Hi Jean and Steve and All, I have a Major Barraclough too, my grandfather, Major Henry Barraclough, son of Luke, son of James. He was born in 1873 at Kangaroo Flat (can you get a more Australian name than that!) near Bendigo in Victoria, Australia. He was always known as Major, and I suspect it may have been a name/name trend that had a vogue at a particular time. But if any of the other Majors can jump out of the woodwork with a close enough relationship for him to be named after them, I would be more than delighted.
