    3. Hi All, Just wanted to let you all know Peter hit the jackpot with his hits for Violet (b 1921) and Stanley (b 1920)Barraclough. I have just received the certificates and they are both the correct ones! Their Mum is listed as Miriam Barraclough on Violets, and Marian Barraclough on Stanley's and the address also changes from 171 Levenhulme Rd, Gorton to #191, however the informant is J Barraclough for both filed in the same hand. Both children do not have fathers names identified.. I have checked for the possibility that the girls (Marian and Miriam) may be sisters and was unable to find anything, so am assuming it is as Grandma said...that they are siblings, and Marian was a spelling error. I have located a Miriam Barraclough born 1895 in Manchester daughter to Samuel Russell Barraclough (b 1858 in Scotland) and who married Julia Barker Dec, 1879 in Halifax. Miriam's siblings are: Willie (b 1875- Halifax), Evelyn (b Abt 1883- Leicesterhsire), Percy (b Abt 1887- Elland), Edward (b Abt 1889- Elland), Ellis (b Abt 1891- Elland), Norman (b Abt 1894- Manchester), Norah (b Abt 1900). Samuel's Parents are: William Barraclough who married Catherine Russell. A Mrs Ellis Barraclough was reported in a newspaper as emigrating to New Zealand with her two children 7th July, 1926 with David Holdsworth Barraclough (b Abt 1886) and his wife, Mary Annie Broome. She later returned to live in Cheshire. David Holdsworth Barraclough had a brother Frederick Barraclough (b Abt 1884). Now the tricky bit... Violet's marriage certificate has her father listed as Frederick Mitchell Barraclough. Gran says she never knew her father and she didn't have his name. She carried her mothers name. I wondered if the priest may have added the name Barraclough to make it all a bit more polite or proper?? Is this unlikely? There are stacks of Frederick Mitchell's. Is it more likely that this was ommitted from the birth certificates because it was actually a relation??? Maybe someone here can help? Can anyone shed any light on Frederick, brother of David? Obviously, I need to go sideways to see where David and Ellis are linked, but just thought I'd check in here first. If anyone has info on these lines, I would really appreciate anything you may be able to share. I also need to begin requesting records from several orphanages. Does anyone have any advice on this as to where is the best place to start? Primarily, I need to lodge enquiries with Beverley Orphanage, Lancashire Childrens Home and St Barnados. If anyone has had experience with this, any tips would be great. I will end with three cheers for Pete! Thanks so much for your help with this. I may have been going in circles for years waiting for that info to come online. You are nothing short of precious! Hip..Hip..HOORAY! Best to all, Nic
