    1. Re: [BARRETT-DNA] FTDNA - Y-DNA "Third Party" Uploads.
    2. Robert T Barrett
    3. Hi Joe and Jeannette, My name is Robert Barrett and I can trace my Barrett line back to North Carolina where a Patience Barrett purchased land in her name in 1765 in Cumberland County. Family legend through multiple NC Barrett lines states that our Barretts came from Ireland - unfortunately, no one, so far, has been able to document that. Fairly early on the Cumberland/Moore County NC Barretts married into the Cagle (Kegel), Stutts, and Frye families which came down the Great Wagon Road from Pennsylvania through Virginia and into North Carolina. I wondered how early your Barretts immigrated from County Mayo to Scranton? There were Quaker Barretts that moved down into the Shenandoah Valley in the early 1700s from Pennsylvania and became part of the Hopewell Community there. Alexander Ross, one of the founders was Irish as was Morgan Bryan, the other founder. Morgan Bryan moved south to NC after his wife's death and his granddaughter married Daniel Boone who's parents were also Quakers. So we think it likely that our Barrett line also migrated south but, to date, have no proof. Best regards, Robert Barrett ________________________________________ From: barrett-dna-bounces@rootsweb.com [barrett-dna-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Joe & Jeannette McAndrew [jmcandrew@cox.net] Sent: Friday, August 05, 2011 7:00 PM To: barrett-dna@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [BARRETT-DNA] FTDNA - Y-DNA "Third Party" Uploads. My dad's best friend was John Barrett who operated a gas station in North Scranton. If you can trace your roots to Scranton, you might find what amounts to an Irish village there. Scranton is a sister city with Ballina, Ireland. I received the following message from FTDNA this morning. I have always accepted data from other companies into our project and now FTDNA is doing it also. If you tested with another company or if you now someone who did please pass this on. PLEASE - read the FAQs using the link in their message. Dear Project Administrator, We are pleased to announce the launch of a new feature we hope will benefit your projects: Y-DNA "Third Party" uploads. This will allow for the upload of 33 and 46-marker Y-DNA test results from Ancestry, GeneTree and Sorensen's SMGF. This was a natural development since the necessary tools were created to import the DNA Heritage database after they ceased operations. While the DNA Heritage transfer is free of charge as a result of that acquisition, we will be charging a nominal fee of $19 per person to import third party results into Family Tree DNA. This $19 fee will be credited to customers who order upgrades or add-ons. For an additional $39, customers who transfer their third party results will also have additional markers tested so that they can receive matches to Family Tree DNA's 25 or 37-marker level, ancestral origins, and other features of the personal page. Please forward the following link to those who may be interested in ordering the Third Party transfer: http://www.familytreedna.com/landing/ydna-transfer.aspx What do you get when you transfer third party results? The $19 fee will provide the customer with a Family Tree DNA personal page which will allow them to join Family Tree DNA projects freely. This means results will be available to the administrator and included on the project's public page for comparison with other project members. The $58 fee ($19 transfer fee + $39 for the added markers to Family Tree DNA's 25 or 37-marker level) will include the same features provided to Family Tree DNA customers in their personal pages. For any additional questions related to Third Party transfer, please refer to our FAQ section for help. As always, thank you for your continued support. Thanks. Thanks.
