    3. Hi All, The West Yorkshire Archive Service lists a record as: Barraclough family of West Yorkshire, notes and documents regarding family history. Compiled by June Benn (c.1700-1991) Created: 1991 Ref - 8D92 I enquired from here (Australia) about accessing them, but just received directions back into the index, so I guess that means I can't access them electronically and need to visit the office? Has anyone else accessed this record?...Or is anyone in the area willing and/or able to check them out? I am hoping it may shed some light on James parents...or potentially link some of our early 1700 forefathers or identify their relationships. There is also another record held by the Yorkshire Archaeological Society that may be worth a look that was created by Henry Lawrance (1873-1947) a Yorkshire historian. It is ID'd as: Barraclough family and others, genealogical notes by CB Norcliffe. Ref - MS774 Is anyone handy to these record offices, who might be able to make relevant info available for us all? Hope you are all doing well. Nic P.S. - If I don't answer straight away it is because I only have weekly messages and can't work out how to change that...lol

    3. Hi All, I just noticed an old post from Alfred Barraclough on Kym's guest book. Have tried emailing him at the address posted and it has bounced back. I would very much like to make contact with him. He lists his Dad as Norman and his Grandfather as Norman originally hailing from Yorks and Lancashire. He said his Dad moved to London in 1948. If he is part of our list, or anyone has had contact with him...could you please let him know I am wanting to compare notes, and pass on my email address (or ask if he would mind if I had his)? I hope everyone is forging ahead with their research. I am on two weeks break from uni, and have just jumped back into it. No sooner had I tidied my desk after the term, it is now covered in piles of paperwork again! Tis so hard to put it away, once you're into it... Nic

    3. Dear Anne, Apart from his marr.to Susannah Radcliffe in 1811,I have no other info.about John B. He thoughtlessly went and died before the 1841 census, leaving no clue as to his age and possible year of birth.Nor have I found a burial that could definitely be his. I suspect that his father could have been a Joseph, because John named his firstborn Joseph, and in turn Joseph then named HIS firstborn John. Cheers--------Derek

But there is a link. John and Rhoda's grandson, Jonas married Fanny Sowden, who was the daughter of Amos Sowden, brother of my gt grandfather Ezra. I have been scrutinising your email and wonder, did your John B (Susannah Radcliffe's spouse) have a brother named Jonas? Anne

    3. Hi Anne, The John, who married Rhoda, was the younger brother of my gt.gt.grandad Joseph Barracloough. They were both sons of John B.and Susannah Radcliffe/Ratcliffe who mar.in 1811 at Bradford P.C. The other two brothers of Joseph & John were Thomas [the illegitimate father of a Levi B.] and Squire, who had a very large family,as did John and Rhoda. My Joseph also went to Leeds after the death of his wife Hannah [nee Slicer],leaving all the children of that marr.with his widowed mother,Susannah, including my gt.grandad William. In Leeds,Joseph re-married and fathered at least one son,but I haven't traced any of his descendants as yet. I suspect I have 'cousins by the dozen' out there, somewhere, that I know nothing of. 3. Hello listers, I was excited to see some postings relating to Bradford area Barraclough families. I was recently able to get a copy of the marriage certificate for Thomas Robinson and Mary Barraclough, who were married at the Pontefract parish on 7 Aug 1809. Now I am trying to find Mary's parents and wondered if anyone knows anything about the following children of Charles and Elizabeth (Roberts) Barraclough family listed in the I.G.I. on Films 6909644 and 471467 on Batch # 007757 (1774-1784), Batch #150523 (1785-1789) and Batch # K007758 (1789-1793): Peter, christened 22 Aug 1784 Cathedral Saint Peter, Sheffield, Yorkshire, Eng. Sarah, christened 10 Sep 1786 Cathedral Saint Peter, Sheffield, Yorkshire, Eng. Mary, christened 12 Apr 1789 Cathedral Saint Peter, Sheffield, Yorkshire, Eng. Charlotte, c17 Jul 1791 buried 19 Aug 1792 Cathedral Saint Peter, Sheffield, Yorkshire, Eng. Harriott, christened 29 may 1796 Cathedral Saint Peter, Sheffield, Yorkshire, Eng. The I.G.I. listed a marriage date for Charles and Elizabeth (Roberts) Barraclough as 11 Aug 1784 but it doesn't say where they were married. I would love to hear from anyone with connections to this family, or from anyone who can put me in contact with someone who might have some information on them. Many thanks in advance, Sherry Shallenberger (Pennsylvania)

    3. Hi Diane, Nice to hear from you again also. As the List has gone quiet recently, I'll reply here. It must be difficult for you being from California, whereas I have the advantage of being local to Bradford. According my own research notes Abraham Barraclough married Ann Beetham at Bradford Parish Church on 14 May 1746. Their abode was given as Wibsey. Most Wibsey marriages were performed at BPC. Only a small number were actually performed at Wibsey Chapel (Holy Trinity Church). The dates you have for their daughter Ann Barraclough are the same as I have. I also have that she was both baptised and married at BPC. In the course of my research I have only come across four of James's children: Joseph 1770; Susy 1773; James 1775; and John 1780. As my interest is in Barraclough and Smith of Wibsey of that time, the Cockroft name is peripheral and I do not have very much information. It certainly seems quite probable that two brothers would marry two sisters. At the moment I am struggling with the 16th century Barraclough families of Hipperholme; the ancestors of Abraham Barraclough. Yes I have had emails from Betty Whiteley Feldman, thanks. 3. Hi Diane in California, I was quite intrigued by your email as I have done a lot of research on the ancestors of Abraham Barraclough who married Ann Beetham in 1746. On my web site this is Family Group 6.2 and it is linked back through FG 6.27 to FG 6.28, that of Richard Barraclough who married Elizabeth Judson in 1566, two hundred years earlier. I hope to be publishing further details soon as I am still in the process of researching Richard's ancestors. Going back to Ann Beetham, her daughter Ann Barraclough married James Smith in 1762. I have one of their daughters Susannah Smith marrying Joseph Cockcroft, a cloth dresser of Huddersfield, in 1792 at Huddersfield Parish Church. I must confess I haven't researched the Cockcroft's, or the Smith's outside of the Bradford area, and I haven't come across their other daughter Abigail Smith or her marriage to a Cockroft. As far as I am aware James Smith and Ann never moved from Great Horton. Ann was buried nearby at Wibsey Chapel in 1784 and James was also buried at Wibsey Chapel in 1819. I am curious as to who Abigail married. Was it Joseph's brother? 3. Hi Steve, Yes, you must be still on...and yes, it's been quiet hasn't it? Life gets hectic sometimes. Are there too many names to share on here? If so, and its manageable could you send me the names direct? I'd love a look. We just celebrated ANZAC day here in Aus and I spent some time prior to it going through the War Graves Commemorations. They have done a nice job...and include tributes and photos of some of the mass graves in personalised tributes for those soldiers who died without formal burial. Many a Barraclough/Barrowclough fell and I found lots of maybes...many signed up (possibly underage?) and their details were withheld or intentionally vague, so it made it quite tricky. Anything you have may prove helpful. All the best, Nic
