If you have ordered the new Family Finder test PLEASE be sure to go to the user preference section of your "myFTDNA" website and enter your ancestral names.  FTDNA will try to do some surname matching for you and will highlight similar names for you.  It will also help your matches.  FTDNA doesn't provide much (any) guidance as to how you should enter your names and the country but you might want to look at https://www.familytreedna.com/faq/answers/default.aspx?faqid=17#820    Don't cheat yourself.  Help others help you.   Even if you haven't ordered Family Finder you might want to fill in the surname section.  You never know when FTDNA will add something that could use the information.  EVERYONE should complete the information in the USER PREFERENCE section and in the Plot Ancestral Locations section. Dale & All,   When you go to your 'myFTDNA" website you will see several major headings in the left hand column.  Everyone should see My Account, My Maps and Tools.  Depending upon which test(s) you have ordered you may see Family Finder, Y-DNA and/or mtDNA.  Under each of these last you should see Matches.  This link will take you to your matches for the heading it is under.   Remember, YOU control which matches you and others see.  Under the My Account heading you'll find User Preferences.  By clicking on it you are taking to a page where you can set several different things.  If you haven't visited this page lately you might want to look at it.  Several things have changed or been added.  You are able to elect to see only matches against other project members or the entire database.  Then, depending upon which test(s) you have taken you'll have other options.  For Y-DNA you can elect to see or omit matches for each panel.  If you elect to omit 12 marker matches then no one will see you as a 12 marker match.  If you elect to see 12 marker matches everyone in the project who has also elected to see 12 marker matches and who has a match with you will see you.  If you restrict your matches to the project no one outside of the project will see you.   I hope all of you elect to see matches in the entire database as this can help those who don't know their family history.  If this gives you too many matches omit 12 marker matches.  I have some people in my Powell project who have hundreds of 12 marker matches.    Dale,   You have three exact 12 marker matches, two of which are Barrett.  You have two exact 25 marker matches, both with Barrett.  You have two 37 marker matches, both with Barrett and both a genetic distance of two. And you are shown the name and e-mail address for these two people.  Right now you don't have and 67 marker matches, but neither of you 37 marker matches have 67 marker results.   If you look at our website it isn't too hard to determine the kit numbers for these two matches.  I suggest the three of you work together to see if your ancestors or their relatives where ever in the same area at the same time.  If they have been able to find their common ancestor it would be a strong indication of your connection to the Barrett family.   All,   If you look at Dale's message you'll see his surname isn't Barrett.  All of his matches beyond 12 markers are.
