    1. [BARRACLOUGH-L] Anyone want an old family history
    2. Linda Barraclough
    3. Hi List, I have been a bit busy cleaning up a few rooms, and have come up with a heap of copies of an old Barraclough family history I published in the early 1980s. It is a bit dated now, but still gives a reasonable picture of how Luke Barraclough emigrated to Australia from Wibsey/Gomersal near Bradford, and met and married Susannah Hignett. After a period on the goldfields they settled on the Darling River in outback New South Wales. I cannot remember how many pages (don't have one to hand), but I know it is in excess of 64. The best thing is the photos, as I reckon all my Barracloughs have a very distinctive look to them. I am happy to pass them along to anyone that wants them for the cost of packaging and post - I think about $5 in Australia. I am a little unsure how to come up with an equivalent price for overseas. Maybe if you would like to send me a small genealogical or historical book from England for my local family history library?? Maybe any American Barracloughs might like to send a small general genealogical book. Not many here have American families :) I am happy to swap on that basis, if it suits people. My snail mail address is: Linda Barraclough C/ Post Office, Briagolong Vic Australia 3860 I also have a number of wheel charts from around the same time. I will dig them out and try and work out something similar. Cheers Linda Barraclough Briagolong, Victoria, Australia List Owner: BARRACLOUGH-L email: [email protected] http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/barraclough/

    3. Hi Everyone, Below is a new transcript from our Mary Mallison. Mary has told me that the film was rather difficult to read (We know what that's like :-( so if anyone want's her to check any entry from the film, she will have the film for another couple of days. The LDS film number is 1239232 and all surnames are spelt BARRACLOUGH except the entry for Joseph buried 21 January 1869 aged 22 his surname was spelt BARRACLOUFE You will also notice that the entries for Ann and Samuel have the surname (BREAKS) in brackets. That is because I think they were Barraclough's adopted or taken in by their Breaks aunt & uncle. Now this film was rather difficult to read in sections, therefore omitted from the burials listing are the time periods Dec 1851- Jan 1854 Aug 1855 - Sept 1856 I will try and get someone in Bradford to check between these period for any Barraclough entries, and if there are, I will forward the entries onto you all at a later date. 1. [BARRACLOUGH-L] Bap: St. Pauls Church Buttershaw 1891-1909
    2. Kim Pasquill
    3. Hi Everyone, I have decided not the post any baptism entries after 1890 to the group. The reason for this is that it is possible that some of these people could still be alive. Ok, there is probably not a great percentage that are, and I know it's not their birth info, but I would really feel rotten if I posted information (even baptism) to a public newsgroup, only to find out later they were still alive. How ever, I will send the entries from 1891 onward to anyone on the list, via personal email. I know I'm probably being over cautious in this, but don't forget folks, this is a public forum and there are unscrupulous people out there. So if anyone want's the baptism entries for St. Paul's Church Buttershaw 1891-1909, just email me. 1. [BARRACLOUGH-L] Success story for me :-))
    2. Kim Pasquill
    3. Hi Everyone, I just wanted to share some really good news I received today. Our good friend Mary Berthold did a lookup for me in the 1851 census for Leeds and found my own ggg grandfather William Barraclough. The entry showed that he employed 361 hands, and that he was a Stuff Manufacturer. His address was Gloucester Street Hunslet. Well with this info, I sent an email of to Yorksgen asking if anyone lived in the area, as I could not find Gloucester Street on my modern Leeds map. Although I do have a copy of a map that showed where my William's mill was situated in the 1850's and the street running beside the mill was Gloucester Street. Anyway I received an email from a gentleman on Yorksgen who has sent me a map which was current in the 1970's showing Gloucester Street, was still there then. The next wonderful news I received today was from the Leeds City Council Photographic Archivist, replying to my email asking his they had any photographs of Hope Mill or Gloucester Street, Hunslet. The answer I received made me ecstatic :-)) He told me that the 1849/50 Trade Directory of Leeds shows: The firm of Dickinson and Barraclough at Gloucester Street, Hunslet. With the main entry reading Jonathan Dickinson and William Barraclough, Stuff Manufacturers. So at long last we now know the name of William's company, I now only have to work out who Jonathan Dickinson was (Anyone want to claim him :-)) So Mary, a HUGE HUG, because if you had not found my William living in Gloucester Street, I would still be sitting here wondering how I was going to find out the name of his company. So you see folks, you all help me as much as I help you. And I have a saying that what goes around comes around. It sure did for me today :-)) I will send another listing of Parish Registers to you all tomorrow. Bye for now, from a very excited Kim Pasquill Victoria-AUST Email: [email protected] Barraclough Surname Study: http://users.net2000.com.au/~football/index.html ICQ Number: 30110913 Researching: Worldwide - BARRACLOUGH and variant's WRY - TAYLOR,BATEMAN,POLLARD
