    1. [BARRACLOUGH] Still more on Baracloughs
    2. L. Barraclough
    3. For Pat Tunks, Gloria Wilkinson and Kim Pasquill, Linda Barraclough for reference. As Derek Barraclough of Bradford once pointed out to me whilst correcting my impressions and records of MY Barracloughs, "The cat is amongst the pigeons". Perhaps the same applies here to some degree as I have the birth certificate of a John Charlton Barraclough born 28th July 1854 at John Court John Street Bradford West End. His father is recorded as John Barraclough, his mother Harriet Barraclough, formerly Jowett. Occupation of John the father is listed as "upholsterer". I also have sheet copies from a book "Pioneers and Priminent men of Utah" showing a photograph of John Barraclough born 28th July 1854 in Bradford England who came to Utah Oct.16th 1869 with the Joseph Lawson Company. Note, he was 15 years old and later became Deputy Clerk of the second district Beaver County for 25 years. He married Mary Josephine Fish Oct.9th 1879. He is listed in the book as the son of John and Harriet Barraclough. No proof, but I believe that the John who came to USA is the grandson of Maria, the first item in my message today (Mar.15th) to Kim, titled "Bradford PC lookup request" My father told me, an impressed young man about 70 years ago (yes, I am an old man) about a relative who met some Mormon Missionaries and went to the USA with them when he was 15years old to the great concern of the family. Also, details of Harriet are far from clear. It seems there is more than one Harriet Jowett married into the Barraclough name. From the 1851 census of Bradford:- 1. Harriet Jowett born 1827 worked as a servant for a 64 year old John Barraclough whose wife was Joanne, formerly Bottomley. Joanne died and I saw somewhere that he married Harriett. Harriet's parents were Jonathon and Martha Jowett. 2. Harriet Jowett born 1833 living in Carr Lane. Mother Sally, no husband listed so I presume she was a widow. Harriet was the youngest child. Harriet Jowett was purported to have married in 1852 but upon having a search done by the Bradford records office, they can find no such marriage records in the area from 1850 to 1856 of a Harriet Jowett to a John Barraclough. Sorry to be so negative to your assumptions and request via Kim and Linda but these are my records and I too am interested in obtaining the true facts. IGI, unfortunately does not always present the facts as they really are If anyone has further information on the people listed here, or identifies with them, then please let me know. We all have to tie in somewhere. My best wishes and luck in searching to all. Leslie Barraclough.

    3. Hi Mycal, Welcome to our group, first of all it would help us, if we knew what country your parents were marriaged and born in ? do you have a copy of their marriage certificate ? and or their birth certificates ?. Don't send personal information via the group on anyone who is still living, that is a policy I always recommend to others and apply it my self. So in other words don't send birth dates of anyone who is still living via the net, this is to protect their privacy. I will try and guide you through the process of tracing your family tree, but I am no expert, and will sometimes have to get you to ask question's to the group for answers if I don't know the answer. We are all a VERY helpful bunch and will help is anyway we can. I will email you off list, and guide you though the process of researching your ancestry. -- Best Wishes Kim Pasquill Victoria-AUST Email: [email protected] Barraclough Surname Study: http://users.net2000.com.au/~football/index.html ICQ Number: 30110913 Researching: Worldwide - BARRACLOUGH and variant's WRY - TAYLOR-Lightcliffe BATEMAN-Wibsey,Wike POLLARD-Wibsey Mycal Barrowclough wrote: > Hi to all. 3. To all the list members, This is what the Barraclough group is about, ask the question's and tell us about your Barraclough's you never know some of us just have have some info on YOUR Barraclough's. It's funny Leslie, I have downloaded the same photo and history, of John B but have not had time to check out his origins as yet, I am sure that with Pat, you and myself on their trail we will get to the bottom of their ancestry. Thanks Leslie, I am sure Pat also thanks you, and thanks to Gloria, for sending Pat our way, at least she will know what John looked like now. 3. Hi Emma, Great to hear from you again. Thank you so much for your offer, but as you can