    3. Mary, Thanks for the great reference! I will definitely read this diary. I am enjoying my newfound connection to George Washington's family. Attended a President's Day Dinner last night, dressed up in a Washington-esque white wig. On the menu: Lincoln Log Meatloaf, iced with cheesy mashed potatoes, a delicious Cherry Pounder dessert, and Barbara Bush's Chocolate Chip cookies. Can anyone think of any movies set in Yorkshire? I recently watched the old and new versions of WUTHERING HEIGHTS, which I loved, and some of James Herriot's movies. I'm sure there are more, though. All recommendations will be appreciated. I'm having fun planning my trip! Best wishes, Simone HatsAndHandFans@Yahoo.Com Mary Berthold <berthold@wisc.edu> wrote: Saw the reference to ancestors in South Cave and was reminded of a fascinating book I came across that anyone with ancestors in South Cave or a Yorkshire village early in the 19th century would be interested in. It is The Diary of Robert Sharp of South Cave: Life in a Yorkshire Village 1812-1837, ed. Janet E. and Peter A. Crowther, published for the British Academy (Records of Social and Economic History, News Series 26) by Oxford UP. Sharp was a school-teacher. As well as the diary itself, there is a long introduction about life in the village and a detailed map showing where some of the residents lived. Another first-hand account, from a little later and not too far away, is A Victorian Boyhood on the Wolds: Recollections of J. R. Mortimer [born 1825] , ed. J. D. Hicks, East Yorkshire Local History Society, 1978. Derek--glad to hear you are back. Stay well! I'm having fun planning my trip! Brassed Off immediately springs to mind - there is even a Barraclough in the credits as playing in the Colliery band. And is The Full Monty (or whatever it was called?) set in Yorkshire????? Somehow I suspect these are not the scenery you are after. Cheers Linda sticking her head up above the parapet in Victoria, Australia, ducking down and running - life is very busy here. :(
