    3. I am currently researching Abraham’s family who moved to Fewston about 1600 and then back to Wibsey. I have a copy of his Will, thanks to Derek. It seems that he was probably from Hipperholme, but I need to be able to confirm it from contemporary Wills. I would be pleased to hear from anyone who has a copy of any of the Barraclough Wills made before 1640. It has been quite painstaking searching the Halifax Registers, but well worthwhile. For example: Abraham Barraclough and Jane Aubrey, of Sowerby married in 1603, then on consecutive days in December 1606 first Abraham’s daughter Susan (of Sowerby) was buried and then his wife (also of Sowerby). The Halifax Registers are very good at stating place names, including those of marriages, that is if you can read and understand the abbreviations. There are about two dozen Wills that I would like to look at. When I next update my web site I will add the Halifax entries and update the database. 3. My local library has printed copies of the Times of London index, and microfilms of the newspaper itself, so if you really want to know "who it was that married in 1844, then went to Australia after a few years, returned once briefly, and was being divorced in 1866", send me a bit more detail and I might be able to help. After all, I've had lots of help from other people on this list! Best wishes, Peter Dauncey South London, UK

There are 2062 Barraclough entries, I would love to know who it was that married in 1844, then went to Australia after a few years, returned once briefly, and was being divorced in 1866. Heaps and Heaps of stuff in there, and I am not sure how long it will be online Cheers Linda

    1. Help with Excel formula
    2. Peter Dauncey
    3. Hi Kim and Jeff, The CSV and Notepad method is fine if you've got a small amount of data (say a screenful). If you've got more, I think it's worth creating a formula: If cell A2 is Kim PASQUILL then MID(A2,1,FIND(" ",A2)-1) will give you Kim and RIGHT(A2,LEN(A2)-FIND(" ",A2)) will give you PASQUILL However, if A2 was, say, Peter Laurence DAUNCEY, the first formula would give you Peter, but the second would give you Laurence DAUNCEY. There are ways around this, but depending on the data you've got, you may well prefer Jeff's method. Happy Easter! Peter

    1. RE: Help with Excel formula - BARRACLOUGH
    2. Jeff
    3. Hi Kim, I can tell you how to do it, but not using formulas. You need to save the Excel file as a type CSV (comma separated variable); you can do this from the drop down options. Close the file and reopen it with Notepad (right click and select the Open With option). Turn off the word wrap, in Format. All you need to do now is type a comma between the names. You will also need to add an extra comma onto the first row to make a new column and then name it. Save the file with the changes and reopen it in Excel (by double clicking as normal). You will lose any formatting from the original Excel file, but I don't expect you will have any to worry about. If it saves time you can export directly from Access in CSV format without going into Excel first. If do you find a formula, let me know and I might use it. At the moment I'm sticking to using data as it comes, even though it does cause some problems. Fortunately I don't have to use IGI material very much. I hope this helps. You just need a bit of lateral thinking.
