Hi Pete, The reason my notes get a bit vague later on is that I aren't researching Barraclough after about 1800. My own connections occur before then. I will have got the references to the children from the two brothers' Wills, especially John's which was made in 1836/37. Abraham's brothers, Frank b. 1759 and John b. 1756 were the children of Francis and Hannah Tordoff. Betty Oats married Abraham Barraclough b.1761 at Bradford Parish Church on 17 April 1786 and was a spinster. What happened after that I couldn't really say. I prefer the second wife theory, there were a lot of Betty's around and it was not uncommon for men to remarry. Hi Jeff Now I am getting a bit confused. Fairly normal for me. I do have copies of the wills of the brothers Frank & John. But have those two gents as the sons of Betty ODDY. It occurs to me that your Betty OATS and my Betty ODDY just might be the same persons. Just a little error in the nameOats / Oddy would cover this. And such a transcription error would be easy. Also I have the Bap of this Abraham as Parish Register entry reads: : Abram. son of Francis Barraclough baptised 5th July 1761 Compares with your date of 11th July. Could this be another error ? Or dates of Birth then Baptism ? My problem now is that I don't know the source of the Betty ODDY name. I think I took it from the Barraclough List some long time ago. And I have not much information about her. Only the 1851 census when she was living with her daughter Hannah SMITH & fam 1851 Census piece2304 ed2 folio33 sched24 Dwelling: Slack Side Census Place : North Bierley, Yorkshire, England George Smith Head Mar M 48 Ag Lab Yorks., ? May I please have details of the marriage 17 Apr 1786. The real problem seems to be that the Betty, mother of Hannah SMITH was age 66 on 1851 census so born about 1784 so would have been only age 2 at time of the marriage in 1786. So presumably marriied an Abraham a generation up. There were enough of them to go round. Hello Jeff Thanks for the mail. You can't be any more vague than I am at present ! I have copies of the wills of Frank & John B. Brothers of young Abraham (1761 - 1815) The second marriage theory would certainly run. If so there should be a burial of Betty Barraclough ( Oates ) That marriage in 1761 would be possible . Abraham would have been age 25. A good mariagable age. But no children ??. The first of the next marriage bap 1803. Seems to be too long a gap. More work needed. Looking at the dates I have Abraham died and buried 17 May 1815 age 54 - at Holy Trinity, Wibsey. Possibly there is a generation (Anothe Abraham ?) missed out. I have the birth of his last child, another Abraham, as bap at Wibsey 24 Jan 1816 BUT noted as "Abraham son of Abraham & Elizabeth Barraclough, of Wibsey, Manufacturer baptised 14 January 1816" This suggests he has been attached to the wrong family. As his previous children are all shown as of Francis son of Abraham Barraclough ofWibsey Stuff Maker, baptised 28 Jul 1803 Martha daughter of Abraham Barraclough,of Rawnook, Labourer baptised 21st October 1804 Hannah daughter of Abraham Barraclough, of Bank, Weaver baptised 11th January 1807 Mary daughter of Abraham& Betty Barraclough of Wibsey, Labourer, baptised 1st January 1814 Joseph son of Abraham & Betty Barraclough, of Wibsey Labourer, baptised 1 Jan 1814 Abraham son of Abraham & Elizabeth Barraclough, of Wibsey, Manufacturer baptised 14 January 1816 Is this too many changes of occupation for one Abraham ? Do you know if Abraham died 1815 left a will ? Pete Jeff Sutcliffe wrote: >Hi Pete, > >The reason my notes get a bit vague later on is that I aren't researching >Barraclough after about 1800.
