    3. Hi Linda The Barraclough family that L.M.M was friends with was Ernest and Ida Barraclough of Norval Ontario. Montgomery writes much about them in the Selected Journals of L.M.Montgomery Volume IV: 1929-1935. Naomi Barraclough From: Linda Barraclough <[email protected]> Reply-To: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: [BARRACLOUGH] Barracloughs in books Date: Wed, 30 Aug 2000 23:35:04 +1000 Speaking of Barracloughs in Books, as Kim is below, I cannot resist repeating one of my favourite stories, so I hope longer-term list members will forgive me, but the newer ones may not have heard it. Canada's National writer of books for girls was L.M.Montgomery, who wrote the Anne of Green Gables series, set on Prince Edward Island. One of her least-known, "non-Anne" books is "The Blue Castle" where a spinster girl living with her widowed mother and her paternal aunts kicks over the traces big time. The heroine's mother's maiden name was Barraclough, and her father was said, from memory, to be Araham Barraclough, a lovable rascal who cared little about what anyone thought. When the poor heroine did anything wrong, it was always "The Barraclough coming out in her". I did read, somewhere in the autobiography of L.M. Montgomery, "The Wheel of Things", that late in life she met a Barraclough family who she became friendly with, and this is obviously a bit of fun between her and someone in that family. I have looked in her biography but was never able to find the reference again. So I am off to read it in bed (again) to see if I can find out who they were. Cheers Linda >From: Kim Pasquill <[email protected]> <lots of snipping out> PS On the subject of the Bronte's has any read the novel by Pamela Haines called "Daughter Of The >Northern Fields" >If so, let me know, I would be very interested in your thought's regarding the autobiography and >manuscript which makes up the book. Is it indeed fact or fiction ?. And when you read it, did you >notice it also contacted the Barraclough name :-)) ==== BARRACLOUGH Mailing List ==== - _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
