    3. And Good Morning to You Derek, Now we know you got a calendar for Christmas (What next? The Treaty of Waitangi Anniv for both our NZ Barras?), a Happy Oz Day to you too. Very wet here, so no prawns on the Barbie and NEVER shrimps, but our local butcher does a lovely pork brawn. Incidentally (1) Our prawns have a different name in the UK where they are LOBSTERS. Incideentallty (2) If it's the same young Wilkinson, I taught him all I know. What's he doing these days, taking sick benefit? And Mr. Johnson I understand has taken the old age pension. Only another 13 to go! toodlepip j

    3. Hi Kim, I am sorry it has taken so long to thank you for your kindness, but we have just changed over to ADSL and what should have been a simple conversion was anything but. It has taken me almost a week to get my email up and running again. The Barraclough information supplied is wonderful and I truly appreciate your sharing it with me (and I will add it to my database) but I am more interested, at the moment, in trying to find the present day branch of the family. The photo I have has a dried up bunch of flowers on the grave which indicates that there must be someone out there who cares. I would dearly love to find that person. :) Lyn ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kim Pasquill" <kmp789@net2000.com.au> To: <BARRACLOUGH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 01, 1997 3:20 AM Subject: Re: [BARRACLOUGH] Barraclough/Wilkinson > Hi Lyn, > > Welcome to the group. 2. To Whom It May Concern! Not sure who this note is going to. All I know is that better than a year ago I go a note from a John Kleinberg who was responding to a note from a Pat Sanderson regarding the family name BARROWCLOUGH. To make a long story short, I have decided that 2004 is the year I get my family history completed. If you are interested in what I have learned or know anyone who may be interested, please direct them to my website. www.barrowclough.com. If you have question or comments please e-mail me at BarrowcloughKD@aol.com. If this note does not interest you, please forgive the intrusion and I do apologize. Thank you! Kevin D. I have Harper ancestors that are on the Fewston Parish Register in the early 17th. century and I found them later in the century living in Hampsthwaite.Do you think that some of the Fewston Barracloughs might also have moved out to nearby villages ? 3. Happy New Year, Just to get you back into the swing of things I am listing all the Barraclough entries contained in the Fewston Parish Registers. There were some interesting spelling variations, but I suppose that's to be expected. The vicar of Fewston would no doubt have had difficulty understanding someone from as far afield as Wibsey (or was it Hipperholme??) (Fewston is about 20 miles North of Wibsey). These were Abraham's children: - Mary baptised 4 March 1603/4; John 12 January 1605/06; William 10 January 1607/08; Francis 21 February 1609/10; Jane 23 August 1612; Charles Barraclough had a son John baptised 30 December 1604. The wife of Abraham Barraclough was buried on 24 April 1614. John Barraclough married Isabel Gamble on 14 November 1625 John Barraclough had a daughter (no name) baptised 16 November 1628. There were no other Barraclough entries. Following the death of his wife it appears that Abraham's family moved back to Wibsey, where he remarried and had some more children. This latter fact is confirmed by his Will made in 1643. As for Charles, Charles' wife, John and John's wife Isabel I would be interested to hear any theories on what might have happened to them. 2. Linda Barraclough
    3. Hi Everyone, Virus warnings are usually off-topic on this list (like most Rootsweb lists), but we are such a small and understanding community, I know you find this one acceptable. I have just received a virus attached to a message allegedly from Brain Barraclough. I am quite happy it is not from Brian. It appears to have originated from someone with an association with a server called avorta or with freecom, both in England. I cannot locate that person on the list, but it is definitely someone who has Barracloughs in common. So if you think this might be you - please run a virus scan on your computer. You will also be someone who has written to a Stacey about your family. If you have just received an e-mail with an attachment with the file extension .scr - do not open it, delete it and remove it from trash. Hopefully you all have updated virus scanning (if not, why are you on the net?), and will have caught it as it comes down. I repeat - this has not been sent through the list - you cannot get a virus attached to a list message. However in this case it appears to be from a Barraclough that Brian and I have in common. If you think it may be you, please go offline NOW and scan your computer. Cheers Linda List-admin Barraclough-L

