Blast!!!!! Caught again by my new version of Eudora (Long Story) That last e-mail was supposed to have come from "Richard Thompson" <richard@timber-works.co.uk> Unfortunately, I have not moved to Yorkshire Linda Red-faced admin of BARRACLOUGH-L At 04:29 PM 26/02/2006 +1100, you wrote: >Hi Kim, > >Great Story! > >I'm in Burley in Wharfedale, so if you want be to pop to Otley and find a >headstone, let me know!
Hi Richard, Thank you so much for the wonderful offer. I few years ago, I was sent what information Otley Museum had on our William & George Barraclough (Father and brother of our Stephen who came out to Aust) I have just got that paperwork out again and it says that Memorials in the Grounds of Otley Parish Church There is no Barraclough in the graveyard of Otley PC. I'm quite surprised by this in that George was a Auditor and Churchwarden who attended vestry meetings & his father attended the vestry meetings as well. But it may be that the Church Grounds had closed for burials when they both died William in 1872 & George in 1901. The museum also checked Pool Road Cemetery records and only found George's son Harry Barraclough and his family buried there. M284 In loving memory of Eliza (Lilly) the beloved wife of Harry BARRACLOUGH born June 12th 1869 died Dec 8th 1904. Also Marjorie their daughter born January 25th 1892 died January 18th 1893. Also of the above Harry Barraclough who died Nov 30th 1920 aged 61 years "At Rest" They also sent me a list of other Barraclough's also buried there. John Barraclough b1821 d1878 Bairstow Barraclough of Bradford b1845 d1891 Emma Barraclough d1943 aged 68 Joe Barraclough d1953 aged 77 So I suppose the question is where on earth is George and his wife Hannah buried ? any ideas ? It could also be possible that Susannah Whitaker nee Barraclough could also be buried with George and his wife Hannah, again I really don't know. So please don't make any special trips to Otley on my behalf, I could very well be sending you on a wild goose chase. But if ever you do pass Otley Church or Pool Road Cemetery and have the time to go investigating, I would most certainly be grateful.