see Leslie has answered my question's for me. But I still might take you up on your offer,at some time in the future, for the associated surnames of my Barraclough's, but please only do the checking when you are down at the Central Library doing your own research, don't make any special trips on my account. I am very patient and can always wait for the answers. Once again, your offer of help is greatly appreciated. -- Best Wishes Kim Pasquill Victoria-AUST Email: [email protected] Barraclough Surname Study: http://users.net2000.com.au/~football/index.html ICQ Number: 30110913 Researching: Worldwide - BARRACLOUGH and variant's WRY - TAYLOR-Lightcliffe BATEMAN-Wibsey,Wike POLLARD-Wibsey "ej.brown" wrote: > Hi Kim, > > As you can see, I'm finally back in the world of family history and am trying to force myself to do some work ! 3. Dear Leslie, Thank you so much, I am trying to work out if another of the baptisms where for a child born to a James in Bolton, so your listing is a great help. Leslie, did you send though to the group of baptism's, marriage's and buriels for Bradford PC for the years 1810- 1813, short of checking the archives, I can not seem to find your copy if you did, and if you did then I don't seem to have entered them into the database. Thanks once again Leslie, your help is very much appreciated, just to let you all know that I will be back transcribing next week at my LDS but have not made my mind up which film I will order first, so many to choose from :-)) -- Best Wishes Kim Pasquill Victoria-AUST Email: [email protected] Barraclough Surname Study: http://users.net2000.com.au/~football/index.html ICQ Number: 30110913 Researching: Worldwide - BARRACLOUGH and variant's WRY - TAYLOR-Lightcliffe BATEMAN-Wibsey,Wike POLLARD-Wibsey "L. 3. Dear Frederick, Linda has kindly informed me that you have subscribed to our group. A most warm WELCOME. Linda gave me a copy of your letter, that you sent to her back in 1983 and noticed that you are researching the line of Luke Barraclough who married Sarah Heape. I have the names and address of 2 other ladies who are also researching the same line and are descendant's of Luke and Sarah, also I have the email address of a lady who is on the net and is also researching the line of Luke and Sarah. Frederick, could you please contact me either through the group on privatly so that I can give you the names and address's, plus if you can give me all the info, you have on your direct line. I have grouped all the descendant's of Luke and Sarah into a family grouping and want to see if it matches what you have. 1. [BARRACLOUGH] Halifax Baptisms 1556-1580
    2. Mary L. Berthold
    3. Baptisms from Halifax Parish Registers 1556-1580. >From Parish Registers of Halifax, Vol. I: Baptisms, 1538 to 1593. Transcribed [from original parish registers] and indexed by E.W. Crossley. Yorkshire Parish Register society, 1910 (Yorkshire Archaeological Society Publication 37). Names: Spelled as given. A number of common names have symbols I can't reproduce to indicate contractions. Thus Johis or Johes = Johanis or Johanes = John; Thoms = Thomas; Willi or Willm= William. fili = filius = son; filia = daughter; fil. = either. I've changed Roman numerals to Arabic numerals, given names of months in English rather than Latin, and changed "de" to "of." Names were listed in groups under year, then month, then day; I give the month and day after each name. Page numbers are from the transcript, not the register. Places: Spelled as they appear. The townships were Barkisland, Elland, Fixby, Greetland, Norland, Rastrick, Rishworth, Soyland, and Stainland (all attached to chapel of Elland); Erringdon, Heptonstall, Langfield, Stansfield, and Wadsworth (all attached to chapel of Heptonstall); and Southowram, Hipperholme, Midgley, Northoram, Ovenden, Shelf, Skircoat, Southoram, Sowerby, and Warley (attached to parish church Halifax, although baptisms from other townships, especially Elland, Norland, and Soyland also took place there). If anyone finds an ancestor and wants a photocopy of the page, please let me know your address, and I'll send it. >From 25 Sept 1556 to 28 July 1558 godparents' names were listed, so I've included entries in which Barracloughs were godparents. 1556 Johenes fili Laurencii Wood of Hipom, 28 September Johne Barrowclouge, Willo Wood & Anne Lea, copat [godparents] [p. 95] Gracia filia Richardi Stockes of Hipom, 7 December Willm Barrowcloughe, Gra Wodhed & Margareta Smyth, c.
