a little] success over the years uncovering the individuals that hold these records and have found an ancestor or two that way. Then again, they may be buried under a tree on their old property and forever lost....... I will use the information you have given us .....you never know what kind of clue is hidden there. Thank you. R/Steven ........................................... My files contain Joseph's land deed description which was in Township 11North-Range 13East, Choctaw Baseline and Meridian, Section 9. Can't give a complete description without pulling out more papers. Not important anyway. The East Half of the Southwest Quarter of Section Nine, T11-R13E (approx 80 acres) went to Rutha's son William M. Moore in a Deed of Conveyance, 27 July 1855 (Deed Bk J-310, Neshoba Co, MS). The Neshoba County sheriff on 31 Dec 1853 auctioned this land to highest bidder at the Court House door, WILLIAM M. MOORE, son of Rutha Cabaniss Moore Barrett. I think this indicates that Rutha died in 1853. David Barrett was her Administrator. Later William M. and wife sold the land to Albert Kelly. Some comments by Rev. John S. Moore, Rutha's descendant follow:Letter to Ann T. Lila, August 17, l993. "Since I was 19 I have been researching my family history and have not been able to go before William M. Moore and his mother. The dates on her tombstone a! re: 'b. May 11, 1829, d. August 26, 1887.'" ... "So far as I know, RUTHA BARRETT was buried in Neshoba County. She died a good while before the family moved to Yazoo County. I would presume Rutha was buried in Neshoba alongside Joseph Barrett." "I have searched the Barrett lines for years and have helped many of those researching this family, but have not been able to pinpoint Mary Elizabeth Barrett's parents." Rev. Moore mentioned in one letter to Ann Lila that he had been to Ray Burton's store at Center searching for info on Joseph and Rutha. Ann learned nothing from Ray or his wife Charlotte when she went there and talked with them later about 1994/95. They suggested seeing Mr. Cheatham who is now deceased. My opinion is that Joseph was buried not too far from his homeplace. Remember not many cemeteries (if any) existed in 1840 for white settlers of Neshoba County. Graves were generally marked by native rock or whatever was available. If any of you ! discover a grave location for Joseph or Rutha, please let me know for I would really like to know. Ann, Did you see the recent information that Gerry found? Concerning William M. Moore and Mary Elizabeth, (1850 Neshoba) living next door to a family of "Deborahs." I may have told you few years back that Rev. Moore said she was a "red-headed" Barrett but I had some family notes from Charles Micajah Moore, his son, that a Mrs. Ellis who was his granddaughter, said her mother said Mary Elizabeth was a DeBrow. I don't know if she was a DeBrow who married a Barrett then William M. Moore or a Barrett who married a DeBrow then William M. By the way, did you ever correspond with Rev. Moore since we found out about the Choctaw testimonies? He had told me he didn't know about Choctaws if any, they were Cherokees. Neither did Dr. Allen Cabaniss when I talked to him before his death. It seems there is something here in the "DeBrow", "Deborahs" family. I believe there is an older member of the DeBrows living in the Moore family. Wonder how this all fits in?? Bob Bowman

Oops, sorry I thought that was going to your e-mail and not the list. Hugs, Janet
Rosemary, I am sorry I was waiting to let you now what time I would arrive, but yes if it wouldn't be to much trouble for you I would really appreciate it. I have been looking for some flights the last couple of days. I also was wondering if you would be able to drop me off at the airport on Tuesday night too. I wanted to stay until Tuesday so that I can go to the courthouse and the library while I am there. Can you tell me when a convenient time for you would be on Tuesday? The one I was thinking about I would arrive in GSP at 3:05pm on the 22nd and leave at 8:05pm on the 27th. I didn't know if you would have to work on Tuesday, and I wanted to spend the day in Greenville. If this isn't convenient for you there is another one where I arrive at 3:05pm on the 22nd and I leave at 3:40pm on the 27th, but that one doesn't give me much research time on that Tuesday. I don't want to impose on you at all. How is your weekend looking so far? Do you think you may be able to at least come to the Saturday night meeting at the hotel? Or to the Memorial Service on Sunday? I would really hate for you to have to miss the whole thing. You have been such an important part of planning this whole thing and we couldn't have done it without you. I know more than one person who would like to thank you in person. In fact, Karen sent me an e-mail last night asking me to ask you to make sure and try to be there that it is very important to her for you to try to be there. I believe she is planning on trying to give out some certificates and has one for you too. If the flight times are OK with you then I will go ahead and make my reservations with Northwest. Thank you for everything and I am really looking forward to meeting you in person. Hugs, Janet
Janet I never heard from you; would you like for me to pick you up at the airport that Thurs? Rosemary Hayes Greenville