    3. Thank you. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. This family is so elusive. I wish that I'd had the foresight to start this family history thing in the 80's when there was someone around to answer all/any/even just one my questions. Woulda, coulda, shoulda.... as the saying goes. LOL! Just a small comment here. I had hoped to utilize the Bradford Archives but 35 pound sterling an hour equates to about $80 or $90 Australian and I just cant justify that kind of expense. I wish they had a more realistic price structure. You can have the Tasmanian archives searched for $22 Australian! And for that they'll send you as much as they can find in an hour, including postage! I have to wonder what is so special about Bradford. :( Lyn ----- Original Message ----- From: "Anne Welch" <anne@welch5171.fslife.co.uk> To: <BARRACLOUGH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 12, 2004 12:56 AM Subject: Re: [BARRACLOUGH] Barraclough/Wilkinson > Hi Lyn > > Do not despair, you will get lots of info from this most helpful of groups. > My Barracloughs are from the Horton area, but the group has lots of > information on the ones from Wisbey, and I am sure that more people will > respond to your request. > > Regards > Anne > > > > > ==== BARRACLOUGH Mailing List ==== > To check out previous messages to the List, go to > http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/BARRACLOUGH/ > > >

    3. Hi there, I have joined this list in a hope that someone here may be able to help me. My husband's father and his siblings have all passed away many years ago and we are having such problems trying to find a starting point to trace his family in England. Being in Australia, when all of the relevant archives are in England, makes me so frustrated. LOL! Living in a small country town also complicates things, so well meaning people telling me to got to do a look up at my local LDS Family Center have no idea that it is not possible for me. I have exhausted all of my Wilkinson options as I cannot find any trace of his grandparent's (Percy Wilkinson and Emily Johnstone) births, deaths or marriage. I know that they were married, as she was very religious, but I just can't find any record to prove it :( So, onto the Barraclough connection. My Father in Law's oldest sister, Nellie Wilkinson was married to a Stan Barraclough and they lived in Wibsey, Bradford up until the time they died in the 1980's. I have very limited information on Nellie as my mother in law, now in her 80's suffers from dementia and has lost the memories that might have helped us. She has even lost the memories surrounding her own family in Italy, but that is a story for another time. :) A very kind lady on another list sent me a photograph of the family grave at North Bierley cemetery, Buttershaw, Bradford, Yorkshire the Inscriptions says ... "In loving memory of Walter Henry Barraclough of Wibsey, who died 11th March 1950, aged 75 years, for 32 years a member of The Bradford City Council and Lord Mayor 1943-4. Also of his beloved wife Mary, who died 23rd May 1961 aged 88? years. In loving memory of Christopher Edmund Barraclough, died 1st Jan 1991, aged 44 years. In memory of Magdelene, dearly beloved wife? of Stanley Barraclough died ? March 1942, aged 34 years. Stanley Edmund Barraclough, died 25th May 1989, aged 85 years. Nellie Barraclough, second wife of Stanley Barraclough, 1.12.1900 - 13.10.1980 or 1986?" (I can't quite make out the last date) We had pinned our hopes on locating Christopher, my husband's cousin, but the arrival of the photo has killed these plans. I am hoping, considering that Walter was so prominent a citizen in Wibsey, that someone on this list can lay claim to him and perhaps be able to give me some information of the present generation of Barracloughs. We would especially be interested to know if Christopher had any family of his own. My son may very well be is the last of his line. You can't imagine how frustrating it is to realize that my husband's side of our family tree may always remain lost to us. I am so sorry that I didn't start doing the family tree 20 years ago, when there was still someone who could have filled in the blanks. Hoping to hear from someone, :) Lyn in Australia
