    3. All of my websites were moved sometime ago because AT&T decided to stop providing free space.  As a result, one of our members provided us with space at GODADDY.   Yes the old Barrett Surname DNA Project website is now at http://jpbdna.com/barrett-family-dna-project.htm which is a private website thus allowing us to include people who tested at sites other than FTDNA.  There is no subscription fee for any of my sites and FTDNA does not charge a subscription fee for any of their sites, including the sites they set up for each customer. 3. Hello Jim, (Jim Barrett, Timpson, TX.) I was happy to receive your message entitled "Giving Back". You are so right in what you said. Your message made me sit back and think that maybe I'm not too old to tackle an indexing job. A lot of us take what we can get from the records, the work of others, and don't engage ourselves in helping others in return. You are to be congratulated on your efforts to supply information to others including your work with DNA Projects. You are not only the administrator for one DNA project but at least two. I have appreciated what you do for the BARRETT-DNA project in keeping all the data well organized so all others have to do is to click on it to get information. As you said, you are also involved with "indexing" for the FamilySearch.org. Congratulations on that score too. I have very much appreciated the many, many times you have replied to my personal queries providing me with answers I could not fathom for myself. If it wasn't for guys like you, indexing records and organizing DNA projects, the rest of us would be without records to search. My hat is off to you, Jim, for all the work you do on behalf of genealogy. Congratulations on all your efforts. Sincerely, Dan E. Have you given back. Anyone with online access, faster than dial-up, is much better, can help made additional indexed records available. I have been indexing for Family Search for some time. Currently they are getting ready to build an index for the 1940 census. If you would like to help please visit https://www.familysearch.org/volunteer/indexing click on the "Get Started" link, download and install their software and get started indexing. When you register you will be given the choice to join groups: 1) Country, 2) Group or Society or 3) LDS Stake. If you are a member of a society you might want to check to see if your society has a indexing group. There is a long list! Another thing you'll need to do is set your preferences. I index records only if they are in English because I don't know other languages. For "Project Difficulty" I suggest you select "All Levels" as that is the only way you'll be able to both "Beginning" and "Intermediate" which most of you will want. I just ignore the items marked "Advanced". If you have question or need help they have a free number and lots of online help and I'll be happy to try. How much time does it take? As much as you want to give. When you download records to index you will normally have 10 to 40 names to index and you'll have a week to get it done. 3. I've been doing indexing for them for years. It is not that hard to do, although sometimes the handwriting of the census takers is hard to read. I encourage anyone who is interested to join the program. It doesn't take a lot of your time, unless you want it to. You can do one page of records or 100 a day, whatever you have time for.  I am anxiously waiting for the 1940 records as I want to find my grandmother after she remarried. My grandfather died in 1936.
