Dear All, Time to introduce myself, although I don't actually have anything helpful to offer just yet. Six generations of my family in India since 1792 have included just one BARROWCLOUGH that I know of. Elizabeth Barrowclough (c.1817 - 1881) married Alexander McCOMBIE - Music Master to the Governor - in Bombay in November 1832. Thanks to the brevity of early Indian records I have no idea who Elizabeth's parents were or where she was born. She and Alexander had 11 children in India and returned to London for good during the 1870s. Not a lot to go on, but her predecessors in India must have come from Britain. I'm working on it (in the British Library). Meanwhile, I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who knows of any Barra/Barrowclough in India or who might have served with the Army in the East Indies. I don't find any mention of India in the list archive, but would be happy to track down Indian records for anyone with Barracloughs who might have been there. Jill (Cambridge, UK)
