Hi Pat, Thanks for the info, below is the marriage entries for John Barraclough to Joanna Bottomley, and the baptism of their daughter Rebecca. I would suggest you order the film for Bradford Parish Church from your nearest Church of Latter Day Saints and get a photocopy of the entry. Marriage 5th August 1813 John Barraclough, Soldier and Joanna Bottomley, spinster both of this parish were married by banns. John singed the register and Joanna made her mark. Baptism 26th Aug 1814 Entry 1594 Rebecca daughter of John and Susanna (This looked like Susanna but probably is Joanna), of Bradford, Lawyer. I do know a gentleman from the genealogy newsgroup Yorksgen who is doing a Study of the surname Jowett, his home page is www.users.globalnet.co.uk You can visit his homepage and email him asking if he has any information on Harriet Jowett, her parents and siblings. With a bit of luck he will have transcribed the GRO indexes and may have a listing of a marriage for Harriet Jowett in the year 1852 then all you have to do is look under the surname Barraclough for a John marrying in 1852 that has the same reference number as the number for Harriet Jowett's entry, then you know you have the right entry and can apply for the marriage certificate. That should give you who John's father was. And we will know for sure that John's father was a John. Below is the 1841 census for John and Joanna, this entry comes courtesy of one of our subscribers and fellow Barraclough helpers. Bohdan Mitulinski (You works is helping others enormously) Bfd. West End 1294 Westgate ED 16 P35 John Illingworth, 30, Cabinet Maker Rebecca Illingworth, 25 Thomas. Illingworth, 5 John Barraclough, 50, Timber Maker Johanna Barraclough, 50 Sarah Clark, 15, Female Servant Caroline Bradshaw, 20, Dress Maker >From this entry it appears that Rebecca married John Illingworth and her parents John and Joanna were living with them at the time of the 1841 census. The IGI shows Rebecca Barraclough married John Illingworth 17th May 1834 at Bradford Parish Church. Now I am wondering if John was involved in the First World War, or maybe the Boar War, sorry, I am not with when both the war's started, but seen that he was a soldier when he married Rebecca. Both might be possible. Anyone now how we can find out, I think Pat would need to know which regiment he was in and what his number was ? If we can find that out, you could apply for his service records from London, and again that should list his parents with a bit of luck. On checking the IGI there is a marriage entry for a John C. Barraclough to Harriett Jowett on the 12 Jan 1852 at Bradford, but I am not sure Pat, if this is an extraction from the Parish Register or an entry that was submitted to the LDS by someone else, also entries appear for the birth of John Charlton Barraclough in 1878 but these entries appear to be entries submitted to the LDS from someone else and not parish register extractions. We need Parish Register entractions so that we know the event did take place and not submission from people who may hve gotten the information from another source. You could check the Parish Parish Church marriges for the year 1852 and see if there is an entry for John and Harriet, but I am not sure if the parental information would be listed as I have not transcribed the Bradford Parish Register as yet for that time period. But it would be a cheaper way to get the info, than having to order the certificate, if all the info on the certificate is listed in the marriage entry. We Pat, that's a bit more info for you, and we can keep working on finding more information on your Barraclough's.
