    3. Have info and request info about Yorks Barracloughs of Holmfirth area, c.1800. Cannot find parents or siblings of Joseph Barrowclough, b Jan 1804, whose sons spelled the name Barraclough. He married Mary Butterworth March 1823, at Almondbury, one of the parish churches of the Holmfirth region but produced a son Jonathan Butterworth in Feb 1823, before they wed. Jonathan was recognised by his father, married Nanny Metcalf in Bradford 1844, and emigrated to AUSTRALIA's gold fields, living in MOUNTAIN CREEK (now MOONAMBEL?) They had many children (born at first in tents!) and they were buried in the New Cemetary, Weslyan Section (the family were strong Methodists in England and Australia) at BALLARAT. Censuses show Joseph, Nanny and children in Birch Hill and South Lane, HOLMFIRTH, with children James, Hannah, William, David, Mary, and Joshua. Joseph's great great granddaughter Polly of LEEDS had family Bible, letters, steamship tickets etc of Jonathan, but sent them to Australia, where BALLARAT museum has them. Nearly all the sons were carpenters or joiners for many generations. Descendants of these Barracloughs live in Yorkshire where it is a very common name, in Canada and the USA. My wife's mother was a Barraclough, and I am enquiring for her. Soon she will be checking probate, bishops' transcripts etc to pass beyond 1800. We have visited the Yorkshire areas. The BBC Television programme "Last of the Summer Wine" is set in Holmfirth and there are general shots of the town and the moors outside where the Barracloughs lived. Can anyone help, or would like info/details?
