GOOD NEWS! FTDNA's full time, paid IT staff has updated their public webs pages. If you have received your results for an upgrade to 111 markers they should be displaying now. I believe this only applies to one Powell project members at this time. More results for both projects are pending. There was one new member to the Powell project. When I added him to his sub-group his results disappeared. He is now in the correct group with his results. BAD NEWS! My part time, unpaid IT staff has not added the new columns to our project web pages so 68-111 markers are not being displayed at this time. I'll try to light a fire under him. I live at the edge of Louisville Kentucky in Bullitt county. I have a old farm house that we are redoing in Russell county. That is not to far from Laurel county where they moved from Buncombe county. I am planning on traveling some when the old house is liveble. I talked to a woman yesterday who is a Barrett and lives in Laurel county. She said that she does not know a lot of history, but has friends in the genelogy branch of the libary. She is going to get them started on looking for info. The family farm is right down the road from her house and has been in the family for over 100 years. It is on Sinking Creek road where the Barrett's and a couple of other people started Sinking Creek Baptist Church which was one of the first Baptist church's in Kentucky. The local geneolgy guys that i talk to here say that we should really be proud of the Barrett's and Arrowood's familys. Both of them were really early settlers in N.C. and Ky. I am still looking to contact a man named Mullins in Laurel co. he has a lot of info. His family married Barrett women and that is where they started the kinship with Barrett's. Good luck on your trip. I will wait to hear from you again. ----- Original Message ----- From: Anne Barrett <rambarrett@cox.net> Date: Saturday, April 23, 2011 13:12 Subject: Re: [BARRETT-DNA] Message for Kit#51903, BARRETT Branch GA-2 - John Howard BARRETT To: barrett-dna@rootsweb.com > Thanks, Gale, for this valuable info. Thanks, Gale, for this valuable info. I wasn't able to link to the site you mentioned by clicking on it but I will try other ways today. The writer (Melissa Barrett) contacted me some time ago and we have worked through the lineage to some degree. I am going to check out that 1800 Newberry Census info. The George, John and William probably is our family (the spelling of Barrett with an "o" was probably a census taker's error). The James, Rachel and Jacob Barrett probably belong to another "huge" Barrett family in the area at the time (Reuben Barrett). So far I've found no connections between the two. Since all of this is still pretty disjointed to me, I need some time to sort. Your comment about Adair County, KY is curious because one of George's brothers decided not to go to Indiana after they left SC and instead he went to KY. So there is some connection there. Lo and behold, I made a telephone call last evening to a Paul Barrett who lives in Santa Barbara, CA (we live in Oceanside, CA) and find that he is descended from Thomas, son of George and Ruth while Rich, my husband, is descended from Nathaniel, another son of George and Ruth. Finally -- a real relative and the closest DNA match we have. I think he was one of the first Barrett's to send in DNA. We'll be meeting him somewhere halfway in the next week and sharing information. Where do you live, Gale? I forgot the question. My William was never in Ga. that i know of. I have talked to Barrett's from Ga. and they are in Towns or Townes Ga. I also have Arrowood's from Nc. in my tree and they also are in that area. It seems that moved around together some. A laura Lee Barrett sent me a message about her family and she thinks her Grandfather David and William were brothers. John Barrett was their father, he was from Va. My William Barrett was on the 1800 census in Buncombe County Nc. He and his sons with their family's moved to Laurel County KY. next. One of William's grandsons moved to Indiana after he got out of the civil war. I always wondered why the move to Indiana, then i found out that for some reason he was in a outfit from Ind. in the war. Other son's and grandson's moved to Adair county KY. That was where i was born. William and some of them moved to BigSprings Texas but moved back after a couple of years. My grandfather left my grandmother and moved to Ind. with one son. The family members moved back and forth from Indy. for years. Hope this helps you some. Let me know if you find out anything. ---- Original Message ----- From: Anne Barrett <rambarrett@cox.net> Date: Thursday, April 21, 2011 15:57 Subject: [BARRETT-DNA] Message for Kit#51903, BARRETT Branch GA-2 - John Howard BARRETT To: BARRETT-DNA-L@rootsweb.com > Because I am descended from George Barrett (SC-10)(Kit #177306) > born South Carolina 1776, I think we may have something > important to share. I will have to check where big springs, tx. is .....my barrett line ....all I know is: according to 1850 jackson par., La. census george w. barret born 1784 nc married to a sarah unkn (possibly roberts) war of 1812 mississippi 1813 marion co., ms. juror's list and tax list can not located on 1820 1830 lawrence co ms 1840 catahoula par., la 1850 jackson par., La. he and sarah probably died after 1850 can not locate on 1860 census... 