    1. Long lost Barraclough found BARRACLOUGH/WHITAKER
    2. Kim Pasquill
    3. Hi Everyone, Well I finally subcribed to Ancestry.com and have had a wonderful time, finding many elusive Barraclough relations. I thought I would send the information to the list so that all the family could share what I found. Our Susannah Barraclough, youngest sister of our Stephen (who came to Australia) last appeared still living with her dad William in the 1871 Census in Otley. William died in 1872 and I had no idea what ever happend to Susannah from there. I searched all the deaths of a Susannah Barraclough, no luck there, so thought she must have married between 1872 when she is still refered to as Susannah Barraclough in her dad's will and the 1881 census, when no Susannah Barraclough fitted the bill. What I did was look on the Free BDM's and listed all Susannah Barraclough for the period, then looked at the other surnames that was listed with the same reference page. Two possibilites for each marriage, then made not the the possible husbands and went looking in the 1881 census. Bingo! I found her, living with her husband. 1881 Census for Otley Westgate Benjamin Whitaker, Head, Mar, 49, Blacksmith Striker, Unemployed, born York, Burley in Wharfedale. Susannah Whitaker, Wife, Mar, 43, born York, Leeds I then checked the 1891 Census only to discover that Benjamin appears living as a lodger in Horton and a widower. Susannah Whitaker died aged 51 years in the June Quarter 1888 in the District of Wharfedale. My guess is that she died in Otley and might be buried at Otley PC, where her brother George is buried. But will have to check that out. This left only 2 more siblings of Stephen's to track down, only problem is a John is one of them, that's like looking for needle in a hay stack. I think I am going to have to settle on never knowing what ever happend to John, and hope that one day a descendent of his becomes interested in our family history and on finding him a brother of Stephen's contacts me. But the other siblings Mary I have finally found and will send her info in a new email. So the moral is, never give up on your Barraclough's, I've been researching for well over 20 years, and never thought I would find out what happend to Susannah & Mary, but I think it's simply a case of them sending the info our way when THEY want us to find them :-)))))))) Cheers Kim --------------------------------------------------- Letter content was scanned by WinAntiVirus 2005. 2. Saphyre
    3. Hi all...this is my first post to this list. I have been pretty much lurking for the past couple of years in the hope of finding answers to an elusive ancestor! I am trying to find any information at all on a Domingo MONTARA who married Harriet Barraclough. I have managed to track down Harriet via UK census records but there appears to be no recorded data on Domingo other than him appearing as Father to Alfred Emanuel Montara on his marriage certificate to Sarah Moncaster. A couple of Domingo and Harriet's children were born in Scotland but again no recorded information on Domingo at all. If anyone should come across this name in their Barraclough searches I would love to hear from you. Many thanks in advance. Fiona in Oz saphyre@cybersol.com.au

    2. Kim Pasquill
    3. Hi Everyone, I have just uploaded another batch of Barraclough entries to the Deeds Index on my homepage. From 1848 to 1863. These entries where extraced from the West Riding Registry of Deeds. This means that the index now spans from 1708 to 1863. But that will be it for awhile. I have had all these entries extract by a professional researcher at considerable cost to myself, and feel that I should start and spend some money on obtaining more cert's etc. for my Barracloughs. But I will let you know if I ever do expand the index. I certainly hope that some of you have found the index helpful and it has led to you obtaining Deeds regarding property that your Barraclough's owned. http://kmp789.customer.netspace.net.au/ Happy Hunting Kim --------------------------------------------------- Letter content was scanned by WinAntiVirus 2005. 3. Hi once again: My Barraclough roots (as far back as I can get them) go to Nathan (Hipperholme) abt 1800. I have enrolled in a site which allows you to upload your family tree and to scan other trees in an effort to get a match and have had luck with it so far. - found a cousin! http://www.genesreunited.com/genesreunited.asp?wci=yourhome Membership on this site cost 9 pounds a year but you can scan individual names for free. Anyway - I have attached the names of my Barraclough family from the 1881 census - hoping some one will spot something in their own tree. 1. Roll-Call: Samuel Barraclough line
    2. Mary Berthold
    3. Since it's a new year, and it's been some time since I listed the Barraclough line I'm researching, I thought I would do that now, and suggest that others do the same. Each entry describes the son of the one above. Sheffield is used for Ecclesall Bierlow as well as for Sheffield. Samuel BARRACLOUGH m. (1772) Hannah BRITTAIN(S), Leeds Jeremiah (bap. 1 Jan 1785; d. 18 Aug. 1858, Leeds) m. (16 April 1816, Birstall) Ann RUSSOM (d. Apr 1836, Leeds) Edwin (bap. 15 June 1817, Leeds; d. bef. 1871, Sheffield) m. (1845, Sheffield) Sarah WATSON Ashall (bap. 29 Sep 1807, North Burton; d. bet. 1881 and 1891, Sheffield). Edwin (b. 10 Mar 1846, Sheffield) m. (Feb 1866, Sheffield) Eliza HEALD (b. 6 May 1848; d. Mar 1882, Sheffield). Edwin (b. 2 July 1870, Sheffield; d. 22 Feb 1908, Workington, Cumb.) m. (28 Sep 1891, Sheffield) Edith Mary WATTS (b. 28 July 1869, Sheffield), d. 29 June 1957, Whitehaven, Cumb.after living in the U.S. 1922-1956). (Edwin and Edith's sisters married into SMITH (later CADMAN-SMITH), PICKIN, DODDS, and MARSDEN families, all in the Sheffield area. I would be interested in corresponding with anyone with connections to these families. I'm also interested in anyone who can connect with my "mystery" Barracloughs--Anthony and Michael--who appear at ages 3 and 5 in a photograph my mother probably received in the 1920s. They are probably the sons of Geoffrey Barraclough, b. 1894, son of the last Edwin's brother George (b. c. 1866) m. Hilda TROWN), but I have no knowledge of this family). And, finally, Edith Watts Barraclough's mother was a Mary HORNER, b. c. 1848 and adopted by William (b. 9 Feb 1812, Carlton near Roystone) and Elizabeth WALKER (b. c. 1812, Sheffield). If anyone can identify Elizabeth or locate the Walkers before 1861, it may help me to find her birth parents. Many thanks, and Happy New Year.
