    3. >From "The Manor of Wibsey, the Town & District", Stella H. Carpenter. "Pot Houses and Tordoff Green" "Retracing ones footsteps along North Road, 150 years ago only a track across the easternmost tip of the slack, Tordoff Green is soon reached. Nowadays the green, originally stretching down to Pot House(sic), is only a fraction of the size it once was. The 1790 map shows a quarry there, whilst the O.S. map of 1847 shows the whole area as part of the slack. The houses we see today were already there and from the 1790 map it seems clear why this are bears the name of Tordoff: Esquire Tordoff, Samuel Tordoff and Jonas Tordoff, clearly three different persons, each have homesteads here-abouts and one or the other or all of them occupy four other buildings. Tordoff, but which one it does not say, also occupied Palm Close, so we know that the place name has not changed, as some have, during the last 200 years." Note: more on Tordoff in Chapter Seven. "At a land ownership trial in York, Stephen Barraclough. Aged 62. Said he resided at Penny Close Farm, and in 1904 his grandson Thomas William Barraclough still lived there. The property, which has been much altered over time, was apparently dived in the late 19th or early 20th century when two Barraclough brothers had a dispute." 3. Hi Everyone, Well it's back to Barraclough work for me :-)) I only planed to have one day's break over the easter break, but I think one of my younger sisters thought, I was in danger of becoming permanently attached to my computer :-)) So she rang to say she was coming over to stay with us for a few days, the first instructions I was given when she arrived was that under no circumstances was I to get on the computer whilst she was staying :-)) Needles to say, she thinks she's the big sister and I'm the younger :-)) For those of you who have been to visit the Church of Latter Day Saints Family Search Site, there is a new URL http://www.familysearch.org/ To Maurreen Clissold, Thank You for the wonderful Barraclough listing from 1851 Census Surname Index for Leeds, whilst I had my own families entry, I did not have the others. So thank you so much for the other entries. I will enter them into the Barraclough Database. I'm sure others on the list will also have found their families in the listing as well. So a BIG Thankyou Maurreen from all of us. For those of you who have been to my Barraclough Surname Study homepages, you will have noticed that I have listed the Bradford Parish Church baptisms, marriages and burials 1818-1821 as being the film I'm transcribing at the moment. When the film came in I discovered that I have ordered the films out of sequence. The one I ordered was baptisms, marriages and burials 1822-1824 (I have finished transcribing this film now, and have ordered the one for 1818-1821) and at the same time I have ordered 1825-1828. I'm hoping that both of these 2 films will come in the the next couple of weeks. For those of you who are waiting for replies from me, I will catch up on my reply emails over the next couple of days, I have just finished reading all my Yorksgen and West Riding digest's :-)) Best Wishes Kim Pasquill Victoria-AUST Email: [email protected] ICQ Number: 30110913 Researching: Worldwide - BARRACLOUGH and variant's WRY - TAYLOR,BATEMAN,POLLARD

    3. I extracted this data from the LEEDS Surname Index to the 1851 Census this afternoon, looking for (and **finding** <VBG>) Snowden as a pup. Hope someone else finds it useful. I added a rough calculation for date of birth. Not absolutely sure of the field names (Locality, Hhold) - these are the reference numbers from the surname index, broken up so that I could sort them into households. If anyone else 'owns' my Joseph and Charlotte et al, please (please, please, PLEASE!!!!) give a holler! If anyone has knowledge of Adwalton, please let me know. I don't even know where it is. 3. To the list, greetings, and esp. Linda, Kim, and "Ballarat". Thanks for the info and help. I made a mistake in sending the details of Joseph Barrowclough christened Jan 1804 (probably to Joseph and Charlotte Holdsworth) about whom my wife knew. The above Joseph was not the father of Jonathan who emigrated to Australia as Jonathan Butterworth. The correct details should have been as follows: Joseph Barrowclough born (chr unknown as yet) in Holmfirth (census declaration), 08FEB1804, as written in family bible. There are of course many Josephs, some of which the IGI mis-spells. If others can link into him he was: married to Mary Butterworth (born 16FEB1805) in MAR1823; had JONATHAN Butterworth 26FEB1823, before they wed (kept Butterworth name); JOHN 1824,who died 1825; JAMES 07Jan1826, who nearly emigrated but died 1866 in Bradford; HANNAH 28Dec1828; WILLIAM 18Apr1830; DAVID o9Aug1833; JOSEPH who died; MARY 1837 and a JOSHUA. The details of Jonathan (really a Barraclough) were correct including Central Library Camp Street, Ballarat, which has filed away some details. He emigrated (when and how?) but wrote home to Bradford, where he had married Nanny Metcalf 1844. There were many Barracloughs in Bradford, but the census showed that his father and most siblings (except James) were still in or near Holmfirth. Jonathan went out to Mountain Creek, Moonambel, and Ballarat with one or two of his children, produced another ten or so, but saw only three grow up. Did he marry again? Thanks to Jeanne Chippett, and yes I would appreciate extra details if there are any. I can help to look up details for others, but the IGI is unreliable and Almonbury registers almost illegible, for my wife will be visiting Bradford, Huddersfield, and probably York and Wakefield to follow up info. Does anyone know how to alter the one wrong detail in genforum's barraclough page (an important detail!) without appearing too much of a pratt?...with apologies to [email protected] if they have a newsgroup there. Derek Wealleans, whose mother-in-law was the Barraclough.

