    1. Re: [BARRACLOUGH] BARRACLOUGH
    2. Hi, My 4th great grandmother was Ann(e) Barraclough, who married James Smith on 7 Aug 1769 in the Bradford Parish Church. They had 4 children that I know of: Joseph Smith (21 Oct 1770), Susannah Smith (31 Jan 1773--my 3rd great grandmother, who married Joseph Cockcroft 3 Sep 1792 at St. Peter's in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, Eng.), James Smith (19 Dec 1775), and John Smith ( 12 Nov 1789). All the children were born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire. Susannah Smith and Joseph Cockcroft had 7 children all born in Huddersfield: William (7 Apr 1799), Elizabeth (30 April 1801--who married my great great grandfather, William Whiteley, on 1 Nov 1818 in Wakefield, Yorkshire), John (13 Jun 1809), Ann (7 Dec 1805), Henry (15 Mar 1808), Hannah (14 Oct 1812), and Abel (15 Apr 1815). William Whiteley and Elizabeth Cockcroft, along with their family and several of Elizabeth's siblings, came to the US in 1842 aboard the Roscoe. They landed in New York on 6 Aug 1842 and by the end of August had traveled to Racine, Wisconsin and settled in that area, which was known as the English Settlement. I hope some of these names sound familiar to you. I have been searching for parents and/or siblings of Ann Barraclough for a good long time now, with not a lot of results. As far as I know, Ann never left Yorkshire. Hoping to hear from you soon with encouraging news! Betty Whiteley Feldman of San Diego, CA.
