Hi Kim, I was looking at the J Horsfall Turner book you referred to. Regarding the Will transcript, there is a significant omission. Viz. the Witnesses; one of whom was a John Baroclough. On page 116 of the book is a reference to Barowecloghbrigg, which I haven't come across before. The extract from the 1427 Brighouse Court Rolls reads "Assessment of 20s on Hiprom (Hipperholme) tenants to repair the highway in a road leading from Balybrigg (Bailiff Bridge) to Barowecloghbrigg." This places Hipperholme somewhere between Bailiff Bridge and Barrowclough Bridge. Logically Barrowclough Bridge will be at the bottom (it's a steep hill) of Barrowclough Lane, in the valley bottom. Barrowclough Lane runs between Southowram and Hipperholme. The stream runs down past Shibden Hall towards Brighouse, (under Barrowclough bridge) and through Sutcliffe wood. On my map the stream is called 'Red Beck'. Jeff. By the way, the date on your original email was wrong. It was probably sent on 14 October 2003, but I expect you were a bit wary of the Millennium bug!! -----Original Message----- From: Kim Pasquill [mailto:football@net2000.com.au] Sent: 31 December 1996 20:26 To: BARRACLOUGH-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BARRACLOUGH] Will of Christoper Barraclough of Hipperholme HI Everyone, This one is for you Jeff, you can put it onto your Will's transcript page.