    3. What a timely list. I have just bought a portable fiche reader. It cost me $20 US at Tektroniks plants used equipment store. It fits in a breifcase, has two fiche holders and lenses. The thing even comes with a car plug adaptor so you can use it away from electical supply. Amazing unit. I plan of making good use of this piece of equipment. Thanks for the list. 3. Dear Barraclough Researchers, As I wrote to Kim last week in reference to my hunt for Birstall Parish Registers, I discovered that my university library has most of the parish registers published by the Yorkshire Archaeological Society. I will be happy to do look-ups for any of you as time allows. My library doesn't catalog these separately, but Kim has kindly sent me the list from the Yorkshire Archaeological Society, which gives the volume numbers and the dates for most of the parishes that are covered. (Thanks Kim :<)) What would we all do without you?!). These are listed below. You'll see from the list that you can also order them on fiche from England (but emailing me will be cheaper!). My library has most of the volumes from 13 to 157 (more than the ones listed below, I think, so if you don't see your parish listed, just ask me and I'll check ). It may have 1-12 also (listed in their holdings but not shelved with the others; I have requested them to search for these). Mary Wisconsin Yorkshire Parish Registers. 2. Linda Barraclough
    3. Hi List and especially Derek, Have had a lovely few days away, and have come back to some rather interesting Bararcloughs Derek wrote: >Almondbury also had the birth of his son Jonathan who went to >Ballarat, who had his mother's name Butterworth (born 1month before wedding) >and kept it. >"Australian" Jonathan Butterworth (if there are decendants in Oz, >might like to note that they are really Barracloughs!) was married in >Bradford in 1844, to a Nanny Metcalfe, and he emigrated some short time >after that. This has been enough to prompt me to join another list. There is a new list in Victoria, Australia, called, from memory, AUS-VIC-GOLDFIELDS, covering the Ballarat area. My Barracloughs were in Ballarat from about 1855 to about 1872, so I really should join. I wonder if they met the Butterworths there? I shall take the opportunity to post a Butterworth query there, and see what comes back. Cheers Linda Barraclough Briagolong, Victoria, Australia Listowner: BARRACLOUGH-L e-mail: [email protected]

    3. Hi Everyone, Just wanted to let you all know to go to the following site. http://32.96.111.13/default.asp It seems that the Church of Latter Day Saint's Family Search Internet site is up an running. But they have the message that " Due to test requirements, the site may be unavailable at times or experience periods of slow responses" I have just been in there and it seems that the Barraclough entries from the IGI appear to be there, so it looks like we can all search the IGI on line now. I have not tried other surnames only the Barraclough surname. So go have a look and search all surnames in your tree's, it might be a bit slow, I think the rest of the worlds genealogists are there also searching :-)) Have fun Best Wishes Kim Pasquill Victoria-AUST Email: [email protected] ICQ Number: 30110913 Researching: Worldwide - BARRACLOUGH and variant's WRY - TAYLOR,BATEMAN,POLLARD

    3. Hi Everyone, Has anyone in the group submitted their gene information to the Family Tree Maker Users Home Page site ? Jacalyn Barraclough has discovered that one of her relations has submitted information to this site, but it appears he has only just submitted their family tree information and not created the home page as yet. So we were wondering if there any way of finding what this Richard Lee Barraclough's email address is. If anyone can help could they please reply to the list, so that both Jacalyn and I can view it.
