(More will be coming, as this goes back to 1538.) >From Parish Registers of Halifax, Vol. I: Baptisms, 1538 to 1593. Transcribed [from original parish registers] and indexed by E.W. Crossley. Yorkshire Parish Register society, 1910 (Yorkshire Archaeological Society Publication 37). I've changed Roman numerals to Arabic numerals and generally changed Latin to English (e.g., "of" for "de"; names of months) but included "fil." (son or daughter) when it appears. I left the spellings of names as they are (except for some strange symbols for contractions that I can't reproduce). Names were listed in groups under year, then month, then day; I give the month and day after each name. Page numbers are from the transcript, not the register. Places: I've listed them as given, strange abbreviations and all. The townships were Barkisland, Elland, Fixby, Greetland, Norland, Rastrick, Rishworth, Soyland, and Stainland (all attached to chapel of Elland); Erringdon, Heptonstall, Langfield, Stansfield, and Wadsworth (all attached to chapel of Heptonstall); and Southowram, Hipperholme, Midgley, Northoram, Ovenden, Shelf, Skircoat, Southoram, Sowerby, and Warley (attached to parish church Halifax, although baptisms from other townships, especially Elland, Norland, and Soyland also took place there).
