For Pat Tunks, Gloria Wilkinson and Kim Pasquill, Linda Barraclough for reference. As Derek Barraclough of Bradford once pointed out to me whilst correcting my impressions and records of MY Barracloughs, "The cat is amongst the pigeons". Perhaps the same applies here to some degree as I have the birth certificate of a John Charlton Barraclough born 28th July 1854 at John Court John Street Bradford West End. His father is recorded as John Barraclough, his mother Harriet Barraclough, formerly Jowett. Occupation of John the father is listed as "upholsterer". I also have sheet copies from a book "Pioneers and Priminent men of Utah" showing a photograph of John Barraclough born 28th July 1854 in Bradford England who came to Utah Oct.16th 1869 with the Joseph Lawson Company. Note, he was 15 years old and later became Deputy Clerk of the second district Beaver County for 25 years. He married Mary Josephine Fish Oct.9th 1879. He is listed in the book as the son of John and Harriet Barraclough. No proof, but I believe that the John who came to USA is the grandson of Maria, the first item in my message today (Mar.15th) to Kim, titled "Bradford PC lookup request" My father told me, an impressed young man about 70 years ago (yes, I am an old man) about a relative who met some Mormon Missionaries and went to the USA with them when he was 15years old to the great concern of the family. Also, details of Harriet are far from clear. It seems there is more than one Harriet Jowett married into the Barraclough name. From the 1851 census of Bradford:- 1. Harriet Jowett born 1827 worked as a servant for a 64 year old John Barraclough whose wife was Joanne, formerly Bottomley. Joanne died and I saw somewhere that he married Harriett. Harriet's parents were Jonathon and Martha Jowett. 2. Harriet Jowett born 1833 living in Carr Lane. Mother Sally, no husband listed so I presume she was a widow. Harriet was the youngest child. Harriet Jowett was purported to have married in 1852 but upon having a search done by the Bradford records office, they can find no such marriage records in the area from 1850 to 1856 of a Harriet Jowett to a John Barraclough. Sorry to be so negative to your assumptions and request via Kim and Linda but these are my records and I too am interested in obtaining the true facts. IGI, unfortunately does not always present the facts as they really are If anyone has further information on the people listed here, or identifies with them, then please let me know. We all have to tie in somewhere. My best wishes and luck in searching to all. Leslie Barraclough.
