Hi Anne, There could be a birth certificate for Fountain in the Dec.Quarter of 1860.I say 'could' be because compulsory registration of births [and deaths] was only from c.1875 onwards.The cert.[if it exists] just might give his father's name.His marriage cert.might also give his dad's name. My gt.gt.grandma was born Ann Terry,illegit. dau.of Hannah Terry,but her marriage cert. stated that her father was Joseph Nichol. I found out that Hannah had 3 illegit.children all fathered by Joseph,who probably worked for her father.They possibly meant to marry,but poor Joe died at the early age of 24.Hannah baptised their last child [Coley Ch.] after Joseph's burial [also Coley] with the name Sarah Nichol Terry.Hannah died in her 50's, unmarried [bur.Bethel Chapel Shelf] Cheers----------------Derek
