    3. Following some recent submissions to the List, if anyone is interested there is a reference to Robin Hood in the Wakefield Manor Court records of 1288, relevant to the Graveships of Brighouse, Rastrick and Hipperholme. The Graveship of Hipperholme is the probably the origin of the Barraclough surname. Following the election of the Foresters in 1288, the Court Roll refers to attacks by “gangs of men, and Robin Hood, whose name still lingers in place-names in these parts, could hardly fail to be found amongst the deer stealers. There were also wild beasts …..”. This reference is from the History of Brighouse, Rastrick and Hipperholme by J Horsfall Turner, published in 1893, on page 51. Robin Hood is reputed to have been buried at Kirklees Priory, about 2 miles away, but his body has never been discovered. This confirms the famous outlaw as a Yorkshireman, carrying out his trade in the middle of Barraclough country, sometime before 1288, possibly at the time of the Crusades. Jeff.
