Jim, I placed my order directly with Family Tree DNA with Darenn (Darin?), who said he would contact you so I can be added to the Barrett project. He gave me Kit number 140947 for y-DNA 37 at the $119 price. I told him that my known ancestor was Eleazer Barrett. Thanks, Stephen P. Markers 13 - 67 have been added to kit 130822. For the 67 markers he is a genetic distance of 1 from kit 4587. The most recent common ancestor for these two kits died in 1814. The line for kit 4587 descends from a son born in 1784 and the line for kit 130822 descends from a son born in 1798. In case you have forgotten kit 4587 belongs to me. Thanks. Hi, I,m not sure if this is the place to post, but I recently had my mtdna done. I am at a brickwall and my last ancestor I have is an Azubah Barrett born about 1794 in Vermont. I have yet to find who her parents were. From census reports it states her parents were born in Connecticut. My results showed the following Haplogroup H 152C 257G 263G 315.1C 16304C I am wondering if anyone matches this? Leslie Freeman
Leslie, Nothing wrong with posting here. The problem with mtDNA is that the surname could change ever generation. Who were you tested by? I know that Family Tree DNA will compare your results to others in their database. You can post your results to the public database mitosearch and compare against people tested by different companies. See http://www.mitosearch.org/ . Kit 130822 has benn added with makers 1 - 12 and HVR1 and HVR2. I have a personal interest in this kit as he is a fifth cousin (more or less) of mine. We are an exact match on the 12 markers. To add to my excitement he is the only other SC-1 to have a 67 marker test ordered. Thanks. Most governments already have a much larger DNA database than all of the genetic genealogy companies put together. They have already collected a lot through military services and law enforcement. As for our samples in the genetic genealogy data based no one really knows where they came from. No one saw me collect my sample. No one saw me mail my sample. I haven't committed a crime where my DNA would be of any value and I don't plan to so I have nothing to hide. If something happens and the government wants my DNA I'll bet they'll come and get it rather than checking all of the genetic genealogy databases to see if they can find one that has a sample from me. Watch the news. What do you hear about DNA. Most of the time DNA has been used to prove the a person wasn't involved in a crime not that they were. It can be used to prove a possible connection but they have to have a lot more evidence. I'm think people who use that reason for not providing it don't understand. If the government gets to the point where they can force the companies to release their data we have a lot more to worry about than that. Markers 38 - 67 have been added to kit 12601. Please note that he has a value of zero for DYS425. I believe this is our first null value. The following is copied from his myFTDNA website: "***A value of “0” for any marker indicates that the lab reported a null value or no result for this marker. All cases of this nature are retested multiple times by the lab to confirm their accuracy. Mutations causing null values are infrequent, but are passed on to offspring just like other mutations, so related male lineages such as a father and son would likely share any null values." Kit ANC01 has been added. This kit is from Ancestry.com. He had a 46 marker test. I have included only the markers that Ancestry.com and FTDNA (in their 67 marker test) use. FTDNA will test the additional markers for those who wish to have them reported. At this time I'm not including the additional markers on the website, but that can change. Thanks.