1870 most of the siblings....moved to tx. denton, parker, hill, nacogdoches, shelby, smith, and McLennan counties tx. others stayed in La. in winn, grant and catahoula par., La. 1 son stayed in copiah co., ms. then by 1880 moved to winn or either grant par., La. my uncle died in his 90's and he was the only one that could give me any info .... he always stated that Richard "Dick" Nelson married Marguerite Barrett well, on all the census she is listed as St.Helena Barrett they married 1842 Caldwell Par., La. I have no proof that these are the siblings of george w. barrett but I would bet on the older ones being his children and the younger ones could possibly be grand children but also sarah could be a 2nd wife .... the older children were born around 1808 - 1818 south carolina possibly newberry or edgefield.... milly married a john aaron/s delila married john dunn midberry married william dunn salathiel married a nancy myles (no info at all only marriage record) george henry married sarah honea younger children nathaniel married mary ann "polly" lyons st.helena married richard nelson (my line) sarah married marion c. wheat mahala married william bailey - baley( 2 different spellings) bethena married thomas honea bathsheba (also bashala) married james edward lyons I think this is all the children I have a website with all my info: Nelson - Barrett from Jackson Par., La. thanks for your info I will check it out gale cole creel ----- Original Message ----- From: Ernest Barrett<mailto:1942dodge@insightbb.com> To: barrett-dna@rootsweb.com<mailto:barrett-dna@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 21, 2011 5:14 PM Subject: Re: [BARRETT-DNA] Message for Kit#51903, BARRETT Branch GA-2 - John Howard BARRETT My William Barrett was on the 1800 census in Buncombe County Nc. Because I am descended from George Barrett (SC-10)(Kit #177306) born South Carolina 1776, I think we may have something important to share. As I see it, your John Howard Barrett must have descended from someone that we both have in common. Currently, I am trying to prove that my George’s parents were Nathaniel and Abigail Barrett because those names are prevalent in my descending family. Nathaniel Barrett was a soldier in Pickens Brigade in South Carolina during the Revolutionary War. I do have documentation that George had a brother, William, that had a ship or ships in Charleston Harbor in the period after the Revolutionary War. These ships were ordered to be burned by the “government” due to pestilence. William then leaves South Carolina with George and his family to go to Indiana -- with a detour to Virginia. Does any of this sound like it could fit into your history? One of my questions to you is, “What information do you have to place your John Howard Barrett in Georgia and where in Georgia?” I haven’t been able to relocate it, but I remember finding a Nathaniel Barrett in some court document near the border of Georgia and South Carolina in this time period. Please contact me off-list at Rambarrett@cox.net. Richard Barrett

It looks like FTDNA has reduced their required number of likes from 12,000 to 10,000 to have a special promotion on April 15. They are still over 200 short. If you want to see this sale I suggest you have all of your Facebook friends go like FTDNA - http://www.facebook.com/#!/FamilyTreeDNA I'll let you know if I see anything, BUT I'm busy Friday so don't count on me for this notice. You'll need to watch their Facebook page on your own. I can't tell you where you'll be able to see what is on sale but I'd suggest you check your own "myFTDNA" website and check orders and upgrades. Also check our normal new order page: Barrett - https://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?code=Y63652&Group=Barrett Powell - https://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?code=E35819&Group=Powell Jim Barrett - Timpson, TX Please Help Benjaman Kyle http://jpbdna.com/bkyle.htm Barrett Surname DNA Project http://jpbdna.com/barrett-family-dna-project.htm Powell Surname DNA Project http://jpbdna.com/powell-surname-dna-project.htm
As far as I know there are three ways to order Y-DNA111. 1) New customers can use the following link: https://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?code=Y63652&Group=Barrett 2) Existing customers who have already tested to 67 markers can go to their myFTDNA website, click on "Order Test & Upgrades" in the left hand column, click on "GO TO STANDARD ORDERS", click on the down arrow at the right hand end of the "Product" box and select the Y-Refine67to111. 3) Existing customers who have NOT already tested to 67 markers can follow #2 but must first upgrade to 67 markers and return later to upgrade to 111. Frankly, I won't order anything until April 15th. On April 15th use the above steps between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM Texas time. Any price shown in red is a sales price. The last time they had a sale based on the number of FTDNA Facebook likes it only lasted 24 hours. I'm not sure of the times for that sale but the above should work.
