Saw the reference to ancestors in South Cave and was reminded of a fascinating book I came across that anyone with ancestors in South Cave or a Yorkshire village early in the 19th century would be interested in. It is The Diary of Robert Sharp of South Cave: Life in a Yorkshire Village 1812-1837, ed. Janet E. and Peter A. Crowther, published for the British Academy (Records of Social and Economic History, News Series 26) by Oxford UP. Sharp was a school-teacher. As well as the diary itself, there is a long introduction about life in the village and a detailed map showing where some of the residents lived. Another first-hand account, from a little later and not too far away, is A Victorian Boyhood on the Wolds: Recollections of J. R. Mortimer [born 1825] , ed. J. D. Hicks, East Yorkshire Local History Society, 1978. Derek--glad to hear you are back. Stay well! Mary
